Religious institutions can suffer from systemic corruption when hierarchical protection shields corrupt individuals from accountability, as demonstrated by the case of Father Efraín Hernández Díaz, who allegedly diverted 90% of donations to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe while being protected by Cardinal Aguiar Retes, illustrating how institutional hierarchies can enable financial exploitation and compromise religious integrity.

The Cardinal, The Cartel & The 90% Cut: Guadalupe's Corruption Scandal
Added:Archbishop Mario Delpini, who he presided apparently over a mass for LGBT lobbyists.
Uh where indeed one attendee was seen wearing a shirt depicting Jesus himself in rainbow colors.
Is this not the clearest indication of where we're supposed to move on to? Will you be moving on to this father? Will you be appearing in rainbow colors next next week?
>> in that direction, you can be sure that I will not be.
>> Why ever not? I mean surely this is where we're supposed to be moving on to.
>> What in the world does all of this have to do with with my religious beliefs, my relationship with God? Nothing.
Absolutely nothing. As a matter of fact, it's distracting.
It's distracting from the real theological and religious questions.
It's bizarre. It's absolutely bizarre.
This is what we are being invited to move on to.
Yeah.
It's a It's a shame. It's a It's an absolute shame.
>> Well, I mean I think it's important to remember that if if you think it's a bit extreme if I talk about this as being a kind of revolutionary movement, when you look at what revolutions do, what they do is they attempt to replace what was and what is with what the revolutionaries think should be there instead. And so this is why it is important to note that this has nothing whatsoever to do with the Catholic religion, yet it's being preached by Catholic prelates with the imprimatur of of the See of Rome as well, which of course is a revolutionary technique. And this is I think that helps us to understand what's happening is that just as Professor Thomas argues, and of course society as well, would argue that this is intentionally being instituted to replace the Catholic religion with a new religion that has absolutely nothing to do with it. So that of course is perhaps the most profound definition of the revolutionary technique we can see in practice today.
>> The problem is that people are waking up today. They're waking up. I see it. See it. People are waking up. They're not buying this any longer. There's a whole reaction to racism that's recent. A refreshing reaction to it.
You're back to reality. There's a reaction to an awful lot of things.
Climate change, for example, is not even considered by most people today a real threat. It's simply not. It's what it's almost God forgive me for saying so, but it's almost typical of the Vatican to even be behind the times on that.
>> But it is as if they've wedded themselves to a the spirit of an age that has actually passed. That these are kind of yesterday's popular crazes in the liberal world. And they're gradually losing purchase because it isn't, of course, extremists like you and I who are radicalizing people to reject these things. It's because they basically contradict reality, the natural order, and of course the basic tenets of anything that you can describe as meaningfully Catholic. And so that's the case. It's an obvious contradiction.
>> As Fulton J. Sheen said wisely, said that the man who espouses the vocabulary of one age becomes a widow in the next.
>> And one of the things also to notice that how little of Catholicism is actually being celebrated or even defended or of course even taught, which is why I think we have the most poorly catechized generation in history.
It's It's It's absent. Uh but instead of that, we have ABC, which is kind of anything but Catholicism. And so that brings us to another story, which again, you could scarcely invent these as scandals uh if you if you were willing to do so. Reality is far more scandalous than anything we could conjure. We have the Archbishop of Detroit now praising a new a new mosque with the words, "There is nowhere I feel greater kindness than in this mosque."
and that was what Archbishop Edward Weisenburger scandalously said.
That he fairly fully felt, he said he very fully felt the sense of the divine presence at a new headquarters of an Islamic Institute.
We have We have We have leading clergy in the so-called Catholic Church celebrating Islam, celebrating the rainbow flag, inducing Catholics to see it their religious obligation to join what is effectively a political cult of climate change. But seldom do we see any defense or sincere attempt to profess the Catholic religion.
>> I wonder if he feels the same way with the United States uh Conference of Catholic Bishops? Has he Is Is not felt Is not felt welcome there? Has not felt loved or or or or uh embraced by his own there? Or it had to be with the Muslims in a mosque? That was the That This is the best experience that he's had of fraternity?
That's kind of sad.
>> Well, it is, isn't it? It's It's like a tragic abandonment. How heartbreaking it must be for faithful Catholics to see this being uh promulgated in place of the defense of the one true faith, which of course is his duty. And it is a dereliction of that duty. And it's a terrible thing to see. Unfortunately, these things we don't talk about them because we like to pillory people or malign them. But these are unfortunate facts about reality that are really demoralizing Catholics and leading them away from the salvation of their souls.
Which is Which is ultimate we're talking about. Now, you spoke last week, Father, about a scandal that you said you had to check up on. You wanted to check your own facts, and you wanted to make sure that what you said spoke to those facts directly without embellishment. Are you willing to revisit that now?
>> Yes, I I'd like to do that. I I restrained myself, which is an unusual thing for me to do.
Last week because I wasn't sure of the facts of this, but I've investigated it and actually called in a couple of friends from a couple of priest friends from Mexico to get the straight story.
And the story is this, it concerns the cardinal archbishop of Mexico City, Cardinal Aguiar Retes, and a priest uh that is one of his uh proteges, Efraín Hernández Díaz. The long and the short of this is that the cardinal uh has been protecting Efraín Father Efraín Díaz Hernández Díaz for the longest time and has been promoting him over the years, giving him more and more and more responsibility until finally he became uh he put him in charge of the economy of the Archdiocese of Mexico City, which is no small thing.
This uh priest then proceeded to charge every parish uh every parish was given a quota, a monthly quota that they were to turn into to him. It's all It was almost like the the uh the rackets, the uh the the mafia in in in Brooklyn in New York, you know, that to to protect your store kind of thing.
And he of course he won all of the disdain of the clergy, but ultimately the cardinal archbishop put him in charge of the Basilica of Guadalupe.
There are many other steps before that, but the but the Let me just put it this way, the donations to the Basilica went down by 90%. Well, in other words, they didn't go down at all, just 90% were missing. Only 10% of what people gave actually made the collection. Yes.
And and uh anyway, it was >> No, it is. It is an astonishing thing.
And and he was giving about $15,000 US dollars of course in Mexican pesos to the archbishop every month so along with two cars that two camionetas to to kind of truck vehicles worth a million dollars each. The same priest had and he had changed the security system in the Basilica and and another buildings around it and that the security the security wasn't a security company.
They were members of the Guadalajara cartel.
>> Good grief.
>> Yes. I mean the whole thing was just bizarre. The priests themselves the priests council of the especially of the Basilica of Guadalupe asked the the federal government to do an investigation of this man because they were getting nowhere with the cardinal of course he's protected by the cardinal and the man just disappeared.
He ended up in Spain. He said good night good night to everyone one night and the next day he was in Spain because Spain has no extradition with Mexico. He finally went back the whole process is it's a whole mess but there's a lot of a lot of graft and a lot of a lot of shenanigans going on and also who was involved with this was Papa Bergoglio because he was the one who appointed the Mexicans in the Mexico City cardinal because he was a friend of his and let him do whatever he wanted to do.
So this is this is where we are with that. It's a real mess. It'll be figured out and things will be got brought back to normal but this has been going on for a long time.
