Successful reselling requires strategic sourcing from estate sales and retail arbitrage, where resellers identify valuable items by recognizing patterns, checking for discontinued products, and comparing prices against online marketplaces; key strategies include avoiding items with slow sell-through rates, focusing on cottage core and vintage items with high demand, and understanding that estate sale prices are often significantly lower than retail prices, making them ideal for profit margins.

6 Estate Sales & 4 Retail Arbitrage Stops! What I Found to Resell on eBay!Added:
Okay guys, I spent the day out at estate sales and then I did a little bit of retail arbitrage just going to like small grocery stores, smallarmacies, that type of thing. I'm heading home the back of my truck. It isn't full, but I did find some good stuff today, especially items that most people would probably pass up. So, I'm going to jump into the footage of today, show you guys what I found, what I filmed, and then when I get home, I will do a complete haul and show you guys everything that I picked up, even majority of the stuff that I picked up at these small local stores. So, this is estate sale number one for the day. And the first thing I see is this bag of My Little Ponies for only $20. But I didn't know if they were all vintage or not. But once I check out this one's foot, I can tell it has the newer My Little Pony stamp. So, I pass on these. But if they would have all been vintage, I would have taken the gamble and picked them all up. Now, they did a really good job hiding it or getting rid of it. But I can tell this was a smoker's house, so I'm being very selective on what I will pick up.
I still have a set of this flatwear in my death pile. Once I see the pattern, I just walk away because I already know it's not going to sell or it's going to be a really hard sale and it's going to take forever and I'm just trying to get away from these items that are taking longer and longer to sell. I think I sold two items this week that took 586 days or more to sell. Now, I love this chalkware stuff. I just sold some recently, but this is priced just a little too high. Or maybe a lot too high. I don't remember what the prices were, but I just knew way too high for me to resell.
people in engineering use them a lot like for testing stuff >> and this was the reason I wanted to come to this sale but that's Avon most of this stuff is Avon or they're just really pretty ornate bottles anything Fabraier I always look up some scents by Fabraier sell for really good money but that one is not one of Mom.
Okay, you guys are kind of getting like the bare minimum from me today. So, I started the washing machine not even thinking and I'm trying to get this video out for you guys today. So, because I started the washing machine, I can't record in the basement because all you hear is the water coming down the pipes. So, I am recording this in my living room and you guys are balancing on or in my dining room and you guys are balancing on like three Rubbermaid containers. So, let's get through this.
I want I'm going to button and show you guys every piece that I bought at every single sale. Okay, so the first sale I did not find much. Um, but I did I couldn't believe how cheap this was. Oh, look. You guys can kind of see.
You can kind of see um how I am recording this. But this is a muggler. So, this is um it's French, so it's really like Muglare or something like that. But this is Muggler. Um this is a perfume display. It was only $3.
It's acrylic. I have no idea what this is worth. I cannot find any that have been um listed or sold in the last three years. So, not too sure what I'm going to price this at. I'm probably going to go at least 200 on this, take offers, and see what comes in. I'm getting this listed today. And then the only other thing that I bought was this vintage Merl Norman um mirror. It's like a little compact mirror. That is the only other thing. I spent $5 at this sale.
That's all that I found. Oh my gosh, it's not mirrors. I thought it was a mirror. I didn't open it. It's for business cards. Um, so this will I'll probably list this for like 20. And that's it. That's all I found. That sale I drove pretty far out for that one. Um, they had a lot of collectibles. I was hoping they were going to have Barbies.
The guy I got there late. First time ever, my Google Maps took me to like two other locations because this was a drive. It took me to like White Oak Boulevard in that same town and then White Oak Place in that same town with the exact same address. So, uh, I got there really late. I think I got there like 30 minutes late and I was walking in and a guy, a man was checking out and he had spent like $1,100. He had a whole bunch of G.I. Joe stuff. So, I think he kind of got the good stuff, which that happens.
this sale. Everything was half off. I did look up this flute and prices are all over the place. I just wasn't willing to tie up money on stuff. Again, that's going to take a long time to sell or I'm not going to make a ton of profit, especially on this day because I only had $350 in cash on me and absolutely no debit card. I totally forgot my debit card at home. So, I had to work with what I had. I figured the last like two sales of the day took cards. So, if it came down to it, I would just pay the 4% fee and pay with my card. But, unfortunately for me, I did not spend that much money at all.
