Life Inside little Asmara in Uganda, an Eritrean 🇪🇷 city away from EritreaAdded:
Nice to meet you.
>> Nice meeting you. What's your name?
>> Anna.
>> Anna.
>> Yeah.
>> Are you from Itria?
>> Yes, I'm from India.
>> Yeah, there are a lot of young people there.
>> Yes, bro. How are you? You're good.
Nice. Nice. Border borders are the main means of transport. And theans have also really adopted the border borders. They also closes for ladies here.
>> Wow. It's beautiful. One thing you like about Uganda, it >> is free.
>> It's free.
>> Yes. But these Irian girls are just so beautiful. So when you need to meet another person, however different they are from you, just embrace them. We all need some love at some point, you know.
>> Yes, sir. How are you doing? Not video times. How are you doing? You're good.
Yes, sir. Introduce yourself. My name is Far. Guys, welcome back to OJ Story. And today we have a new video in the Iritian community, you know. So guys, make sure you watch this video to the end. Tim is right behind me. Yes. Greet these people.
>> Yo, it's your boy Tim. You already know.
You know what time it is. It's vlogging time.
>> Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
>> I'm here with my boy Tim and you're trying to get some chicken.
Then I think it's his supper today.
Yeah, >> you suffer.
>> Tim eats like rich people.
>> Why you doing? I don't know.
>> No more personal.
>> So this is your place you always come to to do your shopping for chicken.
>> Me I like the wings, you know. The wings are really nice.
>> They have a lot of meat in them. So I recommend next time get the wings, you know.
>> Really?
>> Yeah. has a lot of meat while you know ask the guy even mama is ready you know sir okay time to go fruits >> hello right now we are in Bonga and we're checking out the lifestyle here in the Iritrian community this is little Asara you know the out of it you know this is the capital city here you know so if you want to have a taste of asara this is it. We're having a nice ride with our guy here. Yeah. He's going to tell us some of his observations of, you know, they're our brothers. Yeah. Because these guys are always interacting with the rich ones as they transport them from one place to the other, you know, and because you know borders are the main means of transport in Uganda and Kala as a whole because it is fast uh and of course it accesses any place you know so that's this is the right guy for us to talk to today. But apart from that, we're going to interact with the number of Iritians also. But as you can see, most of these buildings here are owned by Iritrians and the businesses on this road here are mostly owned by Iritrians. So it is a good thing even if some people may see it as negative, but it's because maybe of being uh lack of knowledge, but it's a lot of advancement having these folks here. If you can hear what other people are saying, they're saying this place has developed so much so fast ever since Nishian started living here. So apparently it's positivity only and for us we are here for positive vibes.
So this is fresh peak for you guys and it's always beautiful being here you know and today I've decided to sit inside fresh outside is good but inside is also really nice. The cushions are really really comfortable for me. I like comfort. I'm one of those cozy guys, you know. This is the inside. And it looks really, really beautiful. There's the shawama. And it's funny. I've not had shama. For those who don't know about shama, shama is literally uh shama is lally chicken piled, you know. So, it has no kind of bone or anything. And it's really, really nice. But I've not had their shawama. Hope I I get next time I come, I'm going to have the guy the mix. I want him to taste it. So next time he comes and has some tell me how it tastes. Tim is waiting for his parents. He has to go home right now. He's late for home. But [laughter] I have to wait.
>> Oh my god. You see the ladies who work there? They look really good. They have their uniform in green.
Nice. Both Ugandans and Europeans work here, so they're providing for jobs.
>> How how do you find the the juice?
>> This is very okay.
>> It's very okay.
>> Yeah, it's very okay.
>> Wow. Would you come back to take this juice?
>> Yeah, I will come back.
>> Okay, that's very nice.
>> Yeah.
>> Have you had have you ever had juice that is better than this?
>> I think by myself.
[laughter] >> I can do myself.
>> You can do better than this?
>> Yeah, I can do it.
