WJUX-FM 99.7 Monticello & W276AQ Fort Lee (New York) - Chuck Leonard - June 18 1999 -Radio Aircheck
Added:Hia, welcome to LSB Feasters radio channel where we keep great radio from the past alive. And today we're featuring a New York City radio legend, Chuck Leonard. Chuck worked at several radio stations in New York from 77 WABC, WWRL, WJUX, WBLS, and 98.7 Kiss in New York. Chuck was smooth and Chuck was cool. And Chuck was also the first black DJ ever on WABC. Dan Ingramman had heard him over on WWRL and thought he'd be perfect on WABC. Went to management, went to Chuck, brought him together. Chuck was interested, but Chuck said, "I'm not going to be anybody's experiment." And he wasn't. And he did very well all those years. He was on WABC. Let's check him out now. The one and only Chuck Leonard, as he would say, the best that ever did it and got away with it. Let's check him out now. It's Chuck Leonard playing the classics on WJUX.

Hi everyone, I'm Dick Bartley. Welcoming you to a very special radio event. The 35th anniversary celebration of the British invasion. An event that forever altered the look, the sound, the subject matter, and the status of rock and roll music in American society. A magical period when history was written, legends were made, and some of the greatest rock music of all time was recorded.
Brought to you by Nestle Ice Cream. Try a Nestle drumstick. It starts great and keeps getting better. And by Mazda Cars and Trucks. Mazda. Get in. Be moved. The British invasion is a term which refers to that two or three-year period of time in the mid 1960s when the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Dave Clark 5, and dozens of other English groups and performers invaded, redefined, and dominated the American pop record charts. By late 1963, American popular music had become a mishmash of pop diddies, novelty songs, dreary ballads, and even number one records performed in French and Japanese.
[Music] The powerful original authentic rock and roll music of founding fathers like Chuck Barry, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and the Everly Brothers was long gone from top 40 radio airwaves of the day. American pop music was ripe for a revolution and the rebellion began in the persons of four young men from Liverpool in the north of England.
