Foreign residents in Japan share mixed experiences, with some feeling unwelcome due to assumptions they are tourists and political climate changes, while others observe that Japan's 'Japan First' movement and global phenomena like Donald Trump's influence are making society more reserved and less inclusive, though some note that increased diversity and more people like them are making Japan more welcoming.

How Foreign Residents Feel About Japan Right NowAdded:
I've never felt that I was never received at any place in Japan. I've always been treated with like love and kindness and because of that it makes me want to comply more and be more helpful around. Yeah.
You know, honestly, half the time I go about my day, I always assume that people think I'm just a tourist. You know, I I often get the, you know, English treatment when I go into shops and everything and I don't find because because of course you know, you might assume people are tourists.
Hearing about, you know, the political climate in Japan, I'm definitely starting to feel like foreigners are becoming less and less welcome, which is a shame because we've always had a presence here. So, I'm really hoping that it won't get much worse, but they're definitely seem to feel like there's something in the air these days.
To be honest, I haven't noticed any difference. I personally haven't noticed any difference. I can see both sides.
Uh, why it can it could be good, but why it can also be bad.
I I guess maybe they're focusing more on the quality over quantity. So, I can see why they're doing it and at the same time I can understand how hard it could be for people who have been building something for a long time. So, I think I can see both sides. Yes, uh, to an extent, but I I feel like, you know, I've been here a little while and I do feel like uh, maybe uh, manners or general interactions and things like that are changing. They don't They do feel a bit more reserved and uh, not necessarily inclusive but introverted in a way. This whole Japan first movement might be kind of changing that narrative. This whole Donald Trump phenomenon is is spreading around the world.
>> I'm a half Japanese, half American. So, I grew up being bullied. I didn't feel welcome growing up. There are more people like me more now. I think it's becoming more welcoming. There are more of us now. More of us now. We are beautiful. In Japan, cute wins, baby.
Cute wins.