>> If you make by yourself? Yeah, if I make my salad, >> I have now to take his juice. One time he has to make for me juice that I taste because I've never tasted juice better than this. So if he says this juice is better, I need to taste his juice. And guys, it's the best juice you can ever have. I keep on telling you guys, come here, taste. And if you ever take this juice, make sure you comment the comment section and tell me you came here. You know I'm going to talk to these guys so that whoever comes here and is from story has a discount guys. I'm putting these guys on. What I've been told by my guy here is that he has heard from thean community all his friends are that the owner of this business started with was itund $300 or 300,000 shillings?
300,000 shillings.
$300 which is apparently almost 1 something million Uganda ceilings you know can you imagine and right now he has made it a franchise there are so many fresh big franches in Kapala right now and guys this is so inspirational so I I really like this I like when people think this way so it's inspiring I hope it inspires someone also outside there to think like this when they starting a business you know So uh we're just from having our juice from the fresh pink place and it's been nice and right now there are so many rituals and this Ugandan I think Ugandans always come here like during the day so it's quite a thing. This is u soya and soya is one of the places with a high number of you know right here people having coffee having coffee and of course some of the people We're just having a walk, chilling in the evening. What's up, bro?
You good? For us, we're here just to interact with the folks and get to learn about them and you know, get show some love, you know. So, bro, I mean, that is life. We have to show love to everyone.
So, as you can see, there are so many guys. Some of them are just, you know, definitely chilling. They came out to be with friends and family, take some juice. Some of those are taking coffee.
Can also call it bua. Hello, can it? And some of these guys are here selling their stuff.
You're good.
Our guys here is always on their case and they're chasing them away. But yeah, the hustle is real. Some sell shoes, some sell phone accessories, stuff like that. But no, they're trying to clean the city and they they they're dealing with them in a certain way. But it's it's a hot and sweet cuz one side you want the city to be to develop, the other side people need to survive. Now this guy came with this car and they are selling mangoes here and mangoes are good for people to buy in order to make juice and stuff like that. but also just for normal consumption. And here they have these are really nice Crocs, bro.
Is this where you you make your you buy from your Crocs? Cuz I see you're wearing Crocs, bro.
This guy is wearing his Crocs, you know.
Personally, I don't usually wear Crocs.
I don't even own Crocs, bro. Can you imagine? You know, but this guy, it's his favorite thing. And there are so many there and they look good.
>> Yeah, Crocs are nice. Yeah, they have like the ladies shoes. You know, one thing I've learned is that people women buy a lot of things and most people who are selling clothes or shoes, they are selling women clothes, you know. So these guys last time he got them and they were chasing them. How are you doing?
>> Last time I came here and they were chasing you. You're fine today.
>> That's good. This guy has very nice pants. Today he's in business. They're not chasing him around.
So it's a it's quite a thing. A lot of a lot of young people are outside right now and there are things that most young people get out at this time. Know some people are trying to get girlfriends stuff like that and this is the time to to catch up. During the day people are working and the ladies most of them are just indoors because it's hot but also during the day people don't want to walk around because of the temperatures you know.
So most come out to also do shopping, you know, cuz it's that time, you know, to buy stuff. These are our Sudanese brothers. This, bro, what's up? What's up? You good?
>> What's up, bro?
>> You good?
>> Yes. Yes. Nice. How are you doing? You good?
>> Yeah. This is your brand, >> bro. Which brand is this? What's the name?
>> It's called Echos, bro.
>> Echos?
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, >> bro. You need you need to you need to link me up, man. I need to get one of them shirts.
>> I got you, bro.
>> You got me?
>> When do I get one?
>> Don't worry. as soon as possible.
>> As soon as possible.
>> This is the CEO of Echos.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, this is a new brand.
>> I just started recently.
>> Okay.
>> But place your orders.
>> Yes, sir.
>> Going to get them.
>> So, for how long have you been in Eugene?
>> Um, for the past 5 years.
>> For the past 5 years.
>> Yeah.
>> Wow. How are you finding it around here?
