Soap operas like General Hospital construct their plots around seemingly random or 'nonsense' events (such as car accidents, secret med schools, and mysterious disappearances) that serve as catalysts for character drama and audience engagement, demonstrating how fictional narratives use implausible scenarios to drive emotional storylines and maintain viewer interest.

All the Plots Are Built on NonsenseAdded:
Oh my god, mama. What happened yesterday? Why didn't we do the star cast?
>> Well, I was driving down Highway 91 and I I wasn't really paying that much attention to where I was going and all of a sudden this car swerved at me and I was so excited that this scarf I was wearing over my head fell forward and I couldn't see where I was going. So, I scraped the guard rail and now I moved my scarf back and I saw there was no other car. Anyway, I couldn't get to our recording session. I'm sorry, David.
>> Oh my god. We >> I'm going to find that driver and I'm going to bring them to justice.
>> I was going to say you you you you're totally not at fault. Don't blame yourself for this. We will find that person >> and bring them to justice for leaving me on the side of the road for dead.
As you know, we had to postpone our recording yesterday morning. It actually wasn't about me driving. It was about David because David's on a top secret assignment on set on location doing really top secret things. So, we had to postpone till Tuesday morning to record.
Here we are. But don't worry, we will find out who is responsible for me not being able to do the snarcast because I'm telling you, there was somebody else. Oh, wait a minute.
>> I'm responsible for not doing. I messed up the times.
Lyanna's on the the left coast. I'm on the right coast. And you know, three-hour time difference. And when I wrote it down in my book, I wrote 3:00.
And mama meant her time and I thought it my time.
>> I will repent and forever more from this point forward use the time zone after the time because this is not the first time this has happened and we've both made this mistake. So it's it is what it is.
Anyway, let's break down what happened last week. We had a pretty weird week.
There were filler things which I will talk about in its own separate filler category and then of course we had accident nonsense and then we had the Willow and Drew nonsense and then various kind of periphery things but we didn't have a lot of movement in the Pikeman story. So before we get to breaking down the episode we have a word from our sponsors us. We need you to like and subscribe.
Want to know where to find us? While the main page is on Facebook, as you know, General Hospital snark, and then you can find us all over the internet.
>> We're also on Substack where we have a weekly recap and Mama's Fanfiction. We post our reels on Instagrams, and of course, the podcasts can be found anywhere podcasts can be found. And don't forget X for retweets, and also you can find our Snapchat and our weekly recaps there as well. Just like, support, click that bell for notifications so you can see everything we post, and you'll never miss a thing.
Well, David, okay, now that we've got the housekeeping out of the way, where do you want to start?
>> I realized last week that every current plot >> on General Hospital right now is created out of nonsense.
>> Yes, >> the car accident.
The ramen baby.
>> The Robin baby.
>> Nonsense.
>> Nonsense. the Pikeman 2026 summer edition.
>> So much nonsense. Nonsense. I I I literally don't know where to start. But let's let's start with this little trip to New York with Ava and Alexis. To the art gallery that looks strangely like Ava's art gallery. I guess that's a thing. White brick in all the art galleries.
>> I know.
>> Even in the big city.
>> I noticed that too.
>> But I have to take mama to task. Maybe not for not recognizing Maxwell Caulfield as the art gallery opener, but then giving all the credits, but the two credits he's most known for, which is co-starring in Greece 2 with Michelle Fiper and his other soap role, Miles Colby on Dynasty.
You gave every other credit. He did. I think >> that's what happens when you're not familiar with something. This is the difference between David and me. David has watched a whole lot more television and is so much more in tune with who has done what in the past. And I I've never seen Greece too.
>> I did watch Dynasty. I should have recognized him with that. But I was pregnant at the time, so you know, there's no telling.
>> And about 40 years have gone by, so that's true. If I can't remember what happened last week on General Hospital, >> but but as far as stunt casting goes, I think it was perfectly fine. I think he did a perfectly fine job. You know, I I I don't know if that's just Frank showing off. You know, look who I could get, but you know, it it was fun and it was interesting how they got to the photo with E. I mean, I just love the whole fact Alexis is giving Ava advice on how to handle this and Ava knows the exact opposite, but she knows what she's doing. You know, that's the best use of Ava right there.
>> Think that Ava and Alexis are my new favorite couple, and I would like an entire spin-off of just Alexis and Ava Capers forever more because those two make getting into trouble fun.
>> You know what it reminds me of? If you remember years ago, One Life to Live, I think. I'm not sure if it was when Dorian was on trial for killing Victor Lord might have been in the 90s, but she and Noran was her lawyer. And for a while there, it was like best couple was like Nora and Dorian.
