And then um I'm pretty sure that they opened these Catholic social clubs. So after mass I could just go for a p you know there's a reason behind everything like that for%.

I remember from what I can remember was a h shop opened like when I was like n the last h shop I can remember was like probably around 2012 and from what I remember >> I think one of the main shops like ted on them cuz they were staying customers so like it was like a spa or something turf war they don't have a license to do it you need to have a license to do it or something like that [ __ ] t on it it's like having a kid send a kid out know like in America you see all these kids selling juice and all like lemonade in the street on them they're [ __ ] selling lemonade they don't have a license to do it >> sure like did you always want like do they have a license too though the ones without them like you know surely like none of them had any licenses you need license to sell [ __ ] pack of sweets >> cuz I remember some of the mobile shops like they would sell like cigarettes and all cheap fig loose loose loose fp why you going to why you going to France so All the cheap, you know, that's what they did though. They drove it all home >> in the boot full of figs. No clothes with them. No suitcases. Just suitcase full of cigarettes.

Like you know, you're you're on right lines like Maddens and Bles. I go to quite a lot, you know. I do go to Callie's a lot too, though. Um, if we're talking about like off the beaten track bars, I do like the herk.
>> Um, cuz my nanny used to drink there.

>> They do. And it's cheap still, >> you know. It's like five or under now, which is hard to get now. Hard to get, you know.
>> What What's the cheapest paint you've ever had?
>> Cheapest paint. Uh, >> like recent obviously >> the Forester is pretty cheap. I think that's like 420.
>> I went to that buffs club.
>> Yeah. and that that square.
>> Yeah. So, you wouldn't know it existed.
And uh the Royal and the Deluian Order of the Buffalo.
>> It's crazy, isn't it?
>> Cuz I was doing the social club series.
Still am like, but uh I was trying to go to social clubs. I'm trying to go like all across community, you know. Um so went into there. I was recommended to go there and it was I think it was like 420 or something like that and that's in the center town.
>> It's a it's a gooey place actually. So I was a wee bit because obviously I'm from like a Catholic background.
I was like, am I going to get any sort of jet? And I forgot I was wearing this t-shirt, >> too.
>> Going in with the Irish on it and stuff.
And I was like, oh Jesus, I'm going I had preconceptions of what it would be like going in, you know. And I did have like a picture of the queen and a picture of the king up at the back.
Okay. I was like, "Oh jeez, I'm going to get [ __ ] killed here." And then um it was that was couldn't have been more welcoming. They were lovely. Like and they let me film around the place and >> won the fazine gave me like a tour of the building and stuff like >> I don't understand. It's mad that we still have to feel like that this day and age like isn't it like it's like like what what what's so bad about having Irish because I like the Irish language I'm a Catholic like doesn't mean to say cuz you're not a Catholic you don't have to take Irish language >> supposed to be for everybody what I mean I know it's not >> there used to be there was a girl I used to work with and uh from the village and she uh said her grandpa like what early 1900s or whatever used to speak Irish and he was like a a unionist manic.
>> So it wasn't it wasn't >> but that you still that we had a feel like that in 2026.
>> It only became uh like that during the troubles because people obviously used it to >> IRA members and stuff in custody learned it to speak behind the back of the the prison guards and stuff you know so like there was that connotation then and then >> it just got it just went haywire but it's it's resurgence now like I'm flying.

>> Yeah, I speak Irish.
>> Did you go to B school? I went to B school and I went to college the first year.

>> Right up. So my wife, she's she speaks I as well. She's um >> she works in TV. She works she's like a TV producer.
>> So she you teaching the kids then you >> my lot goes to school now as well. So >> it's it's good for your like brain development stuff too. Like if you're learning another language like early on like it's good for like development and stuff, isn't it? I think.
>> Yeah. I felt I had done I remember up there and I took on this we uh Spanish language course thing that's online it was crap like free >> but it was like it was so easy I was picking her up so easily.
>> Yeah.
>> I was like >> what the like and it must be because of that must be because like >> I'm familiar with learning like with having two languages like multilingual.
I was like I was just picking things up so easy and then a lot of things that don't sound like like it doesn't sound like an English word but it sounds like an like so I was able to relate it to like oh that sounds like this in Irish.
>> Yeah. So what means this?
>> I think Irish like the Latin language like it's one of the families like same as Italian and like Spanish and stuff like I don't really speak much so it's speak couple of words like [ __ ] up but um I want to learn it like me and my wife are going to do some lessons like culture land or something.
>> There's loads of places now I do Irish do you know like five points and I'll do free lessons free lessons free Irish lessons and stuff it's probably just like a social thing like get people there and have a few drinks learn Irish and >> suppose it's a good way to do as well cuz get you an opportunity for a few pints.
>> That's literally what to do. There's a place in the falls. Um the fellow runs it and it's literally what couple of p couple of fuckle he does like know couple of words couple of pints like so he does the lessons in Arabic. But I know I do want to learn it just cuz like it's the language of the island you know.
>> I know I know 100% let it die out like historically you should never let it die.
>> It's growing massively now though. Like it's just it's growing like to try and get internationalized like nearly impossible. It's [ __ ] heavy to get into >> open up more.
>> I know that's it. Like we've only won secondary school here in in in the in Belfast. Yeah.
>> And I think the nearest one's D.