>> N. It's cool. It's cool.
>> It's cool.
>> You're getting some stories, bro. You know what I'm saying? All right, man.
Wish you all the best, man. Peace.
Peace. Peace. Peace.
>> [laughter] >> All right, my that's that's um our brother, Sudan's brother. He has a clothing brand and he's doing looks like he's doing well. I like it. And I need to get one of them shots. So, as you can see, there's so much shopping going on.
You good? That guy is not happy at all, man. What's wrong? Got to be happy, man.
As you can see, so many of these guys are out here doing shopping on the streets. I think it's a thing around here to buy stuff from the streets, you know. It's quite a thing. Most people buy things from the streets because they are more affordable and that's quite a thing. Hello.
>> Hello.
>> How are you?
>> You're looking really beautiful.
>> Thank you.
>> Come on. You don't want to be on my camera. Just say hi to my people.
>> Hi.
>> Yeah. What's your name?
>> Anna.
>> Anna.
>> Are you from Itria?
>> Yes, I'm from Itria.
>> Oh, that's really nice.
>> Thank you.
>> So, you stay around here? Yeah. Thank you.
>> Okay. Welcome. So, that was a very nice sister, but she's shy. She can't show her face. Though, she's she's really beautiful and I like Yeah, it was nice.
Yes, it was. She was shy to show her face. The coffee is called Buuna. Should have some coffee here probably. You know, coffee is really nice. The last time I had coffee, it was really crazy.
I had four cups and I couldn't recover from it because I couldn't sleep. I had to sleep the next day. That was crazy.
>> Up here is of course businesses, clothing businesses for ladies and for for men and of course more of traditional clothes, you know, for the community. So that shows you how much they support their businesses, you know.
So yeah, it's a great thing.
There are shoes here. There some shoes here for ladies and mama is here buying a big for herself or for the children.
Mama, how are you? They're fine. So yeah, they say you and selling to them.
>> It's nice. It's nice. Hello.
Yes, bro. How are you? You're good.
Yeah. Nice. Nice.
So, it's a beautiful thing that Ugandans are able to integrate with with our brethren here. You know what more can you ask for as a person who goes to another country than living in a place where people are peaceful, they are welcoming, hospitable and loving, you know, and that's the thing about people when they come to a country like me. How are you doing?
>> You're good.
>> Nice. Nice. That's the thing about Uganda. It gives people that kind of, you know, peaceful vibe and you're able to [music] integrate and feel good at your home. other than other places where I go to and I don't feel good you know I think that is something that people can learn from Ugandans honestly that's a a trait that the rest of Africa should learn from even South Africans should learn this instead of you know going around and beating up uh people who have come to your country because it's not a good thing that Hi are you good hey how are you guys you good are here buying some Hello.
>> How are you guys?
[laughter] >> I found you again.
>> First meet me well. Nice meeting you.
>> Nice to meet you.
>> Nice meeting you. So, since I didn't want you to to be on my channel no >> Oh my god.
>> What is the name of your channel?
>> OJ Story.
>> Huh?
>> OJ Story.
>> OJ Story.
>> You want to check it out? Let me show you on your phone.
>> Ah, but I don't have now data.
>> You don't have data?
>> Yes.
>> Oh my god. Yeah, I will take it.
>> Okay, cool. Don't forget, I can write for you somewhere.
>> Okay.
>> Your sister has data.
>> Yeah, I have.
>> Okay, nice. Let me show you.
>> Sister, how old is your baby?
>> Yes. One >> and two months. One year.
>> One year. Two months.
>> Oh, the two teeth are out. The cute teeth.
>> Baby boy, baby girl.
>> Yep.
>> Oh, nice. That's really nice.
Okay, this is the channel.
>> Thank you so much. Yeah, but watch the videos and you you watch her also on my channel.
>> But you guys are really nice. You're really beautiful. So, >> one one love. One love.
>> Thank you.
>> Okay. Have a good night.
>> Good night. Thank you.
