This video masterfully demonstrates that profound care lies not in complex interventions, but in the quiet art of presence and sensory connection. It offers a poignant reminder that preserving dignity for the bedbound requires adapting our expectations to find joy in the smallest shared moments.

BEDBOUND DEMENTIA CARE | Activities, Interactive Pets & Little Joys 🤍Added:
Good morning everyone and welcome back to another video. I really hope you guys are doing well and keeping okay. I have just pulled up outside my nan's care home ready to step into the dementia world again today. I always find it a little bit hard at this point making that move of getting out the car and going into the care home. And I feel like sometimes that isn't spoken about enough of how difficult that process can be because you really just have no idea on each and every day of what you're walking into and how today can look.
Now, I did want to share something on this topic here because the care home manager had actually shared with me recently that it'd be a really nice idea to share alongside online as well about how you can kind of call the care home maybe 10 minutes before your visit just to gauge how today has been and how things are right now before you step into the dementia world because so much can change in a really small space of time, especially with dementia and it can be really difficult to know how things can be behind the door. And it really is just one of those daunting moments where you're walking through the corridor, you're walking up to the house, you know, you're unlocking the door, you're walking through that door, and you have no idea of what life is looking like on the other side of that door today, whether it's a sleepy day, whether it's a happy day, whether it's a sad day, whether it's an angry day. And it's really hard to prepare yourself when you don't know what you're preparing yourself for. So, I did just want to share that online because I thought it was a really nice way to be able to encourage other people to maybe do the same about calling before so we can kind of prepare oursel for what's happening right now in that moment. And again, so much can change in that space of time. But it just makes it a little bit easier of walking in. But yeah, let's go step into the dementia world and see what today holds. When I last visited my nan 2 days ago now, she was quite bubbly and bright. So naturally, I prepare myself for the opposite end of that because my nan goes through like three, four days of really high energy and then the rest of the week she will literally just be sleeping. So I try and prepare myself for if I've had a good day, the next visit will be like a low day and then the next visit could be a high day. And I'm trying to not like expect too much. So I'm disappointed in a way. I'm trying to feel like I'm not sure. It's hard to explain, but it can be really hard to step into the world.
And I'm sure a lot of people can understand that feeling. And if you do, I really do resonate with you. But let's go see how Nan is doing today. I thought today we could do a bit of a vlog of the visit of how today is looking and just capture little moments throughout the visit. Um, but also just keep moments for oursel too because it's really important to kind of have a good balance. But yeah, let's go in. Let's go see how she is and let's step into the dementia world again today. I've got a cup of tea for Dorothy.
>> Can you get me one, please?
>> This one is for Dorothy G.
>> Made it.
>> I've made it today.
>> Oh, I have one of that. I don't want this mom made it cuz tea, >> does she?

>> She does. Yes, she does. Mom, how long did your tea packet last you?

>> Oh. Oh, it's very good in there then, isn't it? Do you get some dinner when you go there?
>> Yes, sometimes I do.

>> Oh, they got all sorts. A big big night.

>> Oh, >> and it's lovely and fresh.
>> Oh, it's always fresh from Morrison's.
>> Yeah.
>> What's your favorite one to choose?
>> I hope Morrison is best because >> I just had a bet with a girl at school.
>> Oh, >> I think M will beat the others.
>> Oh, what are the others?
>> Well, this M. I just told you that one.
>> Yeah.
>> And then this the other one. What's their name?
>> Uh Tesco.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, Tesco's.
>> If nobody got that.
>> What about Sainsbury's?
>> Oh, that's a bit too out of town for me.
>> I'd have to run back.
>> What about Marks and Spencers?
>> Oh, yeah. Now that is very very nice.
>> Yeah.
>> Clean. Yes, it is.
>> I've got a question for you.
>> Go on then.
>> Do you prefer Morrison's or Marks and Spencers?
>> Well, I think it would be Morrison's.
>> Oh, really?
>> Because that's cheaper than Marks and Spencers.
>> Yeah, it is.
>> A lot cheaper. Yeah.
>> I have to sell my house to go there.
>> Oh, no. It's not that bad.
>> No, it's all right. You know what you're getting, don't you? The fruit and vegetables though from Marks and Spencers. Lovely.

