Baker brilliantly shows that emotional intelligence is a survival tool, not just a corporate buzzword, by applying it to the brutal reality of prison. It’s a sharp reminder that self-awareness and accountability are the only things keeping you from being exploited in a high-stakes environment.

He Called Folk The B Word In PrisonAdded:
What up? What up? Y'all already know what time it is. Y now tuned in with you got Joe T and I tell prison stories.
Why? Because I did 10 years in prison.
And who better to give y'all a game other than somebody who done lived it and is on the other side of life. And when I say on the other side of life, I don't mean on the other side of the fence or outside of prison. I'm talking about on the other side of life, the good life. Tuned in. It's married folk.
Bless this conversation when I'm talking. Bless the ears going. Bless the ones who trying to find healing, trying to find itself when they in the mirror.
Bless the ones that I haven't reached.
Bless the ones that be trying to teach.
Bless the trying to understand. We tired of fighting each other, trying to bring peace. Bless the ones who fighting for their marriage. Bless the kids. Bless the parents. Bless the hood.
>> Okay. So, boom. That time, Black James called one of the folks out name and he didn't respond. So, Looney two-piece him. Now, one thing for sure, two things for certain. If you want to expose a person, whether they be in the penitentiary in life, sometimes what you got to do is what they say in Dallas, what I learned is charge them up. And when you charge a person up, you call them out to stand on what they what it is they say they they represent or who they is that they say they are or a thing that they portray.
And in the penitentiary, a lot of times in being affiliated, people are able to read who you are, what you really stand for, and they allow you to get away with certain things because you make the opposition assume a thing, which makes what you affiliated with look a certain type of way. It makes what you affiliated with look like, oh yeah, you standing on all 10 toes. But when you within your own circle, what happens is the people that you affiliated with, they know you really ain't about that life. You only able to do what you do and stand on what you claim that you stand on and talk the way that you talk and walk the way that you walk because you know other people from the outside looking in knowing that you got help. So what happens is when what you affiliated with have to come around and call you out on front street, you in risk of going all the way to the cat. Listen, you in risk of going all the way to the cat, but if they for all those who don't know, all the kid is married now. I'm most definitely a married man. Yeah, married May the 2nd.
Baby birthday was uh May the 4th. We are in Italy right now. We are in Florence.
For everybody who've been watching me for a long time, I do want to see y'all.
I would appreciate everybody to get in the comments and just say something that has helped you or what you've learned throughout my journey or what you saw throughout my journey or what was it that made you continue to listen to me throughout my journey? because uh I think I'm just in a season of um soaking in you know what I have been in this world cuz sometimes uh you're doing what you doing and it's only moments of when you really realize the impact that you have made or the change that has transpired. So, I would appreciate, you know what I'm saying, for people to get in comments, I don't know what video it was. I don't know what it said. I don't know what I said.
I don't know what video uh that you go back and watch. I don't know what moment. I don't know what Tik Tok, what Instagram, what Facebook post. I don't know what it was that made you say, "Hey, I'm going to keep uh seeing where this go." You know what I'm saying?
Because after doing 10 years in prison, in and out of juvie, in and out of jail, in and out of trouble throughout my entire life, and then coming home in 2007, it is 2026. Yeah, 2026 now. We uh embarking on 10 years. Um this started happening around 2021, 2022 co before I moved to Dallas. Um, I would appreciate it. You know what I'm saying? Whoever uh to get in the comments and just let me know what was the moment when you was like uh you felt like a seed was planted or or a seed was watered from the most high that made you say, you know what I'm saying? Things are possible. Because I'm going to be honest with y'all, there were moments in my life where I didn't realize what was possible, what could happen, what would happen. You know what I'm saying? I did see these things. And when you come from a certain life, you know what I'm saying? You do see a thing. But when you see a thing in a certain life, it's just to give you hope. It ain't necessarily that you can see it happen. Because I know a lot of people that I have been around who had a hope, who seen a thing, but that thing may have never manifested the way that they seen it. I know people who 40, 50 years old to this day who still waiting on the manifestation of a thing that they seen that they that that they held on to cope and give they self hope because it didn't look like they was in a place of hope. Before I went to the penitentiary, it felt like that in Springfield.