>> I remember that. And they were fabulous.
Of course, Nora was one of my all-time favorite characters on One Night to Live. I loved her. So, yes, that there's something about the girlfriends who are both a little bit snarky and super opinionated and kind of different, but they have to work together. I mean, that is comedy gold. They could get there.
>> They could get there with Carly and Nina, >> and I wish they would. And they've almost they've touched that, but >> it looks like they're setting that up.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But, I mean, yeah, the whole art gallery thing, that was great.
I'm a little worried though. I hope we're not going to do a taper like the weeping niad if you know you know and Hxley Lynch is going to suddenly pop back up and you know be involved at that whole nonsense storyline when uh Ava was overseas with with uh one of the replacement Prince Nicholas's.
>> But that's right. But but yeah, no it was that that was great. So where to next? What what was what was sort of your big thing last week?
>> Okay. I I took notes because admittedly last week we kind of skipped over some big things and we were called on the carpet for it. So I took notes.
>> Let's talk about Willow and Drew and this nonsense.
We have Willow's confession. She doesn't want to be married to Drew anymore. Wow, that made the headlines.
>> We have Chase, who is so I want to help you. I love my wife. I remember that I'm married and I'm adopting a child, but I'm here to listen to you, right? What nonsense and twaddle and Sidwell's response to Willow was my favorite.
She's like, "What do we do? We have to we have to bring him out of the thing."
And he's like, "No, no, no. I know how to shut him up." And she's like, "What?
What did you find?" He goes, "We'll just kill him." I'm like, "Okay, well, that's efficient. Let's just kill him."
>> Oh, I don't know. But what about this turn with, you know, I feel like again, was there a secret invisible episode that now Nah is not giving him the medication and they're teaming up?
>> There was a secret invisible episode where Nenah had some kind of crisis of conscience. Well, we've seen that coming, right? Nina gets so frazzled when she's conflicted about something.
And apparently in some invisible episode, she decided that she and Jack were going to work together somehow and betray Willow. But what we also saw last week, which we haven't seen in a while, is Dark Michael. Dark Michael showed up >> and he's got a plan. And I don't think it's a very good plan, and it's kind of a mean plan. But his plan is we're going to throw Chase together with Willow because Chase is going to find out that Brooklyn was really the person driving the car who caused the act. No, she didn't cause the accident. Sorry, Curtis has been brainwashing me. I'm so sorry.
But this whole thing of throwing his cousin under the bus just so that he can ruin their marriage to get back at his ex-wife. That felt really dark Michael to me and I didn't like that.
>> Oh, see I did because it's about time and Michael admitted this last week. I think toinda uh who else? He was going to admit it to Brooklyn that you know he doesn't like Chase and he's got good reason for not liking Chase. And so this is the perfect way and he knows how Chase is >> little golden retriever.
>> So I think it's it's it's great. But what I liked was that you know Justinda sort of was like taken aback by Dark Michael like um really you're going to do this to your cousin?
But hey, you know >> that was my feeling too. It was like, do you hate Brook Lynn that much that you would use her as your pawn to achieve all these other things? That seemed really And also, okay, just so we're clear, I did a deep dive and I was double-checking. Do we know that Brooklyn was the person? We do not know that. We do not know that Brooklyn was driving. We do. We know that Isaiah was not the one who was driving. And we don't know if Danny and Charlotte are going to be brought in. and they will remember that they too were driving that night because I was like what what is going on here because we don't know for sure that Brooklyn is the one that's that was I had to verify that.
>> All I got to say is the state of New York needs to do a study on the amount of accidents that happen on Route 91 and fix that damn road. Put some lights up.
Something, you know, >> light speed limits, anything.
>> It's lightened the road.
>> Was that was that one of the things that Congressman Kaine was holding up, you know, for his own because he had his own agenda. You're like, I'm not going to fix >> fix the damn roof.
>> Well, I tell you, there are more plots that come out of that road than any other one single location in Port Charles. Obviously, we focused a whole lot about the whole Willow situation that include Jack being a revealing that he could talk, which was very cool. And so, I don't quite understand what's going on there, except Nah's got this wild idea that she's she's going to get in cohorts with Jack, which, you know, Nah and Jack could make an interesting couple. I I'm not I I don't know why I'm going there right now, but I thought she's so whackadoodle. I just I would love to see her with someone who is just like her complete opposite. But we have other movement in the our umbrella story of Pikeman.