And this is another pattern that I'm familiar with. Again, I touch that one and I see the pattern, I know right away I'm not picking that up because I have had a set like that listed for probably about 3 years now.
This was another sale that was not the greatest. This is all I found. a blue jean teddy picture frame. I paid a dollar and at this point I'm kind of sweating it because I had just filled up my truck the day before and it was like $122 to fill up my truck because premium is over $6 a gallon. So, I'm like, "Okay, if I leave the house to do this and drive, I have to make money because it's not like before when, you know, it wasn't as much to fill up my truck." And the the seven estate sales, I think I went to six. The six estate sales I went to, they were pretty spread out. Like, I really had to drive. So, at this point, I'm like, "Oh my gosh, I wonder if I should just turn around and go home."
But, I was like, "Nope. You know what?
I'm just going to stick to it because my luck the very last sale of the day will be like the best one and I didn't go.
>> All right. I could not believe the prices at this estate sale. I did sit here and Google lens most of these cars because I'm like what if? You never know. They're all really old. So I Google lensed most of these. It didn't take very long at all. But I mean, for a quarter, if I could find a car that was selling for like 20 or more, I was going to pick it up. But none of these, well, none of the ones that I Google lensed were worth very much or they had a really low sellrough rate. But again, for me, it was just the prices at this estate sale. I have not been to an estate sale with prices this low in a while. And honestly, I don't think estate sales in my area are overpriced for the most part. Some companies know what they have, and I'd say it's really rare even for them to price at eBay prices. Usually, I can still purchase things at estate sales with the companies with the higher prices and make money, but this was just like rock bottom pricing.
Lauren's You need a ticket.
>> Yeah, cuz I still haven't been down.
>> Okay. The prices at this sale were super cheap. I was hoping to find more, but unfortunately they just didn't have anything. I did buy these two veterinary balms for a dollar. This one's used.
This one is new. And I'll throw up comps. I'm not too sure how much I can sell these for. I will list these together in a lot and I think I can get over 40. I want to say when I I'm showing you guys the comps, but I want to say when I comp these at the sale that a used bottle I don't know how used or a used tin sold for like 27. So I think I can get over 45ish or two, especially since one is new.
Maybe more. And then I got this Big Mouth uh Billy Bass for $2. I hadn't checked to see if it was new.
Let me look right now. It is so My hands are so dirty just from touching this.
It's so dusty, you guys. The sellthrough rate is crazy on these. Oh, I think it is new.
Let me see.
Yep, he's new. He still has his mounting thing right there. So, I should be able to get like between 50 and 80 for him since he's new. I just have to check the batteries. I will double check and make sure it works. Just because it's new doesn't mean it will work. Oh, and I also grabbed this for 50. Um the this is discontinued the actual like mechanism.
If you can find like the mechanism with a bottle brand new in the box, these are really really good money. But usually a pop-up comps what these sell for because it depends on how many ounces the bottle is. But for 50 cents, this was a really really good buy.
>> I'm really keeping an eye out for cottage core items. Anything with geese is really popular right now. So I did Google image these. They wanted 16 or 18 for the set. 16 for the set. And these are selling for like 20 on eBay. So I passed on that. But I did pick up this vest. I love selling stuff like this.
Usually in the past, we have just sold it on whatnot and it's done really well for us. I will probably put that on eBay and see what happens. If it doesn't sell by the time we have like our big holiday whatnot sale, which we still plan to have at the end of summer, I will just throw that in there. Now, I could have picked up a lot of these clothes. This stuff is really popular right now, like that granny core clothing. But you guys know how I feel about selling clothes.
And I thought I recognize these as a bolo. I did do a Google image check and these are definitely not a bolo. I love this kitchen floor. Usually when I see like carpet that's like shag carpet or a kitchen floor like that, I just assume I'm going to find all the vintage goodies. But unfortunately at this sale, that just did not happen. I thought that was really cool, too. It was priced at 40. I did not comp that, though. And I probably should have, but that was me just assuming it was priced too high.
Walk around the corner of the shed.
>> Hello there.
This was priced just a little too high for me. It was priced at 12. They sell for 25. Just not enough profit for me to pick it up. Now, I was going to buy these towels, but once I look at the prices, I felt like it was too high. I was going to pay $6 and I just didn't know what they were going to sell for.
You know, by the time Christmas comes around, is cottage core still going to be really popular? I just don't know.