>> Okay. Bye. As you can see behind me, it's business. You know, business is big here. You know, border borders are the main means of transport and the Ericians have also really adopted the border borders. So bye.
As I told you guys, border border is the main means of transport. And what more can you do when you get to Uganda? Hop on a border border. That's the way to go, you know. So yeah, this is Look at this beautiful ladies. Look at that.
Look at that. They buying clothes here.
There also clothes for ladies here. Wow, it's beautiful. So behind us there that is Nomad Bar which is also co owned by an Iritian. So itans have had a lot of investment here and you see there's jewelry they are selling here. There's shoes they selling here. So it's business as usual. Shoes here and clothes is also here. Scarves. [music] So there's a lot of business being supported here by the community and also they are selling maze here you know.
>> So isn't this amazing guys?
Isn't this amazing?
>> Hello, mama. How are you? Baby is sleeping. So, yeah, she's carrying a baby the local way. Even in Uganda, I think it's an African thing to carry babies on the back. It is really beautiful. It's beautiful that that's how things are here. Oh, listen. Look at this game here, >> bro. What's going on, bro?
>> Take your money, guys. I do not recommend anyone to play that game, guys. That is how your money is taken.
So, if you're out there and you meet those people on the streets, please do not do not engage in that game. It's not the best game to play. Gambling is not what I advise anyone to do. You know, make your money clean. As you can see, there's so much businesses here. All this is itrian owned businesses. [music] You know, they some are taking beer and of course that is a saloon [music] and those are clothes. You know, if you want to experience the vibes of of maybe you want to visit itria, Ethiopia, and you want to kind of experience the culture before you go there, I think this is the place to get first firstand experience of this, you know.
>> This guy wants to say something. Hey, what's up? What's up?
>> Hey, where?
>> Hi guys, I'm from Baza.
>> From Baza?
>> Yeah, man.
>> Okay. How do you find Baza?
>> Baza is fine. Nothing else.
>> How do you find the Irian people? Are they Tell me about them. No, there are too much there. There are a lot of young people there.
>> So much.
>> And do you what is your what has your experience been with them?
>> No, no, nothing.
>> They are good people.
>> Yeah, they're fine. No problem.
>> Do you have friends who are >> too much?
>> Okay.
>> Most of them they're my neighbors.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. That's very good, man. Keep the one love, man.
>> One Africa, bro.
>> All right, man. Peace, man. Peace.
That's what's up. That guy literally came up and asked to be on camera and I had to put him on because yeah, we have to get people's views on what they think about the community and you know get to learn about the rich side but also the locals what do they think. Hello.
That guy may be South Sudan but he looks like he's born here you know but that's his perspective and it's positive. So as you can see these guys are also trying to get a border border and as I said it is the main means of transport for your own for your own information. You good?
Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Nice. Nice. Are you going to take some boon at night?
>> Yeah. Bona.
>> Where do you take from, bro?
>> These guys these guys are not feeling it. But yeah, that's s when we you win some, you lose some. So guys, there's so much beauty here, you know. Have you guys realized how much beautiful these ladies are? These Irian girls are just so beautiful. And I'm just here to appreciate. Nothing, just appreciation, you know. Hey yo, hey, what's up?
>> What's up?
>> You good?
>> Yeah. Give me give me give me give me give me. You're good. So guys down there are playing pool. having a good time.
That's where guys hang out from, you know. This is what we talking about.
Freedom. When you go to another country, there must be this kind of freedom. You know, freedom to express yourself, freedom to, you know, do business, freedom to love, freedom to do whatever you can do even when you're back home.

That's good, bro. You good? You good? You good? Yeah. Positive vibes, man. These guys are now the locals of this place. They're not foreigners anymore, you know? That's how it should be. Don't feel like a local when you go even away from home. You become the locals. These guys have been here for a minute. So, yeah. This is home, man.
This is home to them. This is little Asara away from Richia you know home away from home. Apart from fresh pig this is daily juice and most of the rich come here to have some juice you know.