When I went to juvie, there were things that I told my mind to stay alive. When I went to jail, there were things that I told myself to make it through. When I went to prison, I had to find the same way to make it through my sentence and saying that one day I was going to become Now, this might be funny to you, but I'm I'm going keep it honest with you. I remember telling myself, Rihanna going to be my girlfriend one day. But it was it was my way of encouraging myself to be better at music, better in my vocabulary, better in my uh the way I carried myself because there was a certain lifestyle, there was a certain way of life that I wanted. And the only way to get my mind to understand that was to basically do what they call the real thing of imposttor syndrome to become something in my mental manifested in my in in my body so I could become something that I thought was impossible. If if if that if that makes sense. So I want everybody to get in the comment section, man, and just drop what it was. If it was something I said, it was a if it was a video, if it was a Tik Tok, if it was Facebook, if it was Instagram, if it was something that you seen somebody shared to let me know what was the moment that you said, I want to watch this journey because it's encouraging me. So, I'm sitting in my cell one day.
I'm cooling. I'm chilling. I'm mind like I always do, right? All of a sudden, dramatic effect me.
Hey, Joe T, man. Hey, bro. And Black Jane. I hear the way that he responding through the door and I can tell he's standing at the crack of the door and he making sure I hear him and hear what the tone of his and and what his demeanor before I even get up to pop the door at at the time. I don't want to deal with Black Jane, but I am curious to know what it is going on so I could get in front of something just in case I need to uh turn down some tension so I won't have to be on the front line. Now, a lot of people would think that I was shaky folk, but let me explain something to you real quick. Commercial breaking real quick. Now, when you in the penitentiary, you would assume when you've lived a certain type of life before you got to the penitentiary. And when you get to the penitentiary that you done demonstrated that you on whatever type of time that whoever else in here on that you ain't going at some point you realize you have to start thinking for other people who don't real who don't know how to use their intellect.
They don't know how to tap into emotional intelligence and understand that these people are moving off emotions, ego, pride. Do you know how many times on the street I have been around my homeboys and realized that all of us were on the verge of getting life sentences or or going to a early grave on the basis of proving a point because of our ego, pride, and our emotions. And nobody had the ability to draw back and say, "Oh, no, no, no, no, hold on, hold on, hold on." Now, think about it like this. We boom, nobody had the ability to do that.
Now, when I get to the penitentiary, what I realize is how fast people would crash out. Folks would crash out. Cuz them would crash out. The people would crash out on the basis of proving a point, validation, approval, ego, pride on what had been defined as masculinity and being a man. At some point you realize, some people do, that the leadership mentality has to kick in and you have to realize you have a bunch of crash dummies.
True enough, they coming to you looking at you as the lieutenant, the lieutenant or captain of crash dummies. What they want you to say is yes to everything to solidify what it is they fa to do and why they fa to do it. But at some point you have to start listening to people's reasoning. Hopefully you understand that your reasoning to say yes or no has to make sense. Because if it does not make sense, your reasoning is going to be the reason why you also going to be in trouble. which draw back to when I was on the streets. Them coming to me, looking at me as a head, as a leader, as the one who had who who was the voice of reasoning, my yes or no was going to determine not only if they were going to get in trouble, but me myself was going to end up in a predicament. And then also having to figure out after I put I agreed to put us all in that predicament, how I was going to get them to see and say and move and do what I want them to do to not further the consequences of the predicament. That's just like a person saying yes, let's do this. They crash out. Now you realize you risking a life sentence and now you trying to tell and explain to everybody this is what you need to say. This is what you need to do. This is what you don't need to say. This is what you don't need to do to your selling. This is what you need to say to your lawyer.
This is what you need to say in your statement. This is who you need to call.
This is who need to be your alibi. This is you need to call your girl and tell your girl she need to woo woo woo woo.
Now, you also have to be the brains in trying to get you out of what you agreed to and what you said yes to that put you in a predicament.
