Kubla Khan is a famous Romantic poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834), composed in 1797 but published only in 1816 as an incomplete fragment of 54 lines across three stanzas. The poem describes the summer capital of Kublai Khan, a Mongol emperor (1255-1294), and his magnificent Pleasure Dome palace. Coleridge claimed the poem was inspired by a dream he had after taking opium, but was interrupted by a visitor from Porlock Village, causing him to forget the remaining lines. The poem exemplifies Romanticism through its supernatural imagery, musical language, and exploration of poetic inspiration, with themes of imagination, creativity, and the mysterious power of art.

KUBLA KHAN - A DREAM POEM ( S.T. COLERIDGE) LINE BY LINE EXPLANATION IN ENGLISH & HINDI
Added:Hello friends, I am Dr. Ranjeet Singh.
Dear friends, today I will discuss with you a very famous dream poem of ST Coleridge named Kubla Khan.
However, we have already uploaded the introduction lecture of this poem with you and hope you have seen it.
To understand this poem, it is very important to watch the introduction lecture. Otherwise this poem will not be understood. There are many important facts related to this poem which we will cover with you in the form of a recap at this time.
We have discussed this in detail in our first lecture.
So we will discuss with you some important facts related to this poem in short. After this we will explain this poem line by line.
But we hope that you will definitely read the introduction chapter so that you can know and understand all the information and all the important facts related to this poem.
So let's start. First of all, This is a Poem Composed by St. Collaris.
And I have already told you the introduction of St. Collaris. We had also covered his life in a lecture. Then in the second lecture we covered the introduction of the Kubla Khan poem which is a dream poem. The life of St. Callistus is from 1772 to 1834. And he is an important poet among the senior generation of the Romantic Age.
And the senior generation in the Romantic Age included three poets: William Bosworth, Esty Coleridge and Robert Sadik. If we talk about the composition of this poem, then this poem was composed in 1797. But this poem was not published.
This poem took a long time to be published because it was incomplete. It was in the form of a fragment.
As you can see from the title of this poem. I had told you that the title of this poem is Kubla Khan. But this poem also has a subtitle. And it has been written.
A Vision in a Dream.
A scene seen in a dream and this poem is a fragment i.e. not a complete poem. Why is it not a complete poem?
I have already discussed all the information related to this with you in the first lecture.
It is believed that this poem was composed in October 1797. But it was published in 186, almost after 1920 years. And this poem was published. His two other poems are Christwell and The Pains of Sleep.
Published with these posts in 186. The subtitle of this poem is A Vision in a Dream. Vision means a site, a scene, a view. A scene seen in a dream has been described here and this poem is a fragment. That is, this poem is incomplete which was a view that he had seen in his dream, in which he had seen many scenes of ST College, but in the morning when he wakes up and tries to compose his poem based on the same dream, then a person comes to meet him and he gets disturbed and forgets many things of the dream. So this poem remains incomplete.
Talking about the length of this poem, ST Collis had thought that about 200 to 300 lines would be required if the dream was to be written completely. But due to interruption, only 54 lines of this poem could be completed. That means we have only three stanzas of this poem and in those three stanzas there are total 54 lines and there are irregular stanzas. Irregular means the lines in each stanza are not the same. It is not fixed. The lines vary in all the stanzas. The first stanza has 11 lines. The second stanza has 25 lines. The third stanza has 18 lines. In this way the lines are irregular. There is no fixed meter in the three stanzas. What I mean to say is that some lines are small and some are big. The rhyming pattern is also not fixed.
When the lines are not fixed in any stanza then the rhyming pattern is also not fixed. Not regular.
Talking about the inspiration of this poem, I had told in the introduction lecture that there are two sources of this poem. St. Colliers had read two books and it can be assumed that from there St. Colliers had read about Kubla Khan and his summer capital, Jalandu.
[sound of deep breathing] Although ST College says it's a dream poem. That is, this is a description of the scene he saw in his dream. But before this there was St. Call Samuel Purches who was an English Priest, Churchman, Pastor.
His book was Purchase His Pigments. His Pilgrims describe his pilgrimages in which he mentions Jenedu, the summer capital of Kubai Khan, a Mongol emperor. ST College had read this book.
So they knew about Kublai Khan, also known as Kubla Khan, and his summer capital, Jinedu. It is believed so.
Dream Composition ST College claims this, claims that they have described the scene seen in a dream. And if he were to describe the complete scene, write the complete scene, he would need 200 to 300 lines in the entire poem to show the entire scene. But after waking up he remembered only 54 lines. Because while he was composing, a visitor disturbed him. The same visitor is called Person from Porlock. This is the name of Porlock Village. Near where he was staying because he was staying at a farm house.
When he composed this poem, he told an unexpected writer of ST College. Was not expecting it. That a person from such a village who was a resident of Porlock Village came to meet me and interrupted me while I was composing that poem, due to which I forgot the remaining lines, I could not even remember my dream, that person has been referred to as the person from Porlock and this has become a phrase in English literature.
This means that if someone is doing creative work and someone else disturbs him by coming in between, then he is called a person from correspondence.
Talking about the setting of this poem, the story told in this poem, in a way the scene described is an imaginary and magical land. And where is Zenedu?
