Prioritizing financial freedom and debt elimination over material possessions like luxury sneakers leads to greater long-term satisfaction and security, as demonstrated by choosing to pay off a car 18 months early rather than purchasing 14 pairs of expensive Jordan 4s.

How many Jordan 4 Brick after Brick pairs did I PASS on? $5,500+ ON WHAT instead?!Added:
Maybe I should have purchased 14 pairs of Jordan for brick after bricks on StockX. Maybe I should have had them stacked up. That would have made for an insane thumbnail, right? That would have no doubt gotten clicks and views. in some of you would actually think that was the smarter thing for me personally to do instead of what I did with over $5,500 yesterday on May 22nd because I know the the the release everyone is talking about it is the Nigel Sylvester and Air Jordan 4: Brick After Brick, the continuation of Brick by Brick.
Applause to him truly. Now, is this shoe for me? It's not. And we can get into a little bit of that. uh it's not for me and it it hasn't been. But I know that that is already the shoe that people are saying is their sneaker of the year. And thank goodness that list is subjective.
So I don't have to feel any kind of way about how you may feel about that shoe.
But nonetheless, it was it was an expensive day. Nonetheless, it was an expensive day. I'm not saying May wasn't already expensive because yeah, dental work isn't cheap, especially when it's unexpected.
Now, did I have it to pay? Absolutely blessed and fortunate position to be able to do that and I'm beyond grateful for that. Now, this is what I often talk about. If you have something that comes up far beyond these shoe releases, can you handle it? Are you in a position to still put the food on the table, put the gas in the car, do the things you need to do? maybe the things you would like to do, but it's fine if you can't. But certainly the need is taking care of your body and not needing to go into a single ounce of credit card debt to be able to do that. Now, the smart thing is to go ahead and put that charge on a credit card and then let those points build up or whatever rewards you may have and then you pay that balance off in full when that statement comes and you take advantage of those rewards.
That is a smart way to do it. That is absolutely what I did. It was already like a couple grand in the hole.
Actually, more than that.
emotional damage.
>> Yeah, cuz sometimes it doesn't really matter. Okay, just fun fact as an adult, right? Like even when insurance could be involved and is involved for things, right? Especially when it comes to your body. Do you ever think like what is the point of it because what is it assisting with? Okay, I can't be the only one. I know I'm not the only one. Back to the video.
I did it again and I had been sharing online that listen, like summer was going to be an expensive one for me. I didn't factor in that I would have to make emergency uh uh uh dental visits. I didn't know that that was going to be a thing. But paying off my car 18 months early, that was a thing. Once it was presented to me, essentially once I, you know, I took a look at my situation and I'm like, okay, if I have the opportunity to do this, do I?
And that is certainly living beyond the moment of now. And sometimes I think at least and you guys can share below. I think it's smart to act as responsible and accountable as you as you possibly can before the part of you that just wants to have fun and live in the now before they start to take over any decision making they can possibly get their hands on. Because that's natural for you to want to do that. That's not bad at all.
like for you to think, man, like, okay, so do I grant myself freedom from this car loan 18 months early, or instead, do I just spend it on things that that I want to be able to spend it on and enjoy? Because I absolutely could have taken that money and been courtside at some games I would love to see in person. Love to see.
I would I am at that point where there are so many other things that I would love to spend a thousand plus dollars on. It's it's not a shoe, right? It's never going to be a sneaker. It's just never going to be that. Especially the point at which I'm at right now. Never ever ever going to be a sneaker. But this does go back to remember with the whole student loans, right? Paying off $22,000 worth of those in a short amount of time. It goes back to being able and then willing because I was able and a position. Now, I'm not going to say in a position to easily have secured the Jordan for brick after brick because let's be real, it's not that easy to get some shoes. Get a lot of them. Yes. Does that anger people now in 2026? It does.
Please check in with the lady and just go sit on the couch and have a discussion about why it is bothersome if shoes are available. And then you can follow that up why it's bothersome that people even if maybe in the past they would have gone for something they no longer want to go for it or even if maybe they thought they didn't want to go for it and then they decide they do people are allowed to change their mind.
Okay, they are. And there is no regret for somebody who understood there was no part of this actual shoe that enticed them. We can go ahead and get into that because I know people are upset when it comes to why why does everyone say that it looks like the the the Air Jordan 4 Fire Red because there are elements of the Fire Red 4 that this shoe absolutely looks like.
