[00:00:00]Rehab was the one of the best things I've ever done in my entire life.

[00:00:04]Difficult, but I think the best thing.

[00:00:08]When you're in rehab, everyone there gets it.

[00:00:12]Everyone there knows. You when you talk about something, everyone goes, "Yeah."

[00:00:17]Everyone knows what to talk about. And I did a lot of 12-step meetings as well.

[00:00:23]And I was in Narcotics Anonymous in the rehab that I went to.

[00:00:26]You got the option between either AA or NA. And I went into the NA meetings.

[00:00:31]And that was unreal, too. Cuz when you're in there, the same thing. When you're talking about things, people get it. And I never really had that in in the real world. Cuz when you talk about addiction, when I'd ever talked about addiction with like friends or family, and people don't understand it.

[00:00:46]And people just go, "Just stop doing it."

[00:00:48]>> They see it as a weakness.

[00:00:49]>> Yeah.

[00:00:50]And therefore, yeah. Yeah. Just don't eat. Yeah, you just just yeah. Just when you when you going to put a bet on, don't put it on.

[00:00:58]And then, you know, you you This is just not how it works. I know I know how ridiculous that sounds, but that's not how it just works.

[00:01:05]It was great to be in there with people who actually understood. And the other thing for me, too, was it just destroyed my ego. You know, I was an arrogant like I was an arrogant prick.

[00:01:15]And I was a very entitled.

[00:01:20]And just through, you know, I went into elite sports when I was 17 years old.

[00:01:24]And the level of entitlement in those industries is is ridiculous.

[00:01:29]And and it just makes everyone really arrogant. And makes you really detached from actually real life. You know, like what it actually means to be an adult.

[00:01:39]You're also very babied in those in those environments. You know, you get told where to be, when to be there, what to bring, what you need. You've got someone nearly wiping your ass every day.

[00:01:50]And so, then I was in rehab. I was in there with people I I have once I would have probably held disdainful. I would look down on if I walked past, you know, if I knew someone who was a heroin junkie, you would have been like, "What a What a loser."

[00:02:05]You know, you would have You would have had contempt towards them. And then I was in there and I was like, "This These are my peers."

[00:02:14]This is this person right here another human being and I'm no better than them.

[00:02:19]In fact, they're probably my you know, they're probably my betters in in some ways.

[00:02:23]And that just destroyed my ego completely and really humbled me and actually allowed me to go, "Okay, I actually No, I I really This is where I belong."

[00:02:36]And there is a lot of work to be done.

[00:02:39]And so yeah, and through through that process and then the the 12-step process and the 12-step I don't know what You wouldn't have ever done the 12 steps. 12 steps are amazing.

[00:02:50]I don't think I was an addict.

[00:02:53]I don't think I My my issue is a whole bunch of other issues and my drug taking and my drinking and all of that is to soothe the pain. So, I I'm the same to as you, but I say addict cuz it's just easier to say. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I think we're all addicts in some way, shape, or form.

[00:03:10]You know, even now, I still see a ad- addiction show up in my life but it's just in much more healthy ways.

[00:03:19]You know?

[00:03:21]What So, through that process life slowly got better? Mhm. Yeah.

[00:03:28]Slowly at first and then quickly.

[00:03:31]And I say to people, you at the beginning it's like turning the Titanic.

[00:03:35]You know, it's just every day is a slog.

[00:03:38]Mhm. And you're just thinking, you know, you like 1 month, 2 months, 3 months and you're going, "This is exhausting."

[00:03:45]Like what Like if it's just going to If I'm going to have If every day for the rest of my life is going to require just monumental amounts of effort. And I'm just going to have to slog through every single day for the rest of my life to stay clean, to stay in recovery.

[00:04:00]I can't do this.

[00:04:02]But slowly, very, very slowly, it gets better. And you'll have one good day out of a month. And the next month you'll have three good days. And then all of a sudden you're like, "Hang on a minute. I've felt good for the last week."

[00:04:16]And then you start having more good days than bad days. And it took me probably, you know, 3 years.

[00:04:24]But but it absolutely gets better.

[00:04:27]And my I relapsed many, many times, even after rehab. I relapsed many times. But the relapses got further and further apart. And each relapse became less and less destructive.

[00:04:39]Where are you at now?

[00:04:41]Today? Uh >> [sighs] >> I think >> in terms of Uh >> in terms of I'm 14 months sober now. Uh no, sorry.

[00:04:49]16 months sober. So I had my last relapse at the very beginning of 2025.

[00:04:54]And once again, it was a like it it in terms of my addiction, it was a very it was a blip like a minor blip on the radar, you know? But there was something about that one. I just sat and the next I woke up next day and I just said, "I'm done."

[00:05:11]I was I just and I felt it in my whole body, you know? I was like, "I'm done."