Zenedu is where Kubla Khan built his summer capital. And in the same summer capital, Kubla Khan orders a magnificent palace to be built for him.
Aaram Mahal is a palace of entertainment where they can enjoy all the luxuries and pleasures. Such a palace should be built. And this palace was to be built at his summer capital in Jennadu. The main characters in this poem are Kabbalah and Kubla Khan.
And there is an Awasinian maid who belongs to a country in Africa and the poet himself who plays the role of narrator. These are the three important characters in this poem. If we talk about the themes of this poem, the poet has used imagination. The poet talks about poetic inspiration.
Tries to explain his dreams. It talks about creativity.
Explains nature. Shows the mysteries of that palace.
There he creates scenes of super natural events and shows how much power poetry has.
How much power does a poet have and what is the power of art. The poet has discussed these topics in this poem. All the important words in this poem are in the form of symbols.
That is, it expresses deep and distant meaning.
Like Pleasdom. The Sacred River Elf. There is a description of a river which is considered very sacred. There the name of that river is Elf Poet. There is Abion Med, there is Mount Abora about which this Abionmed was singing and the description of the Capes of Ice and all these symbols we have covered in detail in our first lecture.
We have covered all these themes in the first lecture.
We have already discussed the important explanation of these characters in the first lecture.
Which literary movement does this poem belong to? So you know very well that all the romantic features that existed in the English Romantic Age have been exhibited and shown in this poem.
That is why this poem is an example of Romanticism, which was a literary movement.
Talking about style, a lot of imagery has been used in it. The poet tried to create images through words.
Its language is very musical.
Symbols have been used in this. And the description of that palace given by the poet is very lively and vibrant. It feels like you are seeing it with your own eyes. And the atmosphere that has been created is supernatural, gothic and scary. There are some sounds that make you feel a little scary atmosphere. Super natural atmosphere.
Talking about this poem, please note that it is considered one of the three important poems of ST colleges.
Regarding the other two, I told you in the first lecture that one is Rime of the Ancient Mariner and the other is Christwell. The third important poem you are studying is Kubla Khan.
And it is considered one of the finest examples of romantic literature. First of all, the title of this poem is Kubla Khan.
So let us know which character he has modeled after the name of Kubla Khan.
This was a real historical character named Kubai Khan. He was born in 125 and died in 1294. Born in 125.
That means this is life span. It is a matter of life and death. And I said Mongol was the emperor. So Mongolia itself, you know, Mongolia was a country and it was a country between China and Russia but at present it is a part of China. So this Kublai Khan was the grand son of Genghis Khan. You must have read the name of Genghis Khan in Indian history.
He was a Mongol ruler. He was a Mongol ruler. His grand son was Kubai Khan. In history he is known as Kubai Khan. ST College has called him Kubla Khan.
This same Kubla Khan was the founder and first emperor and he started the Yuan Dynasty in China. Kublai Khan ruled from 1260 to 1294, approximately 34-35 years.
And it made its summer capital, the capital it made during the summer was Jenaidu. Marco Polo has written it in Italian etc. under the name Shengdu.
So we praise it, Janedu. But in the Italian language in which Marco Polo has described it, he has written its name as Shengdu. It was a very famous city which was known for its beauty and its luxury. This capital was known for its beauty and its luxury and comfort. In this very capital, Kubai Khan orders a Pleasure Dome, a comfortable palace, to be built for him.
Zenaidoo is known for its magnificent palaces.
For your gardens, your forests, your rivers and hunting parks. There are some parks where animals are hunted etc. So this is such a wonderful place, Jenedu, as shown by St. Collis in this poem.
In the poem by [nasal sound] Kublai Khan, right at the beginning of the poem, he orders that a stately, majestic, very proper, pleasure dome, comfortable palace be built for him. This comfortable palace is a symbol of royal power. It is a symbol of royal monarchy. It is a symbol of the fact that he had a lot of money and artistic ambition. He had a great love and affection for art. The symbol of this thing is also this Pleisdome which was ordered to be built by Kubla Khan.
Zenedu has been described very well in this poem. The same summer capital that Kubai Khan had built for himself. Or the capital of his kingdom was the Summer Capital.
And it is believed that this description of Zenedu given by Esti Collis in her poem is based somewhere on this description. The same book was written by Samuel Purchas, a priest, called Purchas the Pigrims.
St. Calliste had read this book. And another example is that Marco Polo is believed to have described his travels in his book. He was an Italian traveler. Marco Polo Businessman and Italian Traveler. In his description of his travels, he also referred to Zenedu as Shengdu.
So it is believed that ST College must have read these two books and then wrote this poem and the description given in this poem has been described on the basis of these two books.
ST Kos presents that Kublai Khan was a very powerful ruler.
He has shown this. He tries to create a heaven on earth just like heaven exists. It is an extraordinary piece of art. An extraordinary example of beauty.
That is why he orders to build such a palace. Gives orders.
Dear friends, this poem has been called Dream Poem by ST College. The simple meaning of the dream poem is that ST Colleges says that he had some physical problems.
Due to which the doctor prescribed him some narcotic medicines etc. and there was a huge content of OPM in those medicines which is called OPM caffeine.
It is itself an addictive substance.
