Price hike in Edinburgh Airport's drop off fees

[00:00:00]It's the first and last dilemma to tackle when you go on holiday. How to get to and from the airport. If you choose to get a lift or book a taxi, it's about to get more expensive. A £2.50 increase will come into place in the short stay car park at Edinburgh Airport from next week, meaning 10 minutes at the drop-off zone will cost a total of £8.50, making it the most expensive in Scotland. [00:00:51]>> They're the only one still reasonable at Prestwick Airport. So, it is. And you get a free hour for £4.50 for down there. The airport is blaming what it calls a wholly disproportionate rates increase, which it says will total £8 million. The Scottish government denies that once transitional relief is applied that the airport will be paying that much. It's another blow too for taxi drivers. With the fuel costs as well on top, it's I mean, your the fuel costs are up about 30% at the moment. It's And plus then you're hit with this as well. I think it's beyond, guys. Just beyond time. It is crazy to put it up to that. At the moment, rules dictate cabbies can only pass on £6 of the cost to a customer, which could leave drivers out of pocket. There is a current fair review going on right now, and that's going up to £7.

[00:01:45]So, the union is now formally engaged along with many other stakeholders in the trade with Edinburgh Council looking for intervention. The city's transport convener says he's fully supportive of United's position, calling the increased charges outrageous and unjustified.

[00:02:02]Drivers still can use up to 30 minutes free drop-off and pick-up here at the long stay car park, which is roughly a 10-minute walk from the airport. And of course, there is still all of the public transport available. But for those who do need to use services that are closer to the terminal, that price is going to go up from next week.