>> Uh, oh, I don't know because I need different things every week.
>> Oh, how much is it normally?
>> It's normally about 10 and four.
>> 104?
>> No, £14.
>> Is that for the week shop?
>> Well, just I'm just guessing. Oh, >> I don't pay for my week splash. My husband pays.
>> Oh, it doesn't matter then, does it?
>> No, >> you can add the chocolates in then.
>> Pardon?
>> I said you can add all the chocolates in if you're not paying.
>> Oh, yeah. I'm I'm not a chocolate lover, though, darling.
>> No, you're not. I like chocolate sweets, but I'm not based on this chocolate lover.

>> No.
>> What? You go to work and you go to have a boss. Who pays you then?
>> Oh, I do have a boss at work.
>> That's the man. Oh, sorry. I was getting muddled up.
>> Oh, that's it. When you're getting old, is it?
>> I'm not that old.
>> Well, you're not young anymore.
>> I'm 28 years old. Is that old?
>> No, that's not right. That's wrong.
>> Sorry.
>> Cuz I'm here. You can't swear that I am 28, can you?
>> How old are you then?
>> Me? Yeah, >> I am 19.

>> Yes, thank you. Mommy.
>> Mommy.

That's just I couldn't think of that word before.
>> Wow. That would be good. I've got something to show you today.
>> Oh, dear.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, lovely.
>> You know our next door neighbor?
>> Yeah.
>> They've got a cat.
>> What's a patch?
>> A little cat. Meow.
>> Oh, a cat. I got a pack.
>> Oh, no. And they've brought the cat for us to see. Would you like to hold the cat?
>> Not really, cuz it scratches me. Can't scratch me. Well, shall I hold it for us?
>> Yes. All right, then. She's got something in her hand to get that cat, aren't you, Mom?
>> Can you hear it?
Hello, cat.
A Can you hear him? There's a cat there.
Hello, cat.
>> No, I think he's gone. He's gone. Mommy, >> can you hear it? He's purring. Would you like to stroke him? Yes, I am doing like that.