So ST Colleges believes that in the same way, under the influence of OPM, after taking his medicine one night, he goes to sleep and after consuming it, he sees dreams at night.
And in his dream he sees some scenes about Kublai Khan's palace, about that summer capital of Kublai Khan and he wants to describe all these dreams in the form of a poem when he wakes up in the morning. But the same person from Poral comes along with a person from a nearby village who disturbs them and the poem remains incomplete. Only one fragment remains.
I had discussed this poem very well with you in the background of its introduction.
You pay attention. Now let us talk about the text of the poem. The text of the poem has three stanzas. The first stanza has 11 lines. You must be noticing the structure of this poem, some lines are long and some are short. Similarly, there is stanza number two which has 25 lines. The first stanza has 11 lines and the second stanza has 25 lines. If you see in this also, the lines are small and big. Due to which the meter is not fixed. The last stanza is called the third stanza because we have only three stanzas available in this poem. There are 18 lines in this stanza. That means in total we have 54 lines in this poem.
11 lines, 25 lines and 18 lines. We have this poem available in only 54 lines.
That is why this poem has been called a fragment. Now let us explain this poem to you line by line. The poet starts his poem and says that in Zenedu Zenedu is the summer capital of Kubai Khan and he had built this capital as if it was heaven on earth, pay attention to how beautifully it was built and in this very heaven, he gets a palace built for his own enjoyment and gives orders for it to be built, understand it as a pleasure palace, in a way, in this very capital, in the summer capital, Kubla Khan orders that a royal style pleasure dome pleasure palace should be built, he gives orders for this to be done.
This is where the poem starts. That is, Kubla Khan is a Mongol emperor in the beginning of the poem. He was a very powerful Mongol emperor. We have already given its introduction.
He orders a magnificent pleasure palace to be built for him in his summer capital, Zenaidu. He gives such orders and this is where Po starts.
Decree means to give an order or command. And the Pleasure Dome, consider it as Anand Mahal. A very magnificent palace built for pleasure, for fun, for enjoyment. Hence Pleasure Dome means Palace of Pleasure. He says, now look at the ST College which we see in our dreams, it is said that its palace was being built at a place where the Elf River flowed. This is its capital, the summer capital Janaidu, and where the palace was built, there flowed a river named Elf River, which was considered a sacred river there. It was considered a sacred river there and the Rain River used to run there in that capital and it used to pass through many hidden caves and you know very well that the source of the river, from where the river originates, there are hills etc., so that river is not visible to you completely, at some places it is visible, at some places it goes inside those rocks and those rocks are so deep. A person cannot measure or quantify them. Measureless means that whose depth cannot be measured. The river would then go down into such caves. Humans cannot measure those depths.
And in the end he says that the river meets the sea and is sunless.
In those depths it meets the sea.
And sunless means where sunlight cannot reach. In such depths, the poet here describes the Elf River.
This is an imaginary river which the poet calls the sacred river.
You will not find this river on the world map.
He calls this river secret that there it was called Holy and Divine River. And right there, when this river was the source of the river, it used to disappear into very deep caves.
Such caves were bottomless whose depth could not be measured.
This river flowed through such caves and without sunlight, it is said that sunlight could not reach those deep caves. Where it meets the sea. It seems so.
So the poet wants to say that where he ordered the construction of the Pleasure Dome, there also flowed a river whose name was El and this holy river was Sacred Mes Holy.
This river passes through many big caves on its way and those caves were very deep.
Their depth cannot be measured by humans.
And in the end this river which is disappeared disappears into a dark sea where sunlight cannot reach.
Then he says so twice 5 miles. Now 5 miles means 5 miles. Twice means two times i.e. 10 miles. It is said that there was also a fertile ground spread 10 miles long around that palace. There was very fertile ground around that palace. The ground was spread over approximately 10 miles.
Which was very fertile. Fertile means there are flowers there, there are trees there. All these things show that it is a very fertile ground. And after 10 miles, walls are built again and forts are also built inside them.
Towers are built on the corners of the walls that are built all around. There are tall watch towers.
And these walls and towers are surrounded by girdles. Are surrounded.
Surrounding his palace. This is how St. Calves describes it. It is said that his palace is spread over 10 miles and has very rich and protective fertile land all around and after that protective boundary walls are built and on the edges there are tall structures, boss towers, in which people stand and keep watch from all sides towards the outside of his palace.
These walls girdled his palace from all sides. This girdle, as you know, is the same as the girdle that is worn around the waist of children.
So those same walls surround that palace from all sides. This is called ST collar. And the land there is very fertile for 10 miles.
So around the Pleasure Dome, there is very fertile land for 10 miles around that same pleasure palace.
And that beautiful area which has fertile land where there are trees, plants, flowers, is surrounded from all sides. There are high and strong walls and towers are built on the corners.
In that palace, they then call it Hairbur Gardens.
Now look, he talks about that fertile land.
What is there inside the palace? says Hairber Gardens. There are very beautiful gardens here and they are bright. They are very bright and have flowers etc. in them. And sinus sinus means curved. There are winding rails. There are small streams of water. There are streams. There are small waterfalls type. Small streams of water.