So, even though it was only $6, I like I said, I'm just trying to be more strategic with what I do pick up and what I don't pick up. and not be an emotional buyer where it's like, oh, cottage core is really popular right now, so I'm going to buy everything cottage core because fads come and go and I don't know how long this is going to last and these people aren't paying top dollar for some of this stuff. The cottage core items there that I have noticed, there are only a select few going for big bucks and I want the big money sales.
Okay, this sale when I checked out the man who runs this company, he was like, "That's all you're buying?" Usually, I walk out of there with like two IKEA bags full. They have really good sales.
A lot of times it's like older homes.
You can tell like maybe an older person had passed away or whatever. You can just tell like it's usually really really vintage stuff. I just didn't find anything here. Now those clothes if I enjoyed selling clothes more. I probably would have picked a lot of those up, especially if I think clothes were like $3. So, I only pick up like items that are really really embroidered like this that I know will sell for for good money. Um, usually brand doesn't matter.
This is just white stag. Oh my gosh, you guys. That first sale has my allergies like I do not I have a cough from how bad my allergies flared up from that first sale. I just sneezed like 12 times in a row. But anyway, so anything that is very very like detailed like this, I will pick up. Um, and again, like I said, brand does not matter. And then cottage core, I picked this up for a dollar. I don't know. I'll be lucky to get like eight to 10 for this. Um, I keep saying I'm I'm going to try these cottage core groups on Facebook and I haven't. And I probably should. I have a lot of cottage core stuff right now. It is selling for me on eBay and Poshmark.
Actually, I've sold quite a bit on Poshmark that is like this cottage core type stuff. Okay, this next sale, how crazy. But I hit the Rubbermaid motherload. So, some of these I leave behind because they aren't worth as much as the others. And as you guys know, shipping is outrageous. So, I had to be very strategic on what I am and what I am not going to pick up. Like this one right here, I want to say the comp was like 27 free shipping and they wanted $6 for it. And if the comp would not have had free shipping, maybe I might have picked it up, but I guarantee that was probably about $17 to ship. It'll be really interesting come holiday season to see what shipping rates will be. The post office raises shipping every single October for the holidays. Okay, the washing machine stopped. So, we are in the basement for these next couple of items because I needed this space to show you guys these. So, the Rubbermaid containers. So, Rubbermaid always has a number on the bottom of these containers. Makes it so easy to look up. So, this one is 701H.
And I'll pop up a comp for you guys. I paid $2 for this container. I did leave a couple behind um just because comps look good, but they had free shipping.
So, like the bigger version of this, I feel like because shipping prices have gone up so much, might be a hard sell.
So, this one is 2282.
And again, it's Rubbermaid. The other one was 2283.
I'll throw up a comp on that one as well. Um, but again, shipping I it just kind of made me leery. So, make sure when you comp these, you're checking to see if they have free shipping or not because of the size of these. Shipping will be pretty substantial depending on where it's going. I use calculated shipping. And then this is a Rubbermaid keepers box. This one is 0286 and I think yes, this one is 0286 as well. So, I bought these to lot them together. I paid $2 a piece and somebody sold four of these for a hundred. So, I'm hoping I can get like 50. We'll see.
And then the last one I picked up, this one needs to be cleaned up a little bit.
This one is a 0135 and I paid $3 for this one. So, these are all of the Rubbermaid containers that I picked up. And I'm thinking $100, I think, maybe more. But um so definitely check out Rubbermaid containers when you are at estate sales, thrift stores, garage sales. Again, it makes it super easy with the numbers on the bottom. Not really hard to comp. And I'm sure someone will ask, "How will I ship these?" I won't bubble wrap these brown paper like nest on the top, bottom, sides, and put them in a box.
Okay, guys. I did not record at all at this sale, but I picked up two car heart coats and I paid $54 for both. I could not believe that these car heart coats were still at this sale. I don't even know what time I hit this sale, but I know it was like after 1:00 for sure.
So, I paid 30 for this coat. And obviously, like it's a little rough, but that honest that's what people are looking for. They don't mind. I don't know how much I'm going to list this for. If you can tell, it's really old right here. It has the 42 on the little car heart label. Uh, which helps me out because there's no label here. Like the label is gone. This is like the blanket lined. So, this is the first car heart that was there. But, I really like this next one.
I paid 24 for this car heart. I like the fading on this.
This is another really old one. Blanket lined. This one does have the tag, so I should be able to look it up. Um, just like Google image, someone has it listed for like 325 on Etsy. I don't think it'll sell for that much. I'm not too sure what I'm going to list these for.
