This analysis masterfully deconstructs the genre-bending architecture of the score, revealing how sophisticated musical synthesis can articulate complex existential themes within a character parody. It provides a compelling professional lens that elevates game music to the level of serious academic discourse.

Studio Musician Reacts | Guilty Gear Strive OST: Robo-Ky Theme: Breath
Added:[music] [music] >> Interesting, interesting first part actually.
A little bit of a chorus effect.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> A little bit of creepiness.
Bro, bro.
This freaking song is savage, already. I really liked it and when I first saw this character design, it reminded me of robot Naruto. I don't know if that's the name or if any of you played Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series of games, we had a robot Naruto. So, I think that's kind of the gimmick here, you know? A robot parody of key of Kai. Although Kai doesn't wear a suit, right? I'm talking about this robotic parody.
I thought that the guitars just before the verse These ones, yeah.
Sounds a little bit like the cliche of terrifying, you know?
They're not super scary, of course, but it makes that sound as if this was the Frankenstein monster made by someone. But, like this is that sort of creation. And that little melody there remains on the verse, which is very interesting. I also enjoyed a lot the lead guitar on the intro, bro. A little bit back in the mix, a little bit of chorus effect, some frequencies cut, interesting. And actually, since the song and everyone character theme has insane lyrics, let me change the video.
And since Cloud drop, I don't know, stopped doing the videos, the lyric videos, let's go with Kam and Booker. He's always reliable, man.
Oh, yeah, the hits.
Yeah, this is more like it, right?
Lovely riff.
Okay.
What?
>> [screaming] >> Ooh, hoo, hoo, damn.
Wait, what?
What the heck?
>> [laughter] [music] >> Oh.
>> [music] >> What the heck?
>> [music] >> Bro, this is quite deep.
Deepish.
>> Wait, which way?
>> What was that? That was beautiful, bro.
With those triplets, that a bam, a little bit I don't know, that makes the beat to to seem not as fast as it is. It's changing the pace for real. That little riff right there. And bro, the lyrics, I'm not sure what's happening, obviously, but especially because I thought this was like, yeah, parody, a parody character, not that serious character, but then we had a very existentialist part in the lyrics about someone that's looking and starting to realize who is him. At least he just began questioning who is him. But later on, I thought, well, maybe it's a parody because what the heck? Maybe my rage is a bug. I cannot take this man seriously. And then later again, we go with this self-knowledge thing again, you know? Besides, I was expecting the chorus to be a little bit more what? A little bit harder, a little bit more aggressive. It sounds a little bit transcendent. So, wow, this must be a very interesting character. And I I can guess that maybe this is not the first time we see. You let me know because you know I haven't been able to play the entire series of Guilty Gear, but it wouldn't be a surprise. Lots of these guys, or maybe every one of them have already been in previous games.
Actually, let me know what are the Strive exclusive characters, right? That would be interesting.
>> Wait, which way? To the right.
Wrong turn.
>> Okay.
Bro, be serious.
A [ __ ] bolts in the middle of the song.
>> [music] >> Uh-huh.
Look at the same face.
No need to ask.
It's like he's trying to paint, bro.
Look at this.
Double barrel is insane.
Zato has three legs, bro.
And I'm not talking about his genitals.
>> [music] [music] >> How can someone's prayer stitch the heart of a robot, bro?
>> [music] >> Yes, sir. The triplets of Those hits are insanity, bro.
>> No, the other way.
>> A little bit of samba.
A little bit of Irish and or folk.
>> Okay, I don't hate it.
>> Oh, okay.
>> [music] >> Well, that was actually pretty dope.
>> [music] >> This actually reminds me a little bit of What's his name, bro? Another insane character. He looks really crazy.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, like Happy Chaos. I had to actually look it up on my channel, but a Happy Chaos where his theme is actually quite insane as well.
And also have a 3/4 or 6/8 Don't remember right now. Gimmick into it. So, this is that kind of character. Kind of evil character that's not necessarily evil, but don't give a [ __ ] about anything. I like that. I like that. And these type of characters work very well as a canvas to blend insane and and uncommon elements of music. Especially in Guilty Gear Strive, right? I haven't listened to another bossa nova and or samba uh piece or pirate-esque. The inclusion of that flute was genius.
on the pirate.
Lovely, lovely.
A little bit of protagonism for the bassist.
The same effect as in the intro.
Oh, that's the solo, bro. That's the solo, actually.
Guys, that was very interesting because generally, usually, in Guilty Gear Strive in I'm going to say at least in 95% of the songs, when we have a guitar solo or a keyboard solo, any kind of solo, but let's focus on guitar solos, the rhythm section has an unstable groove, an unstable rhythm going on there. But this time it's a little bit interrupted with those hits. But I think it's pretty dope and it shows you how the [ __ ] composer keeps getting newer ideas, building upon the already established concept he has, but he never fails to bring a little bit of creativity. Let's go.
Sir, I love piano interludes, bro. So emotional.
>> [music] >> Emotional into madness?
This is this character, bro.
>> [music] >> That's insane, bro.
That diminutive scientist.
>> [music] [music] >> I would say resents his creator.
>> [music] >> The pandering feels.
Ooh.
>> [music] >> You're not going all out, bro, in a kind of >> [music] >> jazzy background.
I mean, the activity from the pianist was a little bit jazzy. It reminded me a little bit of of the very early manifestations of jazz, just after the ragtime in terms of language, you know, a little bit of blues notes here and there. Lovely.
This is who I am.
Never lost. It's clear for him, bro.
>> [laughter] >> I love those chords, bro. Okay, yes, let me confirm because I thought that in the first part he says something about who is him, but in the other verses he's saying that there's no need to know who is him.
So, I want to know if I lacked attention in the first verse or if they are different.
>> [screaming] >> Ignorance.
Okay.
He will never ask. Interesting, man.
Maybe this song is actually about, bro, I don't have to go into a quest of self-knowledge and self-image. I don't care. I don't give a [ __ ] I have always known who or what I am, who made me. By the way, he resents him, the timid scientist, right? Or at the least is not mm completely agree with his ideals, I would like to say, but even though he can be a piece of [ __ ] a crazy maniac, he's at peace with that. Interesting.
Also interesting, I didn't catch a single Kai word. Yeah, a quarter of the Kai's theme. But, maybe there is. You let me know, guys. But, maybe that's the key.
Maybe that's the key and the clue in the music. It's not at all like Kai. Well, thank you very much for watching and hanging around. Have a blast of a freaking day, please. See you next time.