Just like there is a big river, small streams of water flow here and there from it. So in his garden he says that he has a very beautiful garden. And there are streams of water flowing here and there in a winding manner in that garden. And right there in the middle, there are many incense fragrant flowers blooming. The trees are bearable, they are holding them. Incense Fragranting Flowers. Now you must have understood how beautiful the garden is which is described by Pestikol. It is said that the garden inside that palace is a beautiful cultivated ground, in those gardens small winding streams are flowing and flowers are blooming there. All the trees have fragrant smelling flowers blooming on them. They say so.
That means there is a very beautiful atmosphere inside that palace.
So the poet wants to say that there were beautiful gardens. There are very beautiful gardens inside that palace and small streams of water are flowing in that garden and very beautiful fragrant flowers are hanging on the trees. Are in bloom. It seems that the air there has become very fragrant. The poet says that there are very beautiful gardens in which small streams of water flow in a crooked manner.
In those gardens there were many fragrant flowering trees which were full of flowers and their sweet fragrance was spreading in the entire atmosphere.
This made the entire place look beautiful and enjoyable like heaven.
That palace was so beautiful.
Then the poet says and here was a forest where there were dense trees like a forest and that forest was so old, those trees looked so old, like the hills there, the trees looked as old as the hills, they looked like forests too and notice the infolding sunny spots, it was such at many places that sunlight was reaching, in the middle of that greenery, dense green forest, such a point says. Now he tells that there were forests there also. There were also very dense trees. Large areas were covered with trees where there were a lot of trees. It was like a forest and those trees looked very old.
Those trees surrounded that palace from all sides, Sunny Spots. But sunlight was also reaching some places where the trees were light.
And that palace was surrounded on all sides by green vegetation created by these trees.
That palace was so beautiful. The poet says that those forests looked very old and ancient. They looked as old as the hills there.
And these forests surrounded that beautiful palace from all sides and sunlight was also scattered all around. The poet says that there were very old forests there which were as ancient as the mountains. In between these dense forests, there were beautiful green fields shining in the sun. The poet has tried to create an image of the scene shown in this poem. So these images are showing that the scene was extremely peaceful, beautiful and picturesque. The view of the palace was very peaceful and beautiful and was very attractive to the mind.
Then the poet says, but oh that deep romantic caesar, understand this, Bailey says in a way that there are valleys nearby, in a very deep imaginary mistake, a little mysterious way, there was a valley which went slantingly downwards, down the green hill, that hill where there was a lot of greenery. There were lush green trees. It was going downwards.
And then he says Athwood, it means from one side to the other. There were cedar trees spread all around. The cedar trees that grew all around that hill were spread out. Now see, the poet is describing the scene around that same palace. And there is a lot of surprise. He says but oh the expression of surprise and wonder was so beautiful. There I looked to one side and saw a very deep ditch. What is this? Chasm.
I saw that there was a very deep drain on one side. It was Bailey. There was a very deep ditch. And they call the trench romantic. And in the Romantic Age, romantic meant that she was very mysterious. She was beautiful and full of imagination. Romantic poetry also has this characteristic. This is what is called romantic in the romantic age. So seeing that, the poet gets very surprised after seeing that valley. It is said that there was a very deep sea edge, deep narrow valley, a very deep ditch. And it had a very steep downward slope. Absolutely Steep says. It was slanted and it is said that there was forest across it from one side to the other and all the cedar trees were growing there all around, that is, there was a dense forest of cedar trees in that valley.
So suddenly the poet notices and so he says oh he sees that there is a very deep mysterious valley. I don't know how deep it is and its slope is formed and there are lush green trees on that hill and the trees growing on it are a forest of Devagar trees in a way. So suddenly the poet's eyes fall on a very deep, mysterious and enchanting abyss. Bailey falls on the valley.
This valley slopes downwards through the lush green hills.
And there are dense cedar trees all around it.
This view is very beautiful. At the same time it is giving a feeling of romanticism. It is also giving a feeling of mystery and imagination that it was so beautiful. If you have ever been to the mountains and have seen a valley on one side with very tall trees in it, then you also feel the same. He says it seemed as if there was a very dense forest here. Sebej means wild and it means built and gives a feeling like a jungle. That is, the trees there gave the feeling of a forest. There were so many dense trees. Along with this, Holi was also there because a holy river was flowing there, so the feeling of Holi was coming and a little magical feeling was also coming. Everything is magical, everything is enchanting. Everything is pulling towards itself. I was also having such a feeling.
And says humble a waning moon.
You know, when there is a full moon night, after that the moon slowly wanes every night, so that waning moon, now in those nights the moon was slowly waning and we saw that there was a woman who was hated by a woman, it was believed that she used to come there and I saw her, she was crying, she was expressing grief for her lover, for that lover it is called demon, it is called devil and devil does not only mean demon, it can also mean demon. Because everything here was inherently magical. She was crying for that divine lover, for that demon-like lover.
One of these daemons could be a minx. There was a woman there whom I saw and she was crying for her lover.
Because all that is a mistake. I do n't know who her lover is. So Bolt refers to him as Demon.
Demon means such a demon. You know, ghost type. So the poet tells that there were trees all around, there was a forest, they were giving a feeling like a forest.
