In biblical interpretation, passages must be understood within their full context rather than isolated verses. Isaiah 42:19 describes a 'blind and deaf servant' who 'does not observe' and 'does not hear,' which contradicts the historical and biblical description of Jesus, who was neither blind nor deaf. The NET Bible translation suggests the Hebrew word 'perfect' in this verse may actually mean 'covenant partner,' and the passage is better understood as referring to Israel's spiritual failure rather than Jesus. This demonstrates that proper biblical interpretation requires examining the entire passage and its surrounding context to avoid misinterpretation.

Led by the Holy Spirit.
Armed with a Bible, not a sword. [music and singing] Johnny Apologetics spreads the word of the Lord.
>> [singing] >> Praise and glory to God.
>> [singing] [music] >> Can I speak? Cuz I don't have enough time.
Okay, go ahead.
Yeah, I just want to prove that Jesus is God. Okay. I just want to Okay, Alkebu-lan, go ahead since you don't have much time. Go ahead, brother. We'll make a We'll make a We'll We will make a We'll make an exception for you. Yeah, thank you. We'll Thank you. We just appreciate you, man.
You're the man. All right, Alkebu-lan, what you got, man?
Well, you say Jesus not a Muslim, but I can prove in your own Bible Jesus is a Muslim.
>> Okay, go ahead.
>> [clears throat] >> I can't wait.
>> Okay.
Me, too.
>> So, go ahead, bro. I'm taking Listen, I'm taking notes. Go ahead. But listen, if you say something crazy and I can disprove it, you're going to catch one of these. I'm going to play the song and everything. I'm just letting you know.
All right, go ahead.
>> Isaiah Okay, actually you have to I think Isaiah is about Muhammad. I mean, I just think I just I think Isaiah is about Jesus, right? Fine, beautiful.
So, Isaiah >> Yeah, hold on, Alkebu-lan. Hold on. Hold on. First of all, Alkebu-lan start over and slow Hold on. Start over and slow down, okay? Okay. Real quick.
Now, right. Yeah, cuz you're you I know you guys try to sneak things in here, man. Slow down. We don't want I do dots in here, brother. Do you know what dots stands for? D O T S. Do you know what that means?
Maverick, I'm going to All right, thank you, brother. It's good to see you, man. God bless.
God bless. All right. Alkebu-lan, do you know what Do you know what dots is, brother?
Period. You talk about period. That's No, dots means dots means in here I disarm of the script, right? I don't allow people to just be motor mouthing and all this other crazy stuff. I want you to have a normal conversation, right? I got you. Now, what is Now, start from scratch. What is your position?
My position is I you say that Jesus is not a Muslim, so I want to prove you in your own Bible that Jesus is Muslim.
>> Which verse are we going to?
Well, we can go to uh Isaiah 42 chap chapter I mean verse 1 to 19. So, when you say >> Isaiah 42 verse 1 through 19?
Yes. Okay.
And what is it about >> that it's about Muhammad or something.
>> Oh, yeah.
Okay, cool. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hang on.
Hold on. Let me bring it I'm going to bring it up and I'm going to put it on the screen, all right? Yeah, I mean I don't you I don't memorize. Okay, the reason why you say my soul this and then the who is going to say Abdul. That is proof that Jesus is slave of Allah. Hang on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. What verse you want me to start from?
>> [laughter] >> If you read What I'm Don't worry Don't worry Okay, go to Go to the biblehub.com.
No, no, brother. I I'm already here. All right. So, now I'm on the NKJV. You said Isaiah 42:1-19.
What verse do you think is pointing toward Muhammad?
No, I'm not talking about Muhammad. This is about Jesus being Muslim. Okay, wait.
Wait. Okay, what verse do you think points at Jesus being Muslim?
Verse 19. 19? All right, cool. Yeah.
Let's go all the way to 19. I got it up on screen for everybody.