>> I got expelled in third year and uh well they tried to expel me. They couldn't do it.
>> They couldn't do it.
>> They pulled me back in.
>> Pulled me back in. And you know what? I was delayed because I wanted to go to CBS cuz all my mates from the area went to CBS. But then when I look back now, I'm going thank [ __ ] Like it was never meant to be. But >> you turned over a new life. They wanted to throw me out and they couldn't get me out because the nearest schools the nearest I was using D and my dad was saying we're not send him to another school.
>> Yeah.
>> So you like what are you going to do here? So I had to go to like the education board for like meetings and [ __ ] and they were like he's gone he's out and I'm like well excuse me home schooling because >> he's I'm not sending an English speaking school >> and then school D which is outside of like the perimeter. I don't know what it is, but the education perimeter or whatever it's called, but they end up letting me back in. Then the school agreed to let me back in under certain circumstances.
>> Was the threat of going to Derry not enough to like send you on a straight path?
>> See, I'm furnished like see after that get some comments now.
>> See after that after that it was good. It was like I had to be on report for like a a full year. I actually think it was had to be on report every year after it. But it was good. Like it actually it changed me cuz it was like being watched and being separated from the groups and all was but it don't me don't mean the world.

>> So there was some there were still some interesting people that went there. We we uh we played diamonds uh a lot there like in in J and stuff like >> basketball team was the number one was the main sport.

>> Did you ever play any sport like >> I played like Gillig and Herland when I was growing up and I played football. I actually was all right football. Played for Rosario locally and then um actually funnily enough this is actually full circle now. I got a trial at Bal Clair Comrades.

>> Just obviously up the the tree. You know what the trial was though? So it was like it was I think it was like the start or the end of the summer. So it was coming into the season.
>> My trial was a pre-season match against like an under 17s of like a really good club like I can't remember what club was but it was like you know Irish league sort of ones you know >> and I was midfielder. I was attacking midfielder and for my trial they put me in center back.
>> Oh [ __ ] >> I was like I don't know what to do here like what do I do here cuz you put imagine put a striker like in goals or something. You know what I mean?
>> So I I played that match. I was pissing down rain and I was like the worst pitch I've ever seen and it didn't go well evidently as I'm doing tours now at Belfast like I'm not playing football you know professionally but uh I play for BL comrad sort of thing and I did I had a thing with DC as well >> and I was uh mom very protective okay so she drove me down to this training and it was actually when they were in between pitches or something >> and they were training out the back of Andy Town Legend Center when the pitches were Uh it should be gravel remember.
>> Ah so there were train out there and she drove me down to the thing and she saw like I don't know what she saw. I can't remember I was like 15.
>> She saw like maybe them smoking or like doing whatever else like >> you're not going there son. You're not going there.
>> I know turned around and back home again. I was like [ __ ] sake. Yeah, I >> think I'm going to do it, you know, like >> could have been a star, you know, >> DC >> nightmare. I'm sure my uncle like got on trial in the 70s with United.