Those trees were so dense but at the same time a feeling of purity and a magical feeling was also coming. It seemed there was some witchcraft going on here too. Now that night was such that it is called waning moon, the moon was gradually decreasing. It was getting smaller.
And on that night it was believed that spirits, ghosts etc. also visit there. He also came to the areas around that palace and saw that a woman was crying loudly and expressing her grief.
She was expressing grief for her lover.
And try calling him a demon lover, the poet creates a super natural atmosphere. He describes him as a bad demon so that a supernatural atmosphere can be created in this poem.
So this place, as the poet says, is like a very wild forest. Looks a little scary.
Looks like a magical type. But at the same time I say it is a little sacred too.
Because River Health flows here.
It looks like there is a palace where the moon is slowly setting at night and a woman is crying. Her voice is coming and it seems as if she is crying for some mysterious lover.
So in the poet's view, this place which is the palace, the place around the palace, is a little frightening. It is going to give a jungle like experience. It's a bit mysterious. At the same time he also feels that it gives a feeling of purity and it seems that some magical supernatural things are involved here. The atmosphere there seems so mysterious to the poet that he feels that on that night of the waning moon, some woman is crying. Her voice is coming and she is crying over the separation from either her divine or demonic lover because all those things are supernatural. And both Divine and Ah Demonic are supernatural characters. Are related to supernatural things.
So he says that she is crying in the memory of some lover because it is Holi, so it has become a little divine and it is fear-inducing, everything is wild, so they call it demonic, there is a person connected to her for whom she is expressing her love and she is crying in his memory, so the scene which is created by this, the scene which is created by the poet, it creates a mysterious fear and at the same time it creates a super natural atmosphere and the POs of ST College are known for its super natural atmosphere.
Then the poet says and from this this is the valley Valley.
After this he looks forward to the ceaseless, never-ending continuous turmoil seething. Turmoil means commotion. If you look very carefully then it says that when I looked beyond this valley, when I moved ahead, I saw a lot of things and the description of what I saw is given by it, it says that I saw turmoil, a lot of turmoil, a lot of disturbance and such a disturbance which was ceaseless and was never going to end and it says that if you understand the meaning of turmoil seesing, then it is boiling, boiling because it is important to tell you its literal meaning. After that we will also see its literary meaning.
We also saw something boiling there.
It seemed as if on this earth, in these fast thick plants, these dense forests, everything seemed alive.
You are breathing in this forest. Sorry plants are not painted. Pent means half. Painting means half.
Fast thing painting but breathing, it seemed as if this earth was breathing, it seemed as if this earth was alive, it was breathing, we felt like this there and right there we saw a very big mighty powerful fountain which was coming out from the ground, fountain as you call it, it was coming out from there with a lot of power upwards in that valley, it tells that ahead of that valley, now poet pay attention, first let us see these word meanings. Ceaseless means continuous. Turmoil means turmoil. Where a lot of disturbance is created.
Seeding means boiling.
And pantes means panting, breathing heavily. Mighty Powerful Fountain The same fountain water source from which water flows.
And momentarily again and again continuously.
Now look, he says that in that deep valley I saw a very powerful fountain which was bursting out and water was coming out from there and water was coming out continuously, it seemed as if the earth was breathing very loudly, it seemed to me as if the earth was alive and was struggling with a lot of energy, with a lot of energy, the border which was coming out from that fountain. The poet says that from within that mysterious ditch a huge and powerful stream of water would burst forth loudly again and again.
It seemed as if the water would sometimes flow higher and sometimes lower from that fountain, and it seemed as if the earth itself was alive and was breathing deep and fast.
And the strong energy within the earth is coming out in the form of an explosion. On top of that, the infinite power of nature makes the earth alive and the earth is full of mysterious energies. The poet presents such a picture.
Then the poet says amidst all those things, who is half intermitted, who is swift, very quickly, fast, half intermitted, best half intermitted means stopping in between, that is, repeated with short pauses, it is written stopping in between, slowly, huge fragments, fragments of rocks, which was a fountain, which was a source of water coming out from below, big pieces of stones were also coming out of it, and they were jumping high and going up in the sky, it seemed like rebound, rebound means to bounce, bounce back, bounce back hail, you must have seen hail which is frozen rain, it falls when it rains, it is called hail in English, like when big hailstones fall, during the rain, they fall on the ground, then bounce and go up. The poet creates a similar image.
And he says that it seemed as if wherever that huge fountain was coming out, big pieces of rocks were also jumping up along with it. They were bouncing far and wide in the air.
And their jumping seemed like this to us.
Like simply uses figures of speech. He said that their jumping in the air looked as if hailstones were hitting the ground and bouncing all around. It seemed like such a scene was happening.
So through this scene the poet tells Subah that nature has amazing powers.
Nature has explosive power. There is infinite power. The poet presents such a picture.
Then the poet says, O Shafi grain, win the thresher's plate. Now this is the image which you have to understand.
Shaf, you must have understood that the husk on paddy etc. is separated. The husk that is on the grain is attached to the husk. You must have seen on the paddy, the rice comes out well, there is a cover on it and it is said Shafi grain, like the husk that is on the grain, the cover that is on it, is said to be win the thresher's flail. When it is threshed, it is taken out. Flail means to flail, that is, after threshing, separate the seed and separate the cover on it. This is what happens. Flail, when the thresher flails and separates it, he separates the rice, separates the cover on top and says, and made, the dancing rocks in between them. These rocks, small rocks, are seen dancing. Once and ever, he continuously says, these rocks are jumping.
