Fordham Road in the Bronx Isn't Fordham Road Anymore Fordham Road used to be the heartbeat of theAdded:
Fordham Road ain't Fordham Road anymore.
If you know, you know. Fordham Road in the Bronx used to be everything. The shopping strip, the meeting spot, the heartbeat of the borough. You went there for sneakers, for clothes, for music, for food, for everything. Jimmy Jazz, Dr. Jays, the sneaker spots, the street vendors selling bootleg DVDs and mixtapes. That was Fordham Road. Now, it's banks, chain stores, empty storefronts. The culture is gone, the energy is gone, the people are gone.
They pushed out the vendors, they raised the rents, they cleaned it up, and by cleaned it up, they mean they erased it.
The Bronx built Fordham Road. Hip-hop was born 10 blocks away. The culture that made New York famous came from these streets. And now it looks like every other corporate shopping district in America.
No soul. No identity.
No memory.
The old heads remember.
They remember when Fordham Road was ours. When it was black and Latino and loud and alive. Now it's sanitized, safe, boring.
They call it progress. We call it theft.
Because they didn't improve Fordham Road. They replaced it. And the people who built it, they can't afford to shop there anymore. If you remember the real Fordham Road, drop what you miss most.
Let's remember what they took.
