UW community mourns death of student Juniper Blessing as memorials grow on campusAdded:
The impact of losing a fellow student rippling throughout the U-Dub campus as growing memorials in Red Square and outside the Nordheim Court Apartments honored 19-year-old Juniper Blessing.
Even though like I'm not directly involved, I just feel like a lot of emotions towards it, like a lot of sorrow, a lot of like empathy towards everybody involved. Just the fact of, you know, kind of where do we go from here? What do we do? Blessing, who is transgender, was found dead Sunday night with more than 40 stab wounds. Days later, these images of the suspect were released and he turned himself into police shortly after. For now, a motive and whether the murder was targeted or random remains unknown. As loved ones wait for answers, Blessing's family shared in a statement, "Juniper was simply the most amazing human being we have ever known. Highly intelligent, extremely talented, and deeply sensitive to the needs of others.
Juniper's loss not only devastates us, but diminishes the world." The family also sharing Blessing was a gifted singer who spent summers working at the Santa Fe Opera. The organization told KOMO News, "At a moment when conversations around identity, dignity, and humanity are so present in our communities and broader culture, the loss of a young life filled with promise and artistry is felt especially deeply.
Sing free, Juniper. You will not be forgotten."
