Former IMF Executive Director Surjit Bhalla argues that the widely cited claim of India being the 'fastest growing economy' is factually incorrect, and warns that such misleading narratives can create political complacency, as electoral dominance may lead ruling parties to believe they don't need to address economic challenges since voters have no viable alternatives.

Surjit Bhalla Slams “Fastest Growing Economy” Claim | India Growth Debate Heats UpAdded:
First of all, the fastest growing economy, I mean, it's just factually incorrect. And we should, you know, uh it doesn't help either the government or anybody else that we are continue to say we're the fastest growing economy when we are not. Then we come to the electoral dominance and that is a well-earned the BJP has earned has got remember this we are democracy people are voting for the BJP.
So this is something that they should be very proud of that people are willingly going out and voting for them.
Fantastic.
Now we come to the problem. What I think is a problem. Maybe the fact that the BJP is winning practically every election and is popular and is popular with the people, maybe that has lulled them into a comfort zone >> that they don't believe or they don't think that they have to do anything for the economy because who else are the people going to vote for? So this is also a if you will a condemnation of the opposition that the people don't think that the opposition has anything to offer.
