[00:00:00]How you doing everybody? Russ Champagne here with you and today we are here back in the wonderful world of airport Baggage Simulator. Got a little bit of an issue that we've run into here in our most recent terminal that we've been working out. So, we're going to see if we can get that issue fixed up. But again, we're going to do this in a nice relaxing way. So, if you if you're looking for some background noise to have on or if you're just kind of feeling tired and want to just kind of take a little bit of a snooze, um this might be the one for you to do that, too. So, kind of kick back, relax while we attempt to fix a bit of an inefficient mess we've made at our most recent terminal.

[00:00:47]So to give you an idea of the problem [music] that we've got here with our terminal, if we take a look at it, it's not going to look bad from initial from an initial first glance. Everything about it is going to look kind of nice and you're going to be like, "Well, Rusty, what's the problem with this?" So this is the terminal if you've not seen it. Oh >> okay, there's the bad joke. I I went right by that. So, so if you look, we've got a what seems like a a nice set of conveyors here. Nothing is really like out of the ordinary. There's like no no massive spaghetti junction that we got going on. It's pretty much a straight line and and everything looks pretty darn good, it seems. So, so you might be wondering, well, well, Rusty, what what's the problem here? What do you got as a as a deal here with this given the way that it looks? So, this is the trouble.

[00:01:38]This gate right over here is for JFK airport. So any bags that are for JFK go to this gate, gate one right here. Now here's the trouble. You have a bag. All the bags come out of here. So a bag that would go to JFK airport comes out of here, hangs a left, goes here underneath this bridge, then gets checked first to see if it's going to Barcelona. If it's not going to Barcelona, doggo be doggo.

[00:02:10]It's not going to Barcelona, then it gets checked here to see if it has anything illegal in it. At which point, then we would get an alert from doggo.

[00:02:17]It would fall out over here. We give it to Ralph. Ralph will give some cash. But if it's still okay there, then it continues on and we check to see if it is a lost and found bag. Since it's a bag for JFK, it won't be lost and found.

[00:02:31]So, he continues going all the way into here, at which point we check to see whether or not the bag has an invalid sticker on it. If the bag has a valid sticker, then it continues going this way. Then, it checks to see if it's overweight. If the bag is not overweight, then continues on this way.

[00:02:47][music] Then, it goes over here to check and see if there is any weapon in it.

[00:02:50]And if there's no weapon, then it goes over here. And then at that point, we go on to see if it's going over there to that gate, which is Mexico City, or this gate, which is Ro Harbor, aka Real Civil Engineer. If it's not that, then it gets checked here to see if it's going to Willard Airport, aka Rusty Champagne.

[00:03:10]Hi, how you doing, everybody? And if not there, then it gets checked to see if it goes to Frankfurt, which is right over here. And then after all that, it finally comes all the way through here again.

[00:03:24]all the way through here, back over this bridge, and then from here it gets checked to see if it's going to JFK, at which point it then finally makes it into the JFK gate slot. So, you have bags that are taking this ridiculously long trip all the way through the airport and a bag that should only take like a minute to get to JFK. Instead, it's going to probably take north of 5 minutes to make this entire circuit and finally get into there. So, we've got horrible, horrible amounts of inefficiency built into this line, which of course when we built this line, we didn't think about that horrible inefficiency because I'm a So that's kind of the way that these things happen. So what we have to do is we need to get this inefficiency taken out of here, get it where a bag that's going to JFK just immediately gets to JFK and not does a a giant tour of the terminal before it finally gets onto a flight.

[00:04:34]And that's what we're going to fix up here today in a nice relaxing manner.

[00:04:39]So, in terms of things that we've got, we still need to check all of the negatives first. So, we still need to check to see if a bag has a weapon. We still need to check and see if a bag is overweight. We still need to check and see if a bag is invalid or if it's lost and found or if it has an illegal substance or if it's going to Barcelona.