Big stones are seen jumping up along with that waterfall. What the poet means to say is that where that fountain has burst, along with that fountain, the chaff is separated from the grain.
Just like that, huge pieces of rocks are flying in the air. Like when we thresh, plough, separate the grain from its chaff, the grains jump and fall here and there.
And this is what the thresher means, if we look at the time of the poet, there was no thresher of today. It used to be done by hand. The grains were beaten with a very big stick and by beating it the grains were separated from their husk and in between it, it is said that the grains were continuously jumping up with that spring and it is said that while threshing, the grains and husk jump up due to the impact of the stick. In the same way, rocks are jumping here along with that fountain.
So this scene tells about the power of that earth, about its speed and shows the scene of the explosive energy hidden inside the earth and then says it flungs up movementally.
Those rocks, big pieces of stone are coming, they are jumping upwards and it is called the sacred river and this fountain is slowly getting converted into that sacred river and it is flowing ahead as a river, it is telling about the powerful fountain, it is repeatedly, again and again, momentarily, in a way, again and again, repeatedly, it is throwing those stones upwards and from there, that river called Alp, which is a sacred river, is formed and flows ahead through this fountain. This is telling. It is said that that mysterious powerful water source, that fountain, that sacred river bursts forth again and again with great speed and rises up. That means a lot of water starts coming out of that fountain. It seemed as if the river was emerging from the depths of the earth with immense power and energy, was being born. This scene is the amazing liveliness of nature and the earth also has creative power. There is the power to give birth. It shows this.
Because the fountain was coming from inside the earth.
Then he says that the river was flowing through crooked paths for 5 miles.
Medri means through zigzag paths.
The river was flowing through zigzag and crooked paths for 5 miles. And mess mees is maze. In a way, you can understand that the river was flowing in a twisting maze-like motion like this, like this, like this. It was visible for five miles and was flowing through the forests.
That river was flowing through the valleys. The same sacred river kept flowing.
After that she would reach the Cavens caves. Those caves which we cannot measure. The river then started flowing through such caves. The poet says that the Elf Sacred River flowed for five miles through winding paths in the forest and valleys, after which the river entered caves whose depths humans could not measure. That river started flowing in such depths.
Says and sent in tumult to a lifeless ocean. Then the poet says and after that she would disappear. The river would sink and disappear, all its noise would end, with a terrible commotion it would disappear into an ocean which was lifeless and very calm. It is said that the ocean is lifeless, it means that the ocean remains very calm.
In that calm ocean it would disappear. The river and mid- distanced, in the middle of this noise where the river was flowing, Kubla Khan also heard some ancient voices of his ancestors coming from a distance.
Now those ancestral voices were making professional predictions.
Informing about the coming war. Such a point says that the sacred river from where it was flowing and later it disappears into a lifeless sea, that is, into a calm sea, it joins it with full noise, ends with full noise and goes and joins the sea, then amidst the sounds of the same river, amidst the same disturbance, Kubla Khan is in his palace and he heard some strange sounds. Those voices seemed to him to be the voices of his ancestors who were announcing, predicting that he might have to face some wars in the future. The poet says that the Alp, the sacred river, with a great roar and tremendous speed, merges into a dark, silent and lifeless sea.
Amidst this terrible noise and commotion, Kubla Khan heard the mysterious voices of his ancestors. Those voices were predicting a future war.
Now the Poet says The Shadow of the Dome of Pleasure. Please pay attention. The shadow of the dome, the palace and the Anand Mahal that was built was visible somewhere in that river. It was visible somewhere in its waves. It was visible somewhere in its water. No waves were visible somewhere in the water of his river. So the poet says somewhere that the shadow of the Dome of Pleasure is the image of that delightful palace, its shadow floated midway on the waves.
His reflection was visible in the same river water.
Aware was heard the misled major from the fountain and the caves.
And the poet says that from there was coming that sound, the enchanting sound of the blissful palace, its shadow was visible in that holy river and from the same place was also coming the echoing sound of the fountain.
Mingled mixed sounds were also coming from that fountain. It is said that at the same place, the resonant sound of the fountain and the mysterious sounds coming from the caves, the melodies coming from the caves colliding with each other, the sounds coming from the flowing fountain were mingling and mixing with each other and a very sweet and enchanting music was being created. The sounds of flowing water, the sounds coming from the water flowing in the caves, all these sounds together were creating a very beautiful sound. She was creating sound. And the scenes of that palace were visible as shadows in the water of that river. This is what the poet says. The poet says The Reflection of the Placeado. The shadow, the reflection, the image of that delightful palace was visible in the water of that flowing river.
Because that river flowed near his palace and at that very place many sounds of the flowing river were coming. One was the sound of the fountain from where the stream of water was coming out from inside the ground. Then that river was flowing while sleeping in the caves. He had voices. All these sounds were blending into each other. It was getting mixed and a sound was being created which was very beautiful and the music harmony was looking sweet.