So as Black James saying that, I What's up, folk man? Hey man, bro, bro, pop the door. I tell him, man, go ahead, pop the door, f go ahead and pop the door. I got the phone. I I got the phone on the charger. Bro, pop the door. F. By that time, I done got up and I'm standing over by I done pushed the phone behind the TV. Black chain come in. M said, "You ain't got to have nothing for his clothes though." I'm looking at him, he looking at me, we looking at each other.
Hey bro, I've been done told look look bro I done told you about little brother down there man little brother ain't man I'm tell you bro he ain't supposed to be the fork bro I said man who you talking about man little brother down there man he done suck man boom boom I said so what done happened man he done gave 33 something down there on front he come holl at me talking about man they got me do bro I Bro, why you coming and telling me this?
Good, bro. Bro, we ain't going to had nobody run around here embarrassing the folks. I said, so what happened, JT?
Look, bro, I'm down there in the seal, bro. He come down there tapping the door. Papa, hey black J. Hey, Black J.
Keep in mind, J, keep in mind just a day or two before that, I'm going over there. I'm going to go shower, bro. I got a green dot on 50, right? I tap on five. I hear C say hold on real quick.
Hold on cuz I said hey folk. I say hey folk. I hear C again. Hold on. Hold on real quick. Hey this GD say bro. Hey I hear bro say hold hold on. Hold on real quick bro. Hold on real quick.
I pull the door come. Hey folk. You straight in there bro. Hey folk. You straight. J he come to the door. Hold on real quick bro. I'm on something. I look in, I see the 33 standing in the back. I said, "What's up? What cracking up?" He talking about what cracking. I went on and bump bumped on bump down bump down in the cell, right? So when I get in, he talking about, "Hold on, bro. Let me take care of business real quick." Coll, "Hold on, man. I'm trying to take care with you folk real quick."
T I said, "All right, I'm going to stand right here, folk, but I ain't like what going on." So, I step out saying, "Hello, Jo."
And I lean up against the wall. You know what I'm saying? I can kind of I'm trying to hear what's going on.
I hear talking about, "Hey, what he got going on, man? See you taking some B.
Why you tell move around?" folk hollow man know we good come out of the se right he straight out me bless hey what's up make a long story short made four 33 of money right that would I'm going he come over to I said boom boom boom boom boom hey blade James I pop hey what's up what's going on G what's going on folk he popped a pop said man you remember day when you came over to the jail bro he already whining joy I said J I said black J don't get us into nothing man I ain't f to get us into nothing look I ain't gonna get us into nothing but ain't nobody not going to be playing around nothing. They lay around her. I said, "Look, even though they laying sometime they personal business, bro, that what you taught me, man. Bro, I feel black J. I feel you on that." But look, it became GD. And when I seen what was going on, I said, "Black J, you trying to groom somebody the way that you groom me." And you got to keep in mind that everybody ain't cut out for certain things.
Commercial break me, please.
Sometimes we don't realize we're trying to turn somebody into what we are.
We expecting somebody to be built the way that we are built and they haven't had the experiences that we done experienced.
This brother right here came to the penitentiary on a violation of probation because he did not want to say what it was he what they got caught with in the car. It belonged to somebody else. He didn't want to tell. So he just there spending a short period of time. But he one of them people like my brother.
When my brother got plugged in from my daddy, my brother was never a street dude.
Never shot nobody.
never robbed nobody.
Probably only got in one or two fights.
And this ain't me throwing my brother under the bus as if um there are certain things that make up a street do because I don't agree with the street life in no shape, form or fashion.
But there are some people who assume that they are cut out a certain way on the basis of they are in a piece of the life.
One of the first times my brother called me who he called me about was a street dude.