[00:04:57]If all of those are false, so if it is if it is not if it passes all these checks. So if a bag doesn't have a weapon and then doesn't is not overweight and does not have an invalid sticker and is not lost and found and does not have illegal substances and is not going to Barcelona, then we can finally say then it can go on to its destination, whatever its destination may be.

[00:05:20]So then if it's a bag going to JFK, it can then just go right there and just go straight down the line here and then boom, it's off to JFK. So what that basically means is that the way that we have this negative setup, this negative check setup, we we have to completely rework that. It's not going to be a hard rework, but we're going to have a lot of straits that end up getting moved as a result of this in order to make this all work. And again, that's where we get into the nice kickback, relax part of it, because it's going to be a lot of putting [music] new straits in, putting in new bridges, running straights through here, setting up new turntables, lots of stuff that's going to be going on here to make this happen. And putting up some of these cages just in case we need them in between areas where we might have some issues.

[00:06:13]So, first things first, we need to check for weapons cuz that is the thing furthest furthest left [music] in the check. So, with that being the case, we need to go here. We need to grab the X-ray machine. We need to grab the scanner and then we'll start with that.

[00:06:33]Get those set up.

[00:06:36]So, first thing that's going to happen, bag's going to come out of here. It's going to get checked to see if it has a weapon in it.

[00:06:42]So, we'll set this up. Display is here.

[00:06:45]Input is there. So, now we need to flip it. Can have the display here. It doesn't really matter which way the display is, but we're still going to do that anyway. And then we're going to have it check. The weapons check goes here.

[00:06:58]So, if it does have a weapon, then we're going to have it go left. If it's valid or if it has not yet been X-rayed. This is the one they they also changed this.

[00:07:11]If you take a look there, they changed the the not the notation. If you look on the right, so where it's going out on the conveyor there, it says not weapons x-rayed. So that never will Oh, did they actually Oh, they changed this where it's it can go three ways now. Oh, that's another thing they changed. Oh, that's perfect. So now we don't have to do any of the crazy turntable madness that we were doing before. because it used to be that the the it's good check only came out the way that it's currently facing now, but they've flipped that so that all three of those are adjustable and you can flip through all the different scenarios. So in this case, we do want weapons to be going out to out that direction and we do want good to be going out that direction. So they they've changed that. And then this one here, not X-rayed. We don't care about that cuz it obviously has been X-rayed.

[00:08:06]So, oh man, that's a huge change. That's a massive, massive change. And I'm so happy to see that they've done that.

[00:08:12]Now, the fun thing becomes we need to set up the run to the weapons there. So, here's where the fun begins. So, we're going to need a whole bunch of straits.

[00:08:23]One, two, three, four, no, three. A bridge over.

[00:08:28]Then we're going to go four and then turn here. Then go five, six, seven through there.

[00:08:37]So we're at this point. Then we're going to go 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 puts us to the right side of this post. 23 24. Uh we're going to turn here. 25 26 27 28 29 30 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 3 straits to do this.

[00:09:13]I can handle 38 straights. That won't be a problem. And then this is going to this turn is going to be right about there. One over.

[00:09:27]Yeah, one over. So, we need to get 38 straits cuz I I don't think I can steal the straits from anywhere. I mean, I might be able to steal these straits. We can take these straits.

[00:09:41]So, we'll call it 31 straits now because I'm I'm taking a bunch of straits from there.

[00:09:47]And we'll even go [music] 28 straights.

[00:09:50]So, I'll take these straits from here as well. So, let's go ahead pick these straights up. So, 28 straights now to do what we're going to do.

[00:10:09]So, I'll need that over here when we get this part of the line done. So, we're up at 29 straits now. Yeah, 29 remaining in order to do what we're looking to do here. So, this is where we just begin all the fun of setting this up. And again, this is why it's nice and relaxing to just have this on in the background while I'm taking a whole bunch of straits and setting them up.

[00:10:34]Major reef configuration. This is going to go somewhere. I think it's going to go. We'll set that there for now. It won't land there permanently, but it'll be in place at some point.