It says, "Who is blind but my servant or deaf as my messenger whom I send? Who is blind as he who is perfect and blind as the Lord's servant?" So, you think that this means that Jesus is a Muslim because it uses the term servant?
No, the reason why if you go to biblehub.com, the word is going to say perfect or you say al-saluma.
If you go in there, the word al-saluma is mean is someone who submit to one God, which means >> Wait. Wait. Wait. Which What? Which word?
>> Can I respond? Cuz I think I know the argument he's making. Yeah, go ahead, Johnny. Go ahead. Go ahead, Johnny.
Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Okay, hold on, brother, cuz you're First of all, you want me to go to Bible Hub because you're saying a one who worships one God. But I promise and guarantee you that's not what that means because the Torah talks multiple times about a multi-personal God. So, that's a complete lie, number one, okay? But go ahead, Johnny. Go ahead and go ahead and say what you got to say. Okay.
>> Yes.
He's essentially making Hold on, brother. He's essentially making the argument that um that verse in Isaiah 42:19 has a Hebrew word that's similar to the word Muslim. And if you read the all the commentaries on Bible Hub say that oh, it's similar to that.
Um but what the commentaries not saying is that this means that Islam is true or that Jesus was a Muslim. It's not insinuating that.
Now, when you read >> hold on, hold on. I'm not going to let him talk.
Okay, let it brother, you need to you need to let him Okay, you need to let him finish talking, brother.
>> I got him. I got him. Thank you. Go ahead, Johnny. Okay.
So, what the common Oh, excuse me, that's I already said that. Um now, the context of Isaiah 42 is about Jesus for the first nine verses, but then it starts talking about um the rebellious Israel and their destruction. The entire chapter is not about that same servant. He's talked about in verses 1 through 9. Then in verses uh 10 through 13, it gives a a kind of poetic song uh reflecting on what just was spoken about with the servant. Then it starts talking about Israel. So, when you when you ask is Isaiah about Jesus, partially yes, but not every single verse. Some of the verses talk about Israel's rebellion against God and his judgment on them, and that's what's spoken of in the latter portion of Isaiah 42. So, it's nothing to do with Jesus being Muslim.
Right. Mhm. Yeah, so what you did, Al Kid Well, no, no, no, he's done, but what you're going to do, Al Kid, is you're going to address that cuz I know what you guys do. You try to come in, you go to Isaiah, you you literally went to a word that you said it sounds the same, therefore it is, which is completely disingenuous because a word sounding the same Listen, there's words in Spanish and English that sound very similar, and they mean complete They don't mean anything the same. So, you guys need to stop doing this. You need to stop saying, well in that language it sounded like this so it must be talking about that that linguistically that doesn't follow and anybody who speaks more than one language, anyone who translates language will laugh at you in your face if you try to make those equivocations. So, do me a favor and address what Johnny said because you're talking about our prophecy but you're doing so thinking that this verse is talking about Jesus being a servant and then you want to me to go to Bible Hub and say that but the word for servant means a a servant of only one God which doesn't even follow cuz it's not even the same language. So, I want you to address that and only that.
Okay, give me the bigger screen.
>> Sure.
Yeah.
So, okay the brother say this word is not about Jesus if some part if you if you go back to first in the first is all about Jesus. He say when he say my service is the word Abdul. If you go on to here is my slave which means my brother.
>> disappeared. Yeah, your screen disappeared.
It's not that you got to just you should only take a position but I got you.
Don't worry. So, the word right here hold up.
The word is all Isaiah 19. The word right here Kaluma is about uh like you say as he is perfect. We know Jesus is perfect according to you guys.
So, it's it's about Jesus nobody else because nobody else is perfect except Jesus according everybody including us too. Then uh if you go over here perfect it mean in Arabic you can use the brown driving broad whatever they call it it means someone who submit to one God it can go to Ahmed the still submit to one God. So, >> okay so okay let's just say let's just say for for the sake of conversation let's just say that what you're saying is correct, right? Mhm. And Jesus submitting to one God, right? The problem is that your argumentation is based on the presupposition that we worship three gods.
