A study published in the International Journal of Obesity found that people judge GLP-1 users (Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound, Mounjaro) more harshly than those who never attempted to lose weight, with GLP-1 users scoring lower on personality traits, perceived health, and willingness to socialize; this stigma stems from the 'easy way out' belief that medication is cheating, despite obesity being a chronic disease requiring medical treatment similar to how people take lisinopril for high blood pressure or statins for high cholesterol.

Are people judging you for using Ozempic? YES!Hinzugefügt:
A new study just confirmed what you already knew. People judge you for taking a GLP-1 more than they did when you were heavier. A study in the International Journal of Obesity ran two pre-registered experiments. Here's what they found. Participants read about a fictional person in one of four scenarios. Someone who lost weight on a GLP-1, someone who lost the weight by diet and exercise, someone who didn't lose any weight, and then someone who lost the weight on a GLP-1 but then regained it. Then they rated that person on personality, health, and how willing they'd be to spend time with them. The GLP-1 user scored worse than the person who didn't lose any weight at all. Lower on positive traits, higher on negative traits, rated as less healthy, and on a seven-point scale of willingness to socialize, the GLP-1 user landed at 4.99. [music] The person who never even tried to lose weight scored 5.25. The dieter scored 5.51. The drug user lost, the person who didn't try ranked higher. The proposed mechanism is the easy way out belief.
Strangers think GLP-1s are cheating. So, when you find out they took one, they downgrade you. And the stigma doesn't end when you stop. The regain group caught extra judgment, too. There's no clean exit from the cycle. Now, listen to me carefully. What you are taking is not a cheat code. Obesity is a chronic disease driven by hormonal, genetic, and environmental factors that diet and willpower do not control on their own.
Now, I know you already know it, but it's worth going over. Wegovy, Zepbound, Mounjaro, Found These are tools, great tools, and backed by the largest cardiovascular outcome trials in obesity medicine [music] history. The people judging you have not read those trials.
They're running on cultural intuition that was outdated five years ago. If you're on a GLP-1, you are not taking the easy way [music] out. You are taking the medical way out. The same way someone with high blood pressure takes lisinopril or someone with high cholesterol may take a statin. Nobody calls those people lazy. The science is on your side. The [music] judgement is not. Hold your ground. If you want a doctor in your corner who knows the science and won't shame you for using it, hit subscribe.
