The Australian government has sued 3M for $2 billion over PFAS contamination from firefighting foam used at military bases, which has spread into soil, water, and community water supplies, demonstrating how industrial chemicals can cause widespread environmental damage requiring significant remediation costs.

Government's $2bn lawsuit against PFAS manufacturer追加:
I know two billion dollars isn't an enormous sum of money. I don't think it's going to get close to cleaning up this problem though.
>> This is the largest legal claim ever brought by the Australian government.
Why is the government suing 3M?
>> For the damage caused by the use of a P foss. It's a particular type of P foss chemical and it was used as a foaming agent for fire fighting associated with military bases. They did lots and lots of training with this foam and there's stories of you know Christmas time mountains of foam and kids playing with it. But that use in the training has built up in the soil at military bases around Australia and the Commonwealth is talking specifically about 28 of them and it's still in the soil. It's in the water. It's not just the Department of Defense land and water. It's it's it's it's out there in the environment, in the community and it's spread well beyond the bases and and then moves into the local waterways and sometimes into the water supply and it will be way more than two billion dollars to address that in my opinion.