I knew he only called me on the basis of he knew had he raised his voice, had he threatened this person, had he called this person to raise his voice, he knew that would had to be an extension of what it was because the minute that person would have responded and said, "It is what it is. Get it in blood when you see me." Which was what I was in the streets. There wasn't too many people who was going to cross the line and say, "Ah, you got messed up whenever you see me. If that's how you feel, then it is what it is." Because they knew it was either going to be you or it was either going to be me the minute I made the call because I had already what the scripture would say, count the cost. There are a lot of people who done signed up for certain things who have counted the cost but there are a lot of people who in their mind they counted the cost but they mouth don't resemble that. My brother knew the cost it was if he respond a certain way because of what was going to come with that. So he would rather call me which put me in deeper situations.
So when he coming to Black James, it's because nine times out of 10, he done counted the cost because his brother ain't cut out that way. And if he respond to the 33 and the 33, smack him or disrespect him. Nine times out of 10, he know he ain't going to go like that. He ain't cut out for it like that. And then the 33 going to come out into the dorm into the unit and probably be even more disrespectful which going to put folk in a deep in a deeper situation. Black James say man he come man what's up what going on he talking about man you came over man I did this for him black J said I said what you tell what you telling me for man cuz I know you was outside the door so you know I'm telling the truth said no no no I asked what you telling me good folk. I'm going to go over, bro. I need some AA, bro. I need you to go over with me. Black James said, I told N, bro. Remember, remember, bro, you told me to hold on to whatever whatever you had going on. And then when I came in trying to do what I needed to do, bro, you was, you know what I'm saying? So, I don't know what he done did as far as put your put his foot on your neck. But, bro, don't be trying to use me. Go on over and take care of your business.
Black J said I told him it's Joy if they come back to the four you know what I'm saying that basically you letting somebody around here ch talk you then I said what black J why you telling me for cuz Joe T we don't need no weak links around here man he breaking bread with the opposition cuz he's scared and then when it come to the four he want to penny pitch he want to bird feed us but then he know we going to come to the rescue he come over to thinking I'm going to come to rescue a breaking enough bread with me for me to be coming to his rescue. If anything, bro, he can go on over with them if they if that's if that's how you know what I'm saying they want to treat them.
Because what it look like, Joy, think about it, bro. What it look like? You can treat us how you want to treat us.
Bird feed us. Move how you want to move around us. But then you scared of the opposition and you doing whatever you want whatever they they you doing whatever they want you to do whenever they want you to do it and then you want to run over here and holler man on bro I'm tell you bro I'm going to go over here and cr man I'm tell you Joy if one more brother come over there talking about brother ass on leg bro I'm smashing them bro I said I said black J n for real bro they using GD for they protection, bro. And I get it. I get it, bro. A lot of these folks is scared to step to the opposition the way they ain't scared to step to the folks because they know we going to get a violation if one of us go across their face. Don't be real with me. I said, "What's up?
Did you want a snack to know when you were down in the sh with him in town when he fa to get that m I said there's a few brothers in I've been want to put my hands on I said red eye bj I said when them folk got on me got over on me on that I told you it go over right when all that going on what he said he gave you five five he gave 500 then he front you the other five and he told you he won't say nothing to nobody else. I said, "Yeah, I ain't never told you." I'm sitting down there and see white boy came to the Z. I said, "Man, what's up?" He come to see him, man. Bless, man. What's going on? What's going on, Black James? I said, "Man, what's up, man?"
Man, I'm man, I'm trying to get me. I'm trying to n I'm trying to n I said man go over s and s he said no they ain't got it man he said man it's BJ and black J said no BJ only he said no BJ do got it he said man he s my so my homeboy or something said man this price is right I'm trying I'm trying to holler BJ I'm be honest with you I You feel what I'm saying?
Man, let me go see what's up. I ain't going to make me money. I go over there and holl at BJ. Blej man BJ got blended dog food over. I said, "Why you didn't bring it up, bro?" When I f get ready to crash out on them, cuz bro, I really don't fool with black. I really don't fool with white folk like that. I don't fool with BJ. BJ don't fool with me. We don't fool with each other, man. Joy, I go over before this all this happened. Before this, I go to this. I got 250.
Hey, hey, BJ. He popping up. Hey, man. I got He talking about I ain't got it right now.