Mercifully, the accident doesn't really fall under Pikeman and and and so we can put it in its own separate bubble and kind of pretend that it's not there because the accident story is wearing on my last nerve and Curtis needs to be locked in the character closet with a gag and not brought out again until he has some intense slap therapy because this man is driving me crazy.
One thing I like about this is, you know, again, all the plots are born out of nonsense right now, but within the plots, there are interesting things.
>> Okay, >> for example, I love now that Porsche is against Curtis. I love that because for so long she was trying to hold on to him and this and that. And it's I kind of feel like I could start to like Porsche again because of this plot because now she's feisty and she you know I mean he you know and General Hospital never goes halfway. You know it wasn't that Isaiah just had a fracture in his hand. He's got 11 fractures and this and that.
Multiple operations.
>> Oh my god.
>> It's like they have to go all in. I like the repercussions. And of course, this going all in on this plot now brings back our most one of our most beloved features, the Trina tiny tantrum of the week. And this week it was realizing her father's a stupid ass.
>> That whole conversation with Trina and Gio, this is GH does this. This is one of their classic filler menus. They pull, we need a filler scene. Oh, let's pull the >> you're supposed to do something, but you really don't want to do something. So, we're going to have someone talk you into doing the thing that we knew you were going to end up doing anyway. And that was the whole showcase nonsense conversation.
>> The whole episode, the whole episode of I'm waffling now. you know, never mind that this music industry professional has lined up all these people to come see a showcase and I've been rehearsing.
I begged Gio to, you know, be my accompanist. Never mind that. I need to waffle for a whole episode. I think it usually happens on a Wednesday, these waffling episodes where it's just like we start here where it's like, okay, this is what was said. Oh, nope. Now somebody's having doubts about something and like you said, they have to be talked back into doing the thing that they were going to do anyway. I mean, I would love it.
>> I would love it if the soap just went, you know, I don't feel like doing this.
Okay, that's the end of the plot, >> right?
>> Well, we've kind of seen that in the past with drop plots. It's just like we get this big buildup and all of a sudden, >> what's happening? Nothing.
It is nice to see Gio's growth, I guess, you know, sort of sort of coming back to music, but it's not the be all and ends all and it's not his career isn't over, blah blah blah.
>> Gio is also the one who is he is the talk to person right now. you know, Emma talks to him and we get Anna information from that conversation and he talks to Rocco and this, you know, so he's kind of the talk to guy, but >> yeah, >> he's he's really growing into his family role as big brother as, you know, related to these people. So, I I think they've handled Gio in a really good way. He's he is a really great character and I I'm really glad they brought him on board. wasn't too sure at the beginning, but he is 100% I'm in his camp 100%.
>> Is it like when they get those talk to roles or they're the best friend or the the con, you know, confide in me character, it doesn't annoy me like it does with some other characters. Carly's like that way, too, cuz Carly is a good, you know, when anybody confides in Carly, she's a good go-to.
Plays that role well. Yeah, >> she does.
which he's not mad.
>> So, speaking of speaking of >> car, is it Carvana? That's >> Carvana. Yes, >> Carvana.
>> That uh was it Valerie? Valerie Catherine?
>> Yeah.
>> Suggest for the new >> Squish name. Even though >> the squish name of them.
>> Yeah. Anna's out of the picture right now. But um so what about all that last week? that whole admitting that there's, you know, there is something there.
>> But they have to do that though. They have to do that because the last time Val was around, >> he was in Anna's camp 100%. And we know Anna's history with him. It's it's it's decades long, right? So, that was a very natural way. Hey, dude. We're at the beginning of this relationship. There's a lot going on between us. We've got all these distractions and stuff. I, you know, go ahead. Go take care of Anna. Just leave me here with my problems. Fine. And he's like, "Wait, wait, wait. No, no, that's not the sitch at all. Sorry. I really didn't handle that well." Yeah, you didn't. But yeah, they're cute. I just I love them.
>> Me, too. Yeah. Yeah. What? How is it that the person who was described by Helena Cassadine herself as the most evil person on the planet, the the most beloved character on this show?
I mean, in romances, in action, it's it's amazing.