And we don't.
We worship one god. So, what you're trying to do here is you're you are fallaciously trying to say And this is again me granting for the sake of conversation that your argumentation makes [clears throat] sense.
The Trinity is not three gods, brother.
Oh, okay.
Yeah. [laughter] If I can respond to him on something he said. Yeah, please go ahead. He said that this verse is not He said the verse is about Jesus. As I said >> He said about because he said he is perfect. We know nobody perfect except Jesus. Why he Let me respond to you and then you can >> Okay, go ahead. Let me finish.
You said >> But you remember that you lie, right?
Is it what?
Go ahead, Johnny. Go ahead.
>> [clears throat] >> Go ahead, Johnny. Speak. You said verse 19 is about Jesus. Yeah, because he said he is perfect because we know nobody else perfect. verses are about Jesus, but the latter portion is not. If you read the verse after verse 19, which I'm going to pull up and read right now, it says, "Seeing many things, but you do not observe, opening ears, but he does not hear." So, why is it talking about a blind and deaf servant? It's not about Jesus, it's about Israel who is God's servant according to Isaiah 41:8. And so, it's talking about how they don't observe his teachings. And you know about false gods. And I want to show And I want to show Yeah.
>> Are you saying that Hold on. Hold on.
I'll keep I'll keep cuz I want to show you something here, brother. I want to show you something here because what you're doing is disingenuous and I'm going to show you how. A a very simple Google search, right? According to Bible Hub and according to I'll give you the other ones in a second. Right here I said, "Is Isaiah Look it. Just because I want to show the audience, guys. This is how you actually find truth and then dig into the sources and see what the actual interpretation say."
Is Isaiah 42:19 about Jesus? This is the first thing that pops up. Isaiah 42:19 is a part of a passage discussing the servants of the Lord, but interpretation differs on whether it refers directly to Jesus or Israel. While Isaiah 42:1-7 describes a positive Messianic figure versus 18-20 depict a blind and deaf servant often interpreted as the rebuke of a national Israel's spiritual failure.
>> Amen. Amen.
>> So, the reason the reason that we're saying what we're saying to you is because you're coming in here again with a presupposition that Isaiah 42:19 is talking about Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is not was never blind or deaf, right? So, you are trying to look at the entirety of the passage and say this is about Jesus, but the actual interpretation for those who actually know how to read and identify the prophecy makes it clear that this was no longer speaking about the Messiah and the words blind and deaf should have been the indicators, my brother. Now you're off the app because you're trying to chat GPT your way out of this and it's only going to fail you more.
Exactly.
This is what Johnny's trying to tell you. He he he's he's >> no. If you go about the word it say he is perfect. So, are you saying that somebody else more perfect than Jesus because the word say he is perfect?
>> The verse says he is perfect. It does not say that, brother.
Come on, guys.
>> [laughter] >> Who is blind >> using chat GPT. I just use Bible Hub. It say he is perfect. And the word he is perfect it say just this means something to one God. So, how can you say another person more perfect than Jesus? So, is this another God then?
Can you read the verse, please?
>> Right. I'm about to.
>> Yeah, the verse say he is perfect, right? That's what it say, right?
for a biblical which Yeah, okay. Start from Isaiah chapter one. Can we start from there? Yeah.
>> Please. So, here. I'm Hold on. I'm going to I'm going to bring it up.
Al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda. Yeah. Turn Turn the motor in your jaw off, brother, okay?
Isaiah 42:19 is not calling the servant morally perfect in the way that you are trying to insinuate. The verse says, and I'm going to explain it to you. I want you to listen because you're getting absolutely cooked on this, all right? I think No, you are getting dog piled. You are getting dog piled, brother. You First of all, nobody says that this is about Jesus. It says, "Who is blind but my servant or deaf as my messenger whom I sent? Who is blind as the one at peace with me, blind as a servant of the Lord in 42:19, right?" Now, what we're going to do is we're going to look at the context of that because right before this, the servant is already identified.