I said, man, come on, bro. He talking about I ain't got it, bro. I ain't got him right now, bro.
All right, I go holl at Jig who he done call Jig who on the phone who gonna tell me, "Nah, don't come down here and me. You just went up and BJ BJ want to give it to you. What make you think I'm going to give it to you?" I asked him how you I black said, "Oh, he called me. He He called you. He was up here. He said as soon as you left by the time you made that man late game [ __ ] man ain't got no game.
All right.
All right. They I understand y'all. I said no y'all. No it's cool. It's cool if y'all done told each other ain't black war on. I said brother they ain't never called me about nothing. I'm going to tell you now. But anyway let me go see.
I go and tell BJ tell me. Oh yeah. He do it. So, bro, when you came around and you were telling me everybody, man, BJ was supposed to w them folk me out. I said, do what?
I'm going crazy with the folk when some of the folk ain't doing what they supposed to do, bro. I ain't going to lie, bro. If it come to him the way it came to me, it is what it is, bro. Them folk call me out, bro. I done went to M's kids, bro.
I said, "So you knew the inside scoop the whole time. I done spent my money with this dude the whole time he doing what he said he wasn't going to do and you knew about it and you didn't say nothing because don't teammate if you would have smacked him in the face, bro.
If you bro I said, "Bro, I would have crashed out there, bro." Man, bro, it is what it is, bro. But look, look. Anyway, anyway, anyway, do what I'm man. They folks just crazy. Commercial break.
Sometimes it's people who know exactly why you saying what you saying. They know about what happened when you explaining what you explaining. But on the back end, because of their own hurt, because of what they experienced, you got to understand that misery is a company. Some people want to see people get hurt the way the same way that they got hurt. They want to see some people get disappointed the same way they got disappointed. They want to see the betrayal to the extent the way they seen the betrayal. So they cool with sit back knowing certain details that you don't know because they waiting to be able to feel good because they ready to see somebody else experience the same thing that they experienced. It was several times where I seen some of the guys who got crossed out, went to certain things, went through certain things, went through certain violations, and then on the back end, they didn't give the brothers advice that they had based on their personal experience. My daddy always used to tell me, people give advice based on their filter system. But a lot of these brothers wouldn't give advice based on their filter system because they wanted you to turn into the same angry. They wanted you to be the same level of bitter. They wanted you to be the same level of resentful by constantly going through what they done experienced. Because sometime what happen is people quit listening to people who done experience certain things. So that people quit talking and at that point when people quit talking they allow you to turn into what they never had the intentions to turn into.
And then it turns into a conversation where they say, "Man, do you remember when?" And then this right here happened. And then you sitting here thinking to yourself, "Why you didn't tell me that?"
Because the person who watching you thinking you wasn't going to you thinking they ain't going to do me like that.
You ain't going to let me. Ain't no way you'll do that to me. But then when you try to explain something to a person, it's just like a person in a relationship. Some people in a relationship, if you try to give them some advice, they'll think you hating.
So you have to allow a person to go through it and then turn around on the flip side and say, you know, I went through that and and it's painful because you want to say, "Well, why you didn't tell me?" Because I don't went through enough of my life to know.
Sometime I gota allow you to bump your head for you to even understand and get what it is that I wanted to tell you.
Because if I would have told you before it happened, you would have thought I was trying to interrupt your process or whatever it is you had to go through. So when Black James telling me telling me this about the brother, Black James basically telling me that brother need to be crossed out because he ain't built for GD.
on the back end.
He going through what he going through with the opposition, but he want to run to GD to help him. So, I'm asking Black J. So, bro, what you what do you want me to do, folk, man, go down there, bro, and holl at the 33 and see and and see if the 33, you know what I'm saying? I said I said, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
You want me to go down there and check on a debt for somebody that ain't got nothing to do with G? Nah, bro. I'm reporting this to you, bro. I said, bro, I'm not gonna do that unless bro come up here and holl at me. I'm not like, that ain't got nothing to do with, bro. He was like, nah, bro. I don't want it to be no issue cuz brother came up here.
