Mortal Kombat II underperformed at the box office with $44.9 million domestic and $26.1 million international (total $71 million), falling short of the $200-220 million needed to break even on its $80 million budget, though it is not as severe a flop as The Marvels, which lost hundreds of millions despite a $200+ million budget.

Mortal Kombat II Flopping at the Box Office in looking similar To Look Like Brie Larson The MarvelsAjouté :
Mortal Kombat is a project that really didn't need multiple sequels.
Really, let's just be honest. And the second film in this franchise is almost a disaster. I will say this, the numbers don't look good for it. In fact, getting into the second weekend and I won't think this film will break [music] even.
It's in fact being compared now to The Marvels, Brie Larson's The Marvels.
Remember that film was one of the biggest flops of all time, not even just for the MCU. It's already the biggest flop in the MCU uh history of films, but like all-time records for like big-budget films uh versus what they generated, The Marvels was one of the worst flops in the history of cinema.
And now we are looking at Mortal Kombat part two.
The only difference here is that Mortal Kombat part two cost way, way less compared to The Marvels. So, it's understandable. This movie has only generated about let's just say if I add today's numbers, it will be around $40 million domestic. Actually, the official numbers as of yesterday was $38.5 million in in the United States.
It is still not a good enough um opening for a project. Now, it's as of Tuesday, apologies, it's actually at $44.9 million domestic right now. So, uh it's not even close to $50 million.
So, it's actually at $44.9 million right now.
Uh maybe by today, once they add the numbers for for the for this second Friday for the film, it might be closer to $50 million.
But even at that, it's not It is not looking good. The international numbers also is not that good. It is uh least it it's at 26.1 million as of yesterday. But even at that, that's international numbers don't even look like it's going to save the film.
The total is around 71 million dollars.
The problem is not just the so-called numbers it has now. It's the overall impact in the coming weeks cuz it's already slated to drop 60% and above and it will be around 15 million dollars this weekend. So, it's not looking good. And the movie cost 80 million dollars. So, it needs around 200 million to 220 million dollars to at least look like breaking even.
And with that being said, this film does not look like it will get close to that. Look, Mortal Kombat 2 is not going to make its money back.
I don't see it getting to 200 million dollars when it's all said and done. But it's not as big as a flop as people are making it out to be. It will lose money, but it's not the biggest flop even right now. The Marvels had an incredible budget of over 200 million dollars and only made 206 million at the box office. So, that movie lost hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars for Disney. So, that's a very very bad comparison in many ways because even if this film loses, let's say 30 or 40 million dollars for the studio, it's nowhere compared to The Marvels. Brie Larson's The Marvels, that was a major Titanic disaster at the box office. So, at the end of this weekend, I'll cover the box office most likely Monday for you guys.