"But you, Israel, my servant" in 41:8.
This is not talking about Jesus because it makes it clear that when it is now speaking, it is speaking about Here, you know what? Here, this is what I'm going to do for you. I'm I'm I'm going to do what you didn't bother to do, all right?
I'm going to do what you didn't bother to do. We're going to go back. We're going to go to I mean, if you go it's okay. It's not about Muhammad in the guy you say he Okay.
Who is it? Who is Who is it?
Brother brother I don't care about Muhammad. What does it say right there?
Go ahead. Read that.
It say, "But you, Israel, are my servant."
So now So now, we have identified that when it is speaking about the servant, who is it speaking about?
I mean, it's another person. It's prophet. It got to be somebody else then Okay, forget it. If you not about Jesus, then somebody else is Jesus.
>> [applause] >> OKAY. SO NOW SO NOW, WHEN YOU'RE talking about this, thank you for the concession and thank you for the honesty. I I mean You got to read things in context, brother. You got to read things in context. Is Isaiah 42 the beginning of it about Jesus? Yes. Are the later verses about Jesus? No. How do we know that? Because in the previous chapter, when God identified the servant he was speaking to, who is it that he was speaking to in speaking about that servant?
So that prophet the perfect servant, right? He's perfect, right? Oh my god.
I never went to the book that he was perfect, [laughter] right? So, it's not about you. It's about somebody else who's perfect.
But, you know what [laughter] Word.
Word. You go ahead. Johnny tried, he didn't listen. I tried, he didn't listen. Why don't you you you go ahead, bro. Go ahead. No, but I'm No, I'm asking who's this Who's the servant Hold on. Hold on, okay. Hold on. We'll we'll explain it to you again.
Okay? No, no. I understand what you guys say. I just want to know who's that Okay, okay. He's going to explain it to you. Go ahead. Relax. Go ahead.
All right, man. I just have to be real with you. Guys don't know what I'm talking about, man. We know what you're talking about, man. Relax.
Which Which version were you reading?
Which version of the Bible were you reading? He left.
He got cooked. He You know why he left?
This is why This is why right here. He knew he was wrong.
>> [music] [music] [singing] [singing and music] >> Bro came in here and was desperate to have a conversation where he got cooked, man.
You you No, I Um What are we doing?
What are we doing, guys? What? You can't read?
You can't read? You accuse Christians all the time of taking things out of context in the Quran and you say you don't read it holistically, but you didn't bother to go back one chapter to see who this was talking about.
Exactly. By the way, uh just really quick, he was saying that the word perfect there means the servant is perfect. No, it doesn't. That word is actually disputed among scholars, and you can read it in the NET translation, which has phenomenal footnotes. Yeah.
And they argue that the best rendering is my covenant partner or the one of my covenant, and it fits the parallel in the verse. Which verse? In verse 19.
Verse 19. Okay. So, it would So, this is the NET translation. My servant is truly blind. My servant is truly deaf. My covenant partner, the servant of the Lord, is truly blind. So, it it keeps the parallel of the of the verse, which is common in in scripture. You see the the parallel. Yeah. It's the same same thing in two different ways. Yeah.
Listen, Jesus is king, guys. And And here's Here's another part about that.
Let's say we didn't go back to Isaiah 41. Let's just say we stood on that, right?
If you want to focus on the word perfect, you have to encompass all of the descriptional language in that verse, right? So, if you're saying that something is perfect, but you're ignoring the part where it says he's blind and deaf.
Jesus was not blind or deaf historically, biblically, or quranically.
So, what are you doing?
Like the amount of dishonesty that you guys have get you the fourth every time. YOU SEE IT?
YOU WILL KEEP GETTING IT.
YOU WILL KEEP GETTING IT. THAT'S WHY HE RAN AWAY. He knew what was happening to him. Jesus is king, baby.