Maybe not the shade of red, right? Maybe not the shade of black because this doesn't look like a stark really dark dark dark black on the actual brick after brick, but I would actually say it looks like a mashup between Fire Red 4 and the Red Cement.
Fire Red 4, Red Cement 4. Guess what?
I'm not a fan of either. I've never been a fan of the Fire Red 4. I don't care who doesn't like that. I've never been a fan of the Fire Red 4. I was a fan of the Red Cement 4. So, do we now see why this would have never been appealing to me? And when it dropped, my first thought was looks very much so like what we've already seen. And as somebody who has also fought against redundancy later on in their sneaker journey, um I totally respect people saying, "Well, if I already have the Fire Red 4, why am I getting this?" Or they've said if they secure this, there is no need for them to go for the Fire Red 4. And that shouldn't anger anyone because people are then going to the semantics. Whoa.
The full wing is red and it's not black in any way. Okay, that's where the red cement, you know, that's where again the mashup comes in. Now, the sock liner is different and it's white and good luck with keeping that clean. Uh so liner is different and it's white, but it's very much so similar to things that we've seen. So, I believe this is the story and the hype selling the shoe far more than the shoe selling itself because y'all have bitched and complained I don't know how long about sale and an age look being on shoes. The age look doesn't bother you anymore, though, does it? You're perfectly fine with that shoe being aged, huh? It's crazy how hype changes things, doesn't it? But if you wanted the shoe, I really and truly do hope you either hit on sneakers, EQL raffle, a little bit weird that they waited so late into the day after sneakers dropped to let you know if you hit or not. I don't quite get that.
That's a little weird to me. But again, it's not affecting me. Thank god it's not really affecting me. But I had the opportunity to free myself from this car note early. It's the third time I've been able to do this. Why the third time? Well, with the first one, because I've stayed within the same vehicle or family of vehicles, last two models have been the same, just newer years, right?
First Mercedes, someone not paying attention, rear ended me, totaled my car a week before I paid it off. Total my car. Uh second one, paid it off early.
That was gifted to mom. end of 2022. So, that was her Christmas gift. And then my newer used Mercedes uh was my gift to myself in 2022 for my birthday because I refuse to ever pay for the depreciation of a brand new car off the lot. I'm never doing that. I promise you there are plenty of reliable reliable vehicles in which you don't eat the depreciation.
You can actually still get them for a good price. You just don't need to have the newest year. Oh, and they get you from where you need to go. And the only issues I've ever had are just things that mechanically can happen. But if I keep up the regular maintenance, my vehicles have served me well. And this one I am running into the ground because I don't need to go ahead and gift mom one so she has a second car. She's good.
She's solid on that front. So now this is for me to enjoy being what? Debtree.
Not a single ounce of debt to my name.
Now thanks to this ass backwards uh system that we have in this country. Is that going to hurt me in the short term?
It is because I have now removed something from the mix of credit. So that means that my score will temporarily go down. The exact same thing happened with my student loans, right? I removed the oldest credit that was on my or open credit that was on uh my report and so my score went down and then it bounced right back up. And so I'm going to experience this because I'm removing something from the mix. So it will go down, it'll go back up. I'll probably end up just getting a another credit card to just assist with that also. Uh but you know why that's possible? Also, you know, one way that's possible, uh, being responsible and you not carrying a balance on any of those cards, but you also add another card, so that increases your total limit, but you keep your spending the same, so your usage actually goes down, which is pretty good for you. Credit is such a mind game in this country, and I hate it. I don't love it. Now, I don't ever have to worry about trying to apply for a home mortgage because I don't want a home. And we're not going to get into why I am not the one that's ever been gung-ho about home ownership, but not something I'm interested in. That is something that a lot of you are interested in, which means you have to stay on top of your credit. And if you get an opportunity to free yourself from the burden of a car note, and it makes sense again for your situation currently, I would absolutely encourage you to do that because no matter what I may deal with now or face or adversity, whatever, that's off my plate. That vehicle is mine, belongs to me. I just got to keep up the maintenance, registration, gas, and thankfully, yes, I do have to pay for premium gas, but I don't really drive a whole lot now, do I? Haven't had to since 2020 since we all went home, and that's essentially where I ended up doing, you know, just in terms of work from home. So, knowing that there isn't a lot of wear and tear that's put on my vehicle, that certainly does help with the longevity of it. So, there are a lot of things that are factored in, but more importantly, you know, I just always want to drive home the message of just remember just because you don't see someone doing something, it doesn't mean that they can't. That's that's what a lot of sneaker YouTube the viewers, not necessarily the creators, the a lot of viewers would love for you to think that, oh, well, I don't see you going out and buying this release and that release and this release, which would be stupid of me since I don't like a lot of these releases, but I don't see you buying this and this and this. It must mean that you can't. It must mean that I don't care to validate whatever insecurities you have by me not wanting a shoe that I don't want.