Black James said like, brother make it like it's going to be an issue. So, I said, I'm going to go holl at brother and I tell brother take care of business, but I'm not going to do that.
He like, all right, bet. So, I come out of the cell. Soon as we walk out of the cell, I see a brother down there with going by the 33. They ain't having no conversation, but they standing almost next to each other. Black James like, "Oh yeah, he a sucker, bro. He a sucker, bro. Look, look, look, bro. Look, bro.
Bro, he ain't going to keep doing it, bro." Lil Looney, who I done told y'all about with the cross, he that got crossed out. Lil Looney said, "Bro, what's going Oh, what's what's up, folk?
What's going on? Black James being mess down there sucker man. He know that 33 army sitting out there. He don't even want to say nothing. I was just telling J. He put him in the B. I look at black James. I said oh he think he slick.
Looney said who? Black James point down there bro. I said bro I got I'm going to go down there and holl at him. Looney said I'm going go down there wish. I said no cuz I don't want to cause no scene. I said let me go down holl bro myself.
So I come down the stair. I'm thinking about everything Black James just said.
I'm I'm already knowing how to calculate this situation, right? So, I walk down there. I walk past I got the 33 on this side, folk. So, I got to walk past the 33. I speak to him. I What's up, hood?
What crack? Hey, what's up G? What's up, folk man? What's up, folk? What's up, bro? He like, what's going on? What going on? I said, "Man, what's up? What's up? What's up with you and what's up with you and C? What you talking about? What you what you mean what's up with me and C?" I said, "Man, Black J said you came down and said if uh he owe you some money." I said, "Man, I'm trying to make sure that the folks ain't going to get involved, you know what I'm saying, about whatever you got going on." I uh uh uh Yeah, folk. I'm going to get to holl at him right now. I said, "You want you want to holl at him right now?" I said cuz at the end of the day I said ain't nobody chopping none of the folk I who who ain't nobody chopping me around. I said so what's I said let's go ahead and and get and get that out of the way. So we walk around and we walk past the 33 brother like brother say hey cuz whenever you get through talking to home talk to your homeboy let me holl at you.
The 33 say I I'll holl at you cuz whenever you know what I'm saying I I got you pinching goes in effect that's bro I'm going to get to you when I get to you.
So I look at bro I said what's up bro? He turn now for real. He turned. He He He backpedaling and walking now. Now for real though, Coll say, "Man, C, I told you I'm on something, C." He raised his voice.
Black James at the top of the stairs with it on it knowing the situation.
Black James say, "Cool. Who you hollering? Cool. Who you hollering at?"
Cuz everybody just kind of look cuz don't say nothing. Folk turns say, "I'm good, bro. I got it, bro. I'm good, bro.
When he say that, that's acknowledging that they talking about the same homeboy that Black James is just calling out loud. So, it made the homeboy the homeboy said, "I Hey, what's up, Black James? You talking to me? You talking to me? What? You talking to me?" Black James said, "Hey, I ain't know nobody, hey, ain't nobody f to be on the f around here, man. Come on, bro." He responded to Black J, man. cuz they between me and your brother, man. They ain't got nothing to do with you, bro.
Me and the brother still walking. I said, "Hey, bro, you going to have to go ahead and handle it." He turn around and walk for me and walk over to Black J. I mean, he walking over to cuz let me let you in the cell. Cuz say, "M I just told I'm talking to my homeboy right now." At that point, it's a issue.
I'm watching bro say, "All right, well, just holl at me when you through." Hey, Black J. Hold on folk. I got it folk cuz sitting right there left over the right like this. Hey, hold on cuz I'm watching his body lang. He lean over and tap it homeboy. Hey, homeboy, they start snickling black. The the the brother start going up the step. Little Luna.
Oh, nah nah. Ain't nobody f to be disrespecting the folk, right? Ain't nobody He's like, "Nah, brother. Don't take that. Go on down there and take care of your business."
So I start walking over towards the step. I'm coming up the steps. Hey, what's up? Hey, hey, hey, hey, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on. Y'all chill. Y'all chill.