>> Yeah. Well, I I I came to a realization this week and and I'd be interested to see if any of the viewers feel the same way and that is that GH knows how to manipulate its audience, right? They can set things up because we are going now watch we for the last year and a half we've been like, "Oh, Porsche, Porsche." And now because plot, we're now going, "Oh, Porsche's in the right. Hang on. Wait a second." Okay, now here's another manipulation. Drew being horrible to everyone. Oh, he's in a chair. And now Sidwell's threatening to kill him. And we're like, "Oh, poor Drew." I mean, maybe not to that extent, but you see, it's like this endless >> manipulation of how we see these characters. So, no one is fully bad or fully good unless there's someone who's only there temporarily like Colum >> or PJ Pascal >> and Pascal. I have a feeling we're going to see a little bit more of our cute little ferret man, our French ferret men, and he would he would bring the macaron. what you call manipulation is just really good writing that you haven't written your character >> you haven't written your character into a corner because a lot of soaps do that >> they they you know they go down this evil path and then I mean let's face it everybody on a soap has a criminal record >> you know they've done something here or something there you know and we you know if we love the character we get over it you know or they they get them out of it but a lot of soap opers do that unfortunately they they have a character go down an evil path and then they're just like, "Well, we don't know what else to do with them, so we'll double down on the evil." And then they get so evil they have to kill him off. And we thought that for the longest time with Drew.
>> Like they're going to have to kill him off. There's no way they can redeem it.
>> And now we're like, "Poor Drew. Now we just want to see Willow Getters."
>> Yeah. So that's just good writing, >> right? It is good writing. And and that's why we keep watching this. We get comments every day on the big page that say, you know, I I can't watch this. I'm done with General Hospital or if this happens, I will never watch again. But get we are all watching or catching up or at least >> around the corner really do that, you know.
>> Yeah.
>> Very few.
>> Well, >> yeah. I want to talk about another filler scene that we had last week which was very silly and that was the one with Suzanne coming to Alexis's house and catching Molly and Cody in Flegrante.
Suzanne realizing that she's that Cody was actually the hero of the book she just read and she's secretly he's her book boyfriend and oh my gosh here he is in real life. That was pretty funny. I like that.
>> That's got a crush. They should play that up. I think that's funny. Yeah.
Somebody said, I don't know if it was on our page or another page or why did they make Suzanne stupid? And I'm like, how did they make her stupid? She wasn't stupid. She walked in in the middle of the day. She even said like, I wasn't expecting anybody to be home. Alexis is in New York. She gave me the keys. I'm here. You know, >> stupid.
>> She was Twitter paid. Twitter paid. Not stupid. Yeah.
>> Comic relief. Comic release. It was that and we need that.
>> Goodness knows we need that, right?
>> Okay. What other thing? Let's talk about the new guy. Let's talk about Joe Fitzpatrick.
The new detective with the stick up.
>> Joe Fitzpatrick, the not chase detective.
>> You know, I'm not sure. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Jonathan Bennett. I love that there's a new character who was for now a moral spinter, but I just don't think the way they they they introduced him with the, you know, resting Curtis, blah blah. And uh and then I feel like it was kind of dropped and now he's just like like a like a day player coming in and coming out. And I know it's still early. It's He's been on what, two weeks? But it's like and you don't want to call them people.
>> Yeah. But I just feel like it's like, oh yeah, that's right. I forgot about him.
Oh, he's on today.
>> So, I don't know about this introduction, >> but >> and we also learned today that they're going there's a new another new character coming. And get this, they're naming this character Tristan Roberts.
>> And people are up in arms.
Well, it's an interesting way to celebrate Tristan Rogers who played Robert Scorpio and passed away last year, but it's kind of >> in all in defense in defense of the actor who's also a singer by the way.
So, he could he can sing at the Seabo.
>> Yeah. Okay. Maybe that's >> he's an Australian actor. He's an Australian actor. So, yes, it is more it's a tribute. Yeah. I maybe they could have given him a better last name.
You know, it's a it it does feel a little close. Tristan >> Rogers, >> but um you know, we've never said General Hospital is great on naming characters.
>> Oh, what are you talking about, Cashes?
Well, David, >> yeah, >> who is your character of the week?
>> That's a good question. It's, you know, and every week, it seems lately like it's falling to the same like three or four people. Um, you know, it can't be it can't be Rocco because we're now getting a break from Rocco and Brit. It looks like what now that they're on the run, >> but have a little vacay.
>> Yeah, we're gonna have a little vacay.
You know, they've done their whatever their commitment to how many episodes they have to do depending on their contract. I I would say Ava because Friday proved Ava is still Ava and when given something to play I mean you know more or less can read the phone book as far as I'm concerned and you know I'd be throwing enemies at her but you know it's like I just love it when they utilize her correctly and I think you know Friday they they did just that and I hope she stays in this bit for a while.