Could I get the shoe for the views?
Sure. You don't get to control those views, though. So, if the views don't hit and you've paid for a shoe, you're in the red there.
So, why would I do that to myself? That that's not smart. Trying to make smart decisions here, smart choices. Some of you have already made those because you've taken the time to step back. You don't have to do it just because I've done it. But you've taken the time to step back. Me sharing my journey. You're like, you know what? I could take better charge of my finances, too. I have tons of shoes already. I can enjoy the ones I have. Matter of fact, sell some that I don't wear, which could pay for some that I'm really excited that are coming out. And at the same time, maybe I build my savings. Maybe I start investing.
I I I open a high yield savings account.
I pay down some of my high interest debt. I put myself in a better position while still respecting the culture, loving it, the history, the innovation that's coming out, understanding that change is inevitable and we're all a part of it. Some of you are doing that and I appreciate you more than you know when you actually share that with me here on the channel. Like I really and truly do. So I listen, someone may have a comment, I don't understand why you made this video if you didn't actually buy the 14 pair. I didn't. I could have and that just would have been a stupid waste of money for me. But granting myself this freedom, oh my. Like listen, no sneaker could equal the feeling of owing absolutely positively no one.
No shoe is going to do that for me. I don't care. No shoe is going to do that for me. It's not. And you know, I I was actually shocked by the the response on Instagram. like people went up for that post and me sharing uh sharing this milestone for myself and I really do like in any and every way um appreciate it whether listen it's Jack it's it's Monica McNut like doesn't matter I am so beyond grateful um just to have that encouragement because these are the things that should be celebrated I think as much as we're celebrating oh my god I doubled up on a Jordan for brick after brick oh my god I have the brick by brick and the brick after brick that's just me personally is that what the focuses of sneaker YouTube. It's not.
And I get that. I am the black sheep in this space and that's cool. There are some things that I'm just kind of thinking about because clearly like content is different because I don't buy a whole lot now. I still have tons of thoughts though, right? I told you human behavior is very interesting to me. It's more interesting now than a lot of these shoes coming out, which is probably because a lot of these shoes aren't that new. If we're talking about Jordan Brain, human behavior is just is really exciting and it's interesting in terms of this space. it is based on the focus in this space. And so I may dabble with sharing my thoughts on like a compilation of different things that have occurred or transpired maybe throughout the week and then putting those into like a single video and giving you my thoughts on that. So we'll see because it might actually help with some time constraints and I have to travel a lot um in the near future. And so in tackling those real life things, it may help with the content a little bit. And then trying to do some fits like I actually need to go to my niece's graduation right now. Still trying to figure out the fit. I definitely got scissor happy again and I cut some baggy pants into some shorts.
So, we're going with shorts probably and maybe a flannel or blazer or sweater. I haven't quite figured that part out yet.
But the important thing is I can roll around with absolutely no car notes. So, I appreciate you guys tuning in to this video. I really and truly do if you hit okay. I damn sure hope it didn't cost you, you know, $5,000 plus dollars. But also, you know, if you're not doing the whole resell thing, I respect that, too, because you guys already know how I feel about resell. That's something I'm not doing anymore ever again. But again, I appreciate you guys tuning into this video. It feels amazing. Hopefully, it does inspire you to, you know, you can do the you can do the responsible thing.
You can do the delay gratification thing in terms of I could get so many other shoes down the road if I wanted to.
Gifting this to myself right now just feels really special. So, with all that being said, and it is a holiday weekend, so please stay safe, enjoy your family and friends. As always, act your age, not your shoe size. Peace.
