Carroll’s critique of religious double standards effectively exposes how tribal loyalty often undermines intellectual consistency in moral debates. By challenging the "perfection myth," he forces a more honest conversation about the complex intersection of human fallibility and spiritual authority.

Can a personally ever lie morally?Hinzugefügt:
Let's say worst case scenario, Joseph did lie. Let say we had 50 bold-faced lies.
And it's like, does that disqualify him from being a prophet? Now, is it a good look? Not necessarily, right? We're not We're not condoning lying.
But we see in the historical record of God's prophets, them lying.
And so So, my question, as you can see here on the screen, all those individuals who were seen as morally good people, who in certain circumstances did lie.
Now, I don't think any rational person would deny that that you can lie in self-defense, right? Or if if you Jacob Hansen always uses the the Jews, you know, hiding the Jews and the Nazis are at the door. He always uses that, which is a good example.
Yeah, it's like you can in self-defense lie and be justified in doing so. Now, that may cause problems or you know, people may may you know, take that a mile when it's inappropriate to do so.
Um but my my concern is again, the double standard that they're looking at Joseph and saying, "Well, he lied.
Therefore, he's not a prophet or he's demonically inspired." It's like, "Okay, well, what about your prophets, who we also agree are prophets? Like, why are you using this standard of Joseph is not a prophet because of these reasons, and your prophets have the same problem, but when we bring that up, the most common answer that I get is, "Oh, that was 2,000 years ago." Literally, they've said that to me. That was a long time ago, so that doesn't matter. And it's like, "Okay, so in 2,000 years from now, is Joseph Smith's same issues going to matter?"
And it's like, in their minds, absolutely.
So, um yeah, I just think that that everyone needs to understand that whenever somebody, especially religious person, is criticizing your faith or your prophet or whatever, uh the question you have to ask is, does that same criticism apply to their own worldview? And most of the time, it actually does.