>> I agree. So, my character of the week, this was hard because it was a week where we had lots of people popping in and out, but I think Lucas, I love Lucas. I love that they're taking this rather happy golucky doctor and they're throwing him in the middle of the Sidwell situation >> and we've got Pascal threatening him and we've got Lucas trying to, you know, move around the various pieces having no idea what he's doing. I think the casting of Van Hansis as Lucas was just one of the more brilliant casts. I absolutely love this character and I hope he hangs around for a long time.
>> Yeah. And I mean, you know, I know people I think the main objection to Van Hans stems from the fact and I it's sad that they that people think this way, but people think this way was the fact that oh, he's not as hot as Ryan K.
And it's like, >> yeah, but Ryan Kins, if you notice, was never really given much to do.
>> Yeah.
>> There was no there was no rip roll.
>> There was no depth to Lucas. And that that was probably the writing, but it was just like, you know, so you're comparing, you know, I mean, I really feel like Lucas is a full embodied character now under Van Hans, who has won Emies, by the way, for his work. So, just saying. But yeah, I think that was the objection like, "Oh, but we but we really and you know, Ryan Kins was very much beloved. I'm not taking away >> from what he brought to the role." And >> out of the many people who have played Lucas over the years, yes, he was the most recognizable um Frank and Ron when they were writing the show brought him back. Brought that actor back after many years. But it's like, but I I'm just loving Lucas the character now. They you you see like what you know you see the inner workings which is what we want to see with a character >> as opposed to oh he just looks pretty.
>> It's the same thing with Ryan Pavey.
It's the same thing with Ryan Pavey. You know he was pretty boy the entire time he was on GH. He did learn to act on Our Time, but he got pretty good. But now I'm loving that like we're seeing something else. And I'm sure Ryan Baby is very happy we're seeing something else. It's like I just don't play, you know, Hallmark Princes or >> no, >> you know, the good guy. I can play >> now. I get to keep pretty girls in dungeons and >> Right. Right. And and you know, and we can even extend that to Eden McCoy. Jos, this is like the first material she's been given in years that doesn't like I think you mentioned on the page, doesn't involve a boyfriend. Like we're really seeing her grow up.
She is one of my favorite characters right now because she's the smartest person in the room and and I love that.
>> Yeah. In a lot of room in the dungeon.
>> Definitely is.
>> But >> do there is one thing we forgot to mention last week which I can't believe I forgot because everyone in the whole soaposphere went what? And that is Christina getting into MED SCHOOL. AH, >> I I would include I would include Molly in that. What? And they took such great pains.
Such great pains to explain everything she did in Secret Invisible episodes.
Apparently over the past two years, two and a half years, whatever.
>> What the hell was that?
>> First of all, she has never graduated from college. I double check this. She has ne she was kicked out of Yale and she never finished PCU.
So there's that.
>> Did she graduate from high school?
>> She got into Yale. So I assume she did.
>> Oh, okay. I wonder I wonder that about Michael.
>> I wonder about most of the cast. Let's face it.
>> But so she's secretly studying for the MCAT and she takes the MCAT and she does well and she gets into UCLA. That's like the That's in the top five hardest med schools to get into in the country. And we're supposed to believe she just did this all on her own.
Yeah, that is a bridge too far for me.
But it gets her off canvas. We know that um Kate Massiey's leaving. She is not going to renew her contract at this point. They have no plans to recast. So, we're just going to have Christina off canvas for several years until they figure out what to do.
And I know Frank's because he's said this before, you know, he's going to hold that role open for her. She'll be recast in six months.
>> It's six months like Michael. Yeah.
>> But I I don't you know, there's a lot of cries on the internet about bring back Lexi Aworth. Okay, here's my take on Lexi Aworth. Never liked her as Christina. Had no I I I just don't like her. And at this point after Kate Manzy has played her, which is the first time I have liked Christina, there's no going back. You can't now, you know, recast with somebody who played the role before because she's outgrown the role.
>> And it's like, you know, I feel like saying to everybody, get over that because it ain't going to happen.
>> Um, >> well, it's like recast with somebody else. I don't know. But >> well, it's like you said, when they do a recast, we have to almost think of it as a different character. And Kate Many's Christina is a very different character than Lexi Eworth's uh Christina. And and so, and the same will be true regardless of what Kate Many decides to do, if she comes back in a couple of years or if they recast, it will be as if it's a whole different character.
Well, David, I think we're at the end of another very strange week. We are recording late. We had a weird week on the show and here we are wrapping things up again. We will see you next week.
Like, subscribe, tell your friends, tell your grandmother, tell everybody about us. We love you. Leave your comments.
We'll see you next time. Bye-bye.