All those sounds were coming together into my ears like melodious music. It was like a miracle and it was like a rare miracle and such music was created by a rare device.
Such a sound may have been created by some musical instrument.
This melodious music was created which seemed like a miracle.
Rare means rare memory and this palace which was visible in front of us seemed to be a very rare creation.
This palace and that scene seemed very divine, this palace and this picture were created by some gods. This is the scene that I could see all around me. On one side was the Pleasure Dome. That was Anand Mahal.
Saturn where the sun was spread.
Sunlight reached easily. There were also caves nearby in which ice was frozen.
So this contrast shown says that it seemed as if it was a palace created by some gods or a scene created by them. This is how the poet feels. The poet says that the entire scene looked like an extraordinary miracle, a miracle which was unexpected and not expected.
That pleasure dome was shining, sunlight used to come there. It was shining in the sunlight. There were caves nearby where ice was accumulated.
So this scene seems like a miracle to Poet. Anand Mahal was shining in the sunlight. Whereas beneath it were cold and mysterious caves made of ice. This is what the poet says. So the poet wants to show that beauty and mystery, light and darkness are the contrast. All these contrasting elements of warmth and coldness are coming together to create a very supernatural, divine and wonderful world.
It was because of Kubla Khan's imagination and romanticism that he built such a palace.
So it was a huge attraction.
Then he says there is a dame there is a beautiful lady who was playing Dal Simar. It is a musical instrument. If you see the introduction lecture, I have explained to you there what a dull simr is like in a way that she was playing a musical instrument.
And he says, I saw such a divisive scene that there was a very beautiful lady. She was playing a musical instrument.
I saw him playing a musical instrument.
And he says she was an Abyssian maid.
Abyssian means Ethiopia.
Ethiopia is a country in Africa. Its ancient name is Abyssinia.
So he says that lady from Ethiopia was looking like that to me. And while she was playing her Dal Simer musical instrument, she was also singing along and her song was about Mount Abora.
That Mount Abora is a fictional mountain she was singing about. The poet uses such imaginative things in his poem so that a little mistake can come into the atmosphere. So the poet sees a beautiful lady in his dream who he describes as looking like she was from Ethiopia and she was singing a very divine song. The poet tells about another scene and says that I saw a scene in which there was a beautiful young girl who was from Abinia. She was from Ethiopia. She was playing her Dull Simmer music instrument. She was also singing a song about Mount Abora.
So in that dream the poet sees a beautiful young woman. She was playing a musical instrument called a dulcimer in her hand.
Singing sweetly about the beauty of Mount Abora.
Through this scene the poet wants to tell that music and imagination take man to such a divine world where one experiences the wonderful beauty, joy and creative power.
So this lady who was singing is a symbol of poetic inspiration and a symbol of imagination. She was singing a very sweet song.
Poet says after waking up he says I can't remember his words.
His music was very melodious. His words were very sweet. I wish I could remember it so that my poem becomes more musical, powerful and filled with divine inspiration.
When the poet is writing he says could I revive I wish I could see all those things again to remember what she was singing. I wish I could remember what she was singing again.
Revive means to remember again. He says, I wish I could remember again about whom that lady was singing the song.
What were the words of his song? I wish I could remember all these things again, that symphonic melodious music of hers and the lyrics of her songs, then the song I would write, Deep Delight, she is singing with so much happiness.
So he says it would be. I wish I could get those things back. If I can experience that joy again, then the song I write will also be like divine inspiration. It would be much better. The poet says that he wishes he could remember again what kind of beautiful music the lady was playing and what words were in the song she was singing.
He will remember all these things again. If he remembers all these things, this inspiration will fill him again with immense joy and inspiration.
Then the song he writes will also be very powerful.
Here the song of the young woman is not just a song but the poet sees it as divine inspiration. There is creative power in his songs.
If the poet remembers it, then the poem he is composing will also get a lot of creative power. And under Poet a genius he will compose a poem.
Then he says that with music loud and long.
His music was very loud. There was a ringing in his ears for a long time. And under the same music, I will also compose such a poem. I will make such a dome. And notice that his music was creating a very beautiful scene, a very beautiful atmosphere there.
When that lady was making music. But the poet says that after listening to her music, just like that lady had created a very beautiful sweet atmosphere with that music, inspired by her music, I too will write a very important and very sweet poem. That's what he thinks. So he says that with music loud and long.
I would build that dome in air. The poet has full faith. He says that if he could get the power inspiration of that young woman's sweet music again, the music was very loud.
She was singing for a very long time. So the poet also says the same thing in his imaginary world, not in real life, but in the imaginary world, I would build. I will make it too. I can create a similar Dome, a similar beautiful, grand and enjoyable palace in my imagination. And then I can show it in this poem through pictures.
That poem, that song and the music that was being sung and played by that lady. I wish I could remember that loud and long music again, it would fill me with divine inspiration and I could create a similar delightful palace in my imagination. I can create. This is what the poet says. So the poet feels that if he can recall the power that the lady had in her beautiful music, then he can also create an equally magnificent palace in his imagination. The poet believes that great poetry is born only from divine inspiration and that the Lady's song and her music are symbols of divine inspiration and are born from the power of imagination. If he finds that song, its words and music again, and remembers them again, then the poet too can create a wonderful and immortal creation like the delightful palace of Kubla Khan through his poetry.