>> Oh, can you feel him breathing up there?
>> His bones soft as well. You feel his bone.
>> He's lovely, isn't he?
>> Yes, he is. Mom, >> what should we call him? I don't know yet. What shall we call you, darling?
>> He's black and white. This cat, what should >> Black and White? That's a lovely name.
>> You can't call him that though, can you?
>> No. What should we call him?
>> Blackie.
>> Blackie.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, that's a lovely name.
>> He'll remember that one when he gets older, won't you, Mommy? Well, and we'll always know him as the black cat.
>> Yeah, we will.
>> Oh, we'll always know him on the tight.
>> A, >> he's very lovely.
>> Where's he going?
>> Yeah, he's falling asleep.
A, these are amazing, these interactive plushies. So, it's got like a breathing mechanism. Mommy, put put dummy inside of him. See what he does.
>> Oh, okay. What do you think about him?
Is he nice?
>> Yes, he's lovely.
>> Actually, listen.
>> Oh, >> he's a very big cat, isn't he?
>> Yes, he is. He's a tom cat, that one.
>> Oh, is that what it's called?
Well, not I don't know name, but Tom cat needs one of the biggest cat.
>> Oh, what do you >> Come here, Daddy Booger. What are you doing?
>> Should we pop him on the side?
>> Oh, yeah.
>> Should we let him go back in the garden?
>> He scratched more than anything, though.
>> Oh, they do. Do you want to say bye to the cat? Bye, cat.
>> Bye-bye, cat.
>> See you later.
>> Yes. Bye. Bye. What did you call him?
>> You called him Blackie.
>> Oh, why is he black?
>> He's a black and white cat.
>> Oh, well, that's just right then, isn't it?
>> Yeah.
>> Do you know how much a cat costs?
>> For how much?
>> I don't know. Asking you.
>> Oh, it's not our cat. It's the next door neighbor. Oh. Oh, I don't want that one.
>> No, I don't want that one from next door because he's horrible.
>> He's scratched everybody.
>> Oh, we don't want that.
>> No, we don't. We should not scratch me yet.
>> I just put me finger up like that. So, if she looks at me and he looks at me, I must say, "All right, then you'll do if you dare."
>> Oh, >> he goes on.
>> Well, they've got a new cat now. Also, I think he's very nice.
>> Thank you.
>> That's all right. Some more. It's >> lovely.
>> It is a lovely drink, isn't it? You need to get lots of drink down here today cuz it's going to be very hot.
>> What?
>> Lots of drink cuz it's very warm out there.
>> Yes, it is. Mom, >> it's going to be 30°.
>> Oh, night.
>> I know. We'll have to get your sun cream on like that.
>> Let's put some on. I I need some on my back.
>> Oh, on your back. Here we go.
>> Yes, cuz when he's walking like that, it hurts his back, Grandma.
>> Oh, we'll have to make sure we get some on there, then. Well, I've brought us some jelly sweets today. These are by the Jelly Drops. You guys might have heard of these before. They've very kindly sent us out a box of some of the flavors. So, we've got six different flavors in here, and they are filled with 95% water, electrolytes, and vitamin B's to be able to get in the fluids if you are struggling. The only thing I will say is how amazing they are. They can be a real difficulty of picking them up for somebody that may struggle, especially like really slimy little jellies. So, what we do is we put them into a little cup and mash them down like jelly, and it's a bit of like a dessert sweet treat. and it just gets in that fluid in a different form in a bit of a fun sweet kind of way. So, I know my mom loves the strawberry ones, so I normally go in with a couple of these and then we just mash them down. I would recommend having a look if you are struggling with getting the fluids down cuz we definitely went through periods on this journey where Nan struggled to drink and >> down.
>> Get the fluids down. Now, >> Daddy's coming.
>> Oh, dad's coming. Oh my goodness. What you Would you like some pudding?
>> Oh, that's lovely.
>> It's a little bit of jelly.
>> It's lovely, Mom.
>> Is it nice?
>> That is lovely and cool.
>> Ooh, nice on the gums.
>> Yeah, >> I like these ones. They smell lovely.
You smell them?
>> Oh, yeah.
>> It's like strawberry heaven. Yeah, I think these are amazing, especially when the weather is getting a little bit warmer out there. And um like I said, you can't get the fluids down. It just makes it a little bit more fun to drink water. And of course, they are filled with the electrolytes in here as well, which is always really good to know that they're filled with goodness. And there's lots of different flavors. We do prefer the strawberry ones, but they've got like orange, lemon, >> no m in your mouth. Mom, >> you've got your jelly in your mouth, haven't you? Lots of different ones. But I didn't want to put your hand in your mouth cuz get ice cream all over it.
>> Oh, don't worry about that. We can clean you up, can't we?
>> How do you do? How do you do? Hello, Dorothy Jean. How do you do?
>> What does it taste like?
>> Cold.
>> Oh. What flavor is it?
>> Is it orange or strawberry?
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, both. Which one is your left hand?
>> That's my left hand, Mommy.
>> Yeah. Can you give me a high five? A high five. Like this?
>> No, it's not like yours.
>> High five.
Which one is your right hand?
>> That one?
>> Yeah.
Which one is your right hand? Well, >> I've only got one left and one right.
Which one's your left hand?
>> That one.
>> Is it >> that one?
>> Is it really?
>> Yes.
>> Are you sure it's not this one? This is yours.
>> That's not that one.
>> Oh, okay. Well, let's do them both. This time we'll put our arms up.
>> Are we dancing, Mommy?
>> Yeah. Put our arms down.
>> Oh, I can't dance. I'm in bed. You're all right. Put your arms up.
>> It's lovely, isn't it, Mommy?
>> It is. Now, put your arms to the right.
Ah.
>> Then to the left.
>> Yeah. To the left.
>> No more. Mom, I'm not going anymore.
>> Oh, no. Silly.
>> Okay. No worries. Can you squeeze your hands?
>> Yes.
>> Can you squeeze them? Squeeze. Squeeze.
>> Yeah.

>> Oh, >> I've got a dog at home.
>> Has a duck?
>> Yeah.
>> And what's his name? He's called Jack.