>> Well, I think it was the year I think it was year like around the time when United got relegated. They got relegated to the second division time, but he got travel then it was still a big thing, you know.
>> [ __ ] right. And at that stage, anyone going across the water would have been like a big thing.
>> But you know what, some fells in the west are like, you know, just don't want to leave their home.
>> I know a lot. That's a big thing here like where people a lot of people go and just can't hack it. Like and uh >> like I would be crackling at night and stuff like my chest, you know, lying down and stuff. And then um I went to the doctor's and it was the it wasn't the you regular doctor, okay? It was not the nice one. And I went to the doctor and I was like, "Doctor, I think I might have asthma." Okay, my dad's got them, uncle's got them, brothers got, you know, runs in the family. I got crackling in my chest at night doing all those weeze and blah blah blah. And he goes, "Everybody thinks I got asthma these days." And I was like, "Right, okay." And then he he goes, "Do you think it might be?" And he looked me up and down. He's like, "The weight."
>> I like, "Fuck sake."
>> And then I went back again and I got the nice doctor and then it was actually the there's like a asthma nurse that comes in once in a while and she did the full test and I had full-blown asthma. Like >> I was like, "What are you talking about, doctor?"
>> We uh my dad is the opposite. I I've said this before. My dad's pigeon lung.
Obviously, you know, he's had pigeons for his whole life. Like, >> but they keep saying he has asthma and he doesn't. He's like, I don't have asthma. I don't have asthma.
>> So, we keep trying to diagnose him as he doesn't have asthma. Getting them inhalers and all.
>> He has pigeon. He's [ __ ] >> This is so difficult for me.
>> He's pigeon lung.
>> He has pigeon lung.
>> So, we like >> what the [ __ ] pigeon?
>> It's pigeon lungs, right? You're acting like people know what pigeon is.
>> You know, like D's grandmother's neighbor like two days ago died by pigeon >> two days ago.
>> Like well was buried like two three days ago. So died last week sometime.

But it's like it's [ __ ] very common like it for for Pidgey men. It's like all the bacteria of all the years of cleaning your pas.
>> It just it it kills all the airbags in your lungs and stuff. So your lungs can't expand and it's like basically you have an asthma attack every time you like you get a breath very easy. Like if my dad runs up and down it goes up the stairs you he just goes into like a science when he's doing oh [ __ ] half near dead he [ __ ] on his last breath. Hang on.
>> If my mate watched this, like I was telling my I won't name him on the thing like but were saying like he was a referee for pigeon races and stuff.

So, we were in uh the same American friends, right? We didn't know them. It was 2022 we met them, but we were at a baseball game in Boston. He went to Red Sox game >> and me and Tina were just sitting watching the match. It's like three, four hours long. Like, it's mad. And then, uh we're sitting beside this guy.
>> So, one guy had a lead shirt on, >> lead United shirt. Um and then the guy sitting beside him had a t-shirt said not British.
>> Okay. And I was like, you seem like interested talking. What a dynamic.
>> So yeah, we're talking to him. Turns out the guy wearing a lead shirt, um he was originally born in Leeds and he moved to like Maryland, the United States when he was like six. So he's lived there ever since. So his accent's weird.
>> Um but his mate, um Carl, uh I was chatting away to him like American Phil blah blah. We had a really nice like chat, maintaining them, blah blah blah.
And we gave each other's Instagrams and we're like, "Oh, if you're ever in Ireland, you know, visiting, come back."
And we're like, "You're never going to see these guys again, you Um next day me and Tina went into Boston went to um uh Harvard like the campus up there about half an hour outside of Boston.
>> Went up there, came back in. Sorry. Um came back in and we're in a big massive park. Now Boston is like what city? A million and a half people or something.
Yeah, big city.

>> We saw the Cheers bar. You know that show Cheers. Oh yeah. So we saw that bar across the street. We're like we go over there.
>> We're standing outside. was taking a picture of me and then while she was taking a picture I got tap on the shoulder was a fellow car sitting beside us >> [ __ ] hell but like we've kept in touch with them so we um they came to Ireland then the year after and they they came to Belfast then and >> unbelievable went out with them and then last year we went to visit them they live in Virginia so we went to DC not Washington >> the city and uh went DC for 4th of July and and all that sort of [ __ ] And then we went out to visit them. I brought her like they have newborn daughter and stuff. Bought her shirt and stuff like everything. So again that'll be class.

>> Yeah. Have you any uh what what's the what's the ambition for you now? Like is it like do you want to like focus mainly on the tours or apart from getting your dream license? Obviously I've said on camera to do it but um just so I had a full-time job. So I was doing the tours alongside that. So I was doing my weekends and I left it three months ago, >> right?
>> So jump ship because I offered volunteer redundancy and I was like I'll take it.
>> I take it.
>> May as well. Um so I took that. I wasn't happy anyway like but I took it on my jump ship and started doing the tour. So I would love it to sort of properly take off. It's been doing well. Like it's been but you have to build it up because when you're doing it full-time, you're competing against everybody else.

>> You know self-employed life is it's tricky. Sometimes you always have to be constant pressure on it too like so I signed up for the apps like get your guide via tour. So if anybody wants to book a tour, book it on that or directly with me on D Belfast. But I want to I would love to do that full time, you know, but whether or not it'll be feasible, we'll see how it goes in the next couple months, you know. At least I got that bolster of the >> keep you keep you taking over.
>> But want to do that continue the YouTube channel as well. Like you know, YouTube's tough like 100%.
>> Um and all that sort of because I enjoy doing what I do.