Which is this poem that you are reading. It says The Sunny Dome, pay attention, that Pleasure Dome of Kubla Khan, there sunlight was spread all around and what was there on the other side were caves where it was extremely cold, as cold as ice, this contrast is possible only with divine inspiration, only gods can make it, this is not something in the power of common man, only gods can make such a wonderful combination of opposite things possible. So the poet says, he imagines, he says that I too want to build a pleasure dome with the same beauty, I want to fill this poem of mine with the same mysteries and all this is possible through the power of imagination, through the power of divine inspiration which I was seeing and hearing in that lady's song, so the poet imagines that through his infinite imagination, he will build a pleasure palace, a pleasure dome, through this poem of his and he can make the mysterious ice-like caves beneath it, such dreams come true.
Exactly the same opposite sources can give to this poem of his.
But the poet believes that only a great poet can create such a world through the power of his imagination.
Can compose such a poem. Which is more beautiful, mysterious and amazing than the real world. This is beyond the reach of an ordinary poet.
This is possible only when he has divine inspiration, the lady who was singing, he says divine inspiration point and says all heard should see them there, whoever heard it there, he says her song for that lady, along with that he also says that from today onwards, whoever will read my poem, whoever will hear about it, whoever will read about it, they should be able to see those images clearly and just like I felt after listening to the music and song of that lady, people will feel the same after reading my poem.
And all should cry be weird. Everyone will shout loudly. Be careful, be careful. This poet has divine inspiration. This is not an ordinary poet.
Look at their flashing eyes. Look at this poet's floating hair. Poet's Everything about it is Divine. Everything is divine.
And Bive a Circle Around Him.
Stand around it in a circle three times and close your eyes.
Close your eyes with holy dread. Like we remember God and fear God a little. Similarly, this poet has divine inspiration. So understand a little from this because there is a part of God in it. There is a need to be a little afraid of this. This fear is not like that. This is only because there is some divine inspiration. If someone has the element of God then one has to be careful of him. He is to be feared. Do not do any unholy act in front of him. He says that it seems that this poet has consumed Honey Dew, that divine nectar, he has fed on it, eaten it, drank it and this Milk of Paradise, this Milk of Paradise, this Honey Dew are symbols of this divine food, both are symbols of the same nectar, symbols of the food and drinks of those gods.
It seems that this poet has consumed those substances and has received divine inspiration.
We can see that divine inspiration in its songs.
Everyone who reads this poem in the future will say this.
Now pay attention to what the poet says. He says everyone would be amazed.
Everyone will be surprised. The poet says that my creation will be so amazing that people will be amazed to see its talent.
He says that two feelings will arise in people's minds: fear and respect.
People will not only respect the poet but will also feel reverence and wonder towards him because of his extraordinary power.
This surprise will give a feeling of fear because I will have divine qualities. Then he says super natural powers, he says magical powers in my poem.
And he says that the poet, through his imagination and creative power, will create such a poem which will attract everyone.
And it uses two terms, one is Honey Dee and the other is Milk of Paradise. So I told you that these two are symbols of the food and drink of the gods. Both are related to heaven. Honey you know Honey Dew. It is said that this honey dew is a symbol of divine knowledge, joy and God's inspiration. The Milk of Paradise is a symbol of nectar which is a symbol of immortality. It is a symbol of divine power and a symbol of God's grace. After all these things people will feel that this poet has divine inspiration. I have received the blessings of the gods. That is why its imagination and inspiration are different from others. This gave birth to extraordinary poetry.
This is how it will feel in the future when people read this poem.
So the poet says that if only he could create such a beautiful poem, if he could show this scene very well in his poem then every person would be surprised. People felt that after reading my poetry, they felt both fear and respect.
Because they started feeling that this poet had supernatural powers which he had obtained only with the blessings of the God.
This poet has such inspiration.
People will feel this way when they read my posts and I wish I could do that. He says, "They would believe that in the times to come, after reading my poem, 'That He Had Tasted Heavenly Food,' people will believe that I have eaten the food of the gods." And Divine Nectar I have also consumed the nectar that the gods drink. That's why I am different from ordinary people. I am different from ordinary poets.
This is what the poet says.
People will feel this way in the future.
So the poet says that if he can create such a wonderful and supernatural scene through his poetry then everyone will be astonished.
They will look at him with fear and respect because people will feel that he has some divine supernatural power. They will also believe that he has tasted the sacred food of heaven, Honey Dew and the nectar Milk of Paradise. Therefore he has become not an ordinary man but a great poet related to divine inspiration.
People will feel this way in the times to come. The poet believes that no great poem is composed through ordinary inspiration.
For that God's blessings are needed.
Divine inspiration is needed.
Because only the creation made through divine inspiration can fill people with miracles. It may surprise you. And may consider the poet to have supernatural powers. Supernatural powers are the same supernatural powers that the poet has.
And this happens only when God inspires someone. Only then does the poet give birth to such a creation.
St. Collis thinks so.
So dear friend, I explained this poem to you line by line. I hope you understood it. So thank you friends. Thank you very much.