[00:10:51]Now, again, I think I said 29 straits for this. Okay. So, and I don't think I have any others that I can really pill for. I mean, I guess I can pill for these going down this way. So now we're down to 25 and then 22 1 20 19 18.

[00:11:14]So I can pick you up. So we're at 18 now to do what we're doing.

[00:11:35]These are all thankfully facing the right direction as part of this.

[00:11:40]And then I'm going to have to take all the ones that are to the left of me and flip them back around the other direction again, which is the way they were when we first started this exercise. But then I flipped them all the wrong way because of the goofy way that I have this entire thing set up.

[00:14:38]And we'll run a day of this after we get all this set up just to make sure everything's working the way that we think it is.

[00:14:54]So that is now set up. So now anything that's a weapon is set up and goes out there gets invalid scanned. We're good to go.

[00:15:52]But that's okay cuz this line is going to end up being used for everything that is a terminal 2. We're going to head every have everything go back to that way.

[00:30:02]Now, the the funny thing about this is that all this work that we're doing is really only going to have impact for the remainder of this task, which may only take a handful of days to finish. But I I I just I wanted to try this out anyway, cuz even if it's a handful of days, there's going to be a lot of just a lot of inefficiency that's in here that's just going to continue to make me crazy the entire time until we actually finish this up. So, I I I wanted to do this even if we don't get a lot of benefits out of it. And if nothing else is it's a training exercise for me to see if I'm if I'm doing this well. I probably should be building another passageway through there. That would have probably been a smart thing to do.

[00:30:46]Um but we'll we'll see cuz I may not need one cuz if we we'll see how it goes cuz it may not be necessary. It may be necessary.

I mean, I I I certainly could.

[01:13:15]So now this is going to be faster. So now there's still a possibility that things could end up not jamming up here cuz we could have the occasional bag that has a weapon in it. Maybe not. But the next one we will speed up will be this. We could get to the point where down the road we don't have to have these all at 4 seconds because bags will slowly trickle out that way, that way.

[01:13:38]That way, and then you won't have this back up here. But right now, we have this back up here because this was operating at 5 seconds, and this was operating at six.

[01:13:48]But now we got this one at five, this one at four, but this one is still at six. I'm throwing so many numbers around, and this is not really helping anybody to relax, I don't think. The only thing that's good is I got cages up here, so bags aren't going to go flying.

[01:14:11]Not too bad at all. And again, we just like go right through here. So, the next round of bags that we have are going that direction. So, they're not going to Atlanta or Deli. I still haven't had a deli flight today. So, where are these bags going? They're going to Mexico City.

[01:14:35]And then we got bags here that are going to Champagne. They're coming to visit me. Everybody, we'll have a we'll have a party at the Alina Union. We'll set it up. See if I can get some space in the summertime. It shouldn't Well, I shouldn't say that because we got all kinds of new new student registration going on. So, the union is still plenty hopping at this point in time.

[01:14:58]Not as much as it would be during the school year, but it's it's still hopping. So, yeah, we still got three bags trying to get to Delhi. We do have a deli flight, so that's good.

[01:15:10]This one, it is not as important to get the throughput as it is to make this a little bit faster because again, we still got a backlog of bags here because this is still operating at 6 seconds.

[01:15:22]This one is 23 points to get it to 4 seconds. We should be able to get to 23 points without too much problem, I do believe.

[01:15:35]So, where are the bags going now? We got Is this still my flight to Champagne that we're going?

[01:15:47]It's our flight to Frankfurt now. That's the next one we got.

[01:15:53]And then we got a flight to Roach Harbor. We got a flight to Mexico City.

[01:15:56]This is where it would be interesting if they had it where bags could go to more than one place. That that's something that I've mentioned a few times is that a bag can only go all the bags go show up for one particular flight at a time.

[01:16:08]So right now all the bags that are coming through are showing up for our Delhi flight and then they'll start showing up for another flight and then for another one. But you won't have like a bag that shows up for Delhi, a bag for JFK, a bag for Champagne, a bag for Ro Harbor, then maybe another bag for Delhi, and then maybe another bag for Ro Harbor and stuff like that. There's no randomness to the way the bags show up.

