[00:00:00]so our first piece today is the Mozart Sonata in B-flat k454 this is a late Sonata of his um it was written in 1784 for the violin virtuoso Regina strinasachi I got that right I think of Mantua and the story that his wife constanza liked to like to tell was that Mozart didn't have time to write out the piano part so he put a blank sheet on the piano and obviously he did it from memory um because he was that kind of fellow and the emperor Joseph II saw this he spied it through his glasses and he summoned Mr Mozart and so we can only imagine what he said to him and what Mozart said to the emperor so we have three movements we start with a Largo and then an Allegro that's the first movement the slow movements is an Andante an E flat that's Mozart's favorite key and the last movement is a Rondo in B-flat [Music] yeah foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign thank you [Music] foreign [Music] thank you foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] thank you foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign mm-hmm sorry the lead faulty okay [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] foreign foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] laughs [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Applause] thank you [Music] foreign foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thank you foreign [Music] foreign [Music] thank you very much I hope you enjoyed the first Sonata so uh Mozart was about 29 when he wrote that and Beethoven is now 30 when he writes this piece so we're going to play the spring Sonata Opus 24 and I was readjust my music so it was 24 so in this year 1800 he had written just written his first Symphony and he then so that's Opus 21 is his first Symphony this is Opus 24 and in the same year he wrote a second Symphony so it's quite an early work Mozart had just died in the late 90s in 1791 sorry early 90s and he was hailed as the next Mozart so this this piece is very classical it leans into Mozart however Beethoven being Beethoven as we we know him now very well you can hear in his Dynamic writing so his accents and the crescendos and the southern pianos that's Beethoven that's his Hallmark and there's lots of that in this and I hope that Madeleine and I can bring this out for you um why is it called Spring that was a name given to it after the composer I think it's the opening Melody that's that's the that's the cause of that um it's very it's a very beautiful Melody isn't it anyway we have four movies in fact this is the first violinson Arthur and Piano Sonata to have four movements although the third one is very short it's about a minute long and it goes straight into the last movement so the first movement's in F major second movement in B flat major and then we're F major to the end [Music] please [Music] laughs [Music] thank you foreign [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] thank you foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign foreign [Music] [Applause] [Music] thank you thank you [Applause] [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] thank you foreign [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] thank you thank you [Music] thank you [Music] thank you [Music] Oklahoma [Music] foreign [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Applause] I appreciate that we have one little piece up our sleeve um it's a delightful piece you'll love this so send you out dancing into the rain I'm sure um this is called Midnight Bells and it's from the Opera Ball by hoiberger arranged by the famous Fritz the flea Chrysler he was known as the flea by Rachmaninoff his friend because you couldn't quite catch him so this is midnight Bells by arranged by Chrysler [Music] foreign [Music] please [Music] foreign [Music] foreign foreign foreign [Music] [Applause]