[01:16:28]I'm guessing it would just because it it would be too hard to keep track of it from a programmatic standpoint.

[01:16:35]I don't know. Maybe it wouldn't be that hard, but I'm guessing that that's why they don't do it. Now I need this one to get to 4 seconds to have this entire line all the way up to doggo at or past doggo. So it would be to the and actually at Barcelona it's 4 seconds. So then the first place that we're not at 4 seconds is then at if it is going to Delhi or Atlanta.

[01:17:03]So the entire line would be at 4 seconds once we get that one sped up which we need 22 points. We should not have a problem getting 22 points.

[01:17:14]I think we should be able to get there by the end of the day. With all the things that we have in here, we should be fine. With all the bags we still have in here, we should be fine. So, who are the next bags in the system? Where are we going? Are they coming to visit me?

[01:17:29]Are they going to Frankfurt? What do we got? Roach Harbor. They're going off to re real civil engineer. He's got five bags heading his way.

[01:17:39]I still love the fact that he was playing this game and he didn't know why champagne was in it.

[01:17:44][laughter] I really need to see that episode. And we got bags here that go into JFK. So after the Ro Harbor bags are complete, then we got all the bags here for Ro for JFK. And then we'll have bags, some bags for Atlanta. We've I think we've still got a flight to Mexico City down there on the other end. Maybe a flight to Frankfurt.

[01:18:06]So, it'll be interesting to see exactly how many bags we handle by the time this is over because this line has just not stopped.

[01:18:13]We've just had bag after bag after bag come through here. There's been no stopping on this line.

[01:18:20]Once this gets up to 22 wrenches, we can go ahead and upgrade this one one more time, which we're going to have that here in just a second. There it is.

[01:18:35]Now, this entire line runs through here at 4 seconds, which means there's no real reason to speed this up without speeding. And you can't even make this any faster. So, there's no reason to make this ever any faster than 5 seconds because this is this can't get any faster than 3 seconds. And the next step down for this is 2 seconds. So, we'd have the same thing here where bags were going coming through here at 2 seconds, but they'd then be going through here at three. So, why speed that up? I mean, I guess you could still make it better cuz they get through here at two and then they get through there three. May maybe it might be a bit better. Someone who can do the math can tell me on that one.

[01:19:22]It I'm sure it would be a little bit better, probably. And look at all that cash.

[01:20:21]So, there should be one more that was in a scanner. That's my last of my Mexico City ones. So, that'll be the final flight out to Mexico City there. There's number four.

[01:20:40]Then we got our four for champagne, which I can now make that better. So, we'll have max throughput to Champagne. And then the only thing we don't have max throughput to at this point is Atlanta deli.

[01:20:54]The deli in Atlanta where you can go and pick up all your finest sandwiches at the deli in Atlanta. We got five going to Atlanta.

[01:21:05]And if I get five more wrenches, then we can go ahead and get that updated. We'll see how that goes. The good news is that by the time we're done with this job, we are going to have a lot lot lot of money. And at 13% to give back, we'll be able to keep a whole lot.

[01:21:27]We we keep now I think 13% of our money is salary. So yeah, we're going to be able to take home I mean by the time we're done, we might be able to take home like $5,000.

[01:21:37]Two more bags for Atlanta. That might be the last of it cuz I think all the flights down here are done. No, we got uh the final flight out is Frankfurt.

[01:22:19]We've got everything on this side is done. 174 bags handled today. That's pretty darn good. That is really, really, really darn good. I I like what we've done here. I I feel like we've done a good thing. Um, where's a good place to to kind of take a look at it?

[01:22:43]Just a little bit, but all in all, not too bad. And like I said, this part here is going to change because this line is going to extend out to Jedha.

[01:23:03]Then we're going to go here, which is going to go to Atlanta and Delhi. And then the last thing is going to go to JFK.

[01:23:12]So, some changes, but it's not going to be drastic in order to get that finished up. All in all, that went a lot better than I expected.