Um, I have to do some research. These will be listed today, though. Trying to get everything listed today. I have never found these Ziploc big bags just at an estate sale or garage sale. So, I was really excited to find these. And I found seven boxes at this sale. And of course, I'm checking out the cleaning products, seeing what they have. And then I share this in my bolo group. I I pay a dollar and I'll sell these for like 60. And then I turn the corner and there are more Ziploc bags. This sale had some really great items. Of course, you know, I'm going to dig through everything in the bathroom, but unfortunately, I didn't even find one item in the bathroom to resell. I was hoping to find a really good hairbrush.
It's been a long time since I have found Well, actually, not a long time cuz I guess I just sold a couple of hair brushes last week or the week before, some Mason Pearsons, but it's been a it's been a while since I found a good one at an estate sale. I found those brushes just randomly on the streets of New York. Okay, so these towels absolutely amazing. I love the pattern on these and I've been selling some vintage towels every now and then.
They're kind of a slower seller for me, but the fact that I bought so many, I went ahead and purchased them. Okay, now my retail arbitrage items. People always think that like I gatekeep on this and I don't. small town grocery stores, small time smalltimearmacies, mom and pop stores, general stores. I live in a state where stores like this are pretty common. I know one time I was driving through like kind of northern Michigan.
I saw a grocery store that was attached to a gas station. I stopped. I bought like five bottles of the Smuckers syrup.
I'll pop it up right here. And I sold those for like $60 a bottle. I paid $1.99. This is honestly something that is going to vary stateto state. I do share videos of me shopping at these locations in my subscriber group, but for the most part, what I share publicly is just really general um because I don't want to take my tank my own market. So, these this is everything I picked up retail arbitrage. First of all, look how dusty these are. I don't know if you guys can see, but like they're gross. Like my hands were so dirty. I had on a black sweatshirt when I went to the store and I was like covered in dust by the time I left. I only bought two of these, but they have about 20 at the store. And these were $5.99 a piece. And I wonder if these have a date. A lot of times 1993.
And then I bought a smaller one for $3.99. And again, they have about 20 of these at the store. So, I'll list multiple quantity and if they sell, I'll go and buy them. They've been sitting in the store since the '9s, so I'm not really afraid that somebody's going to go and purchase them. I found three of these brand new Corning wear replacement handles.
And they were on sale. That sale sticker looks old, too. They were on sale for $2.99 a piece. I think I listed these for like 50 last night. I got some of this stuff listed, not a lot of it.
I bought four packs of these Ziplo twist and locks. And I'll show you guys my last sale of these. I think I sold like six packs for 100 or 80. I don't remember. Um, but I listed these for 90.
They'll go into my 20% off sale. So 20% off of 90 is what I have these listed for. And these I paid $2.99 each for them. Again, retail arbitrage. These have been discontinued for I'd say at least five years. 2019 is the date on these. And again, they're the twist and lock. These are the mediums. They're small, medium, and I think there's large. I've never found any large. I've only found smalls and medium. I grabbed another bottle of this. Look how dusty that is. I paid $8.99 for this. I'll pop up how much I sold the last bottle for.
They have like 15 bottles of this at that store, but I'm only listing them two at a time. So, I sold my last two, went and picked up two more. This is a drive for me to go out this way. So, I'm really strategic and like if I'm going to go out this way, I also have to go to thrift stores, especially with gas prices right now. I make a plan. Like, if I'm leaving town, if I'm an hour from home, I am stopping at as many places as possible. And of course, you guys know, oops, I always find these Ziploc bags.
Um, I found some of these at an estate sale.
So, like the newer looking I think just these.
Let me see. I have a lot of them in. No, I have one more.
All of these Ziploc big bags I found retail arbitrage. I paid $6.99 each for these, which is pretty high. Usually, I don't pay any more than $5, but you just never know what stores they're going to price things at. And it doesn't matter how long they've been on the shelves, they're charging what's on the sticker.
I am starting to lock these together because I'm looking at my shelf over there. I easily have like 40 to 50 of like different Ziploc big bag items.
Like some are like the four, some are the three. The totes are what really sell good for me. They're the harder.
They're harder to find though. Um, I'll show you guys what I last sold some totes for. 90 days I have sold over $1,000 now worth of I want to say like $1,200 worth of Ziplo merchandise.
Discontinued Ziplock merchandise. And that's it for the retail arbitrage.
Okay, now the last estate sale. So, I could not believe this, but I walked in and I saw seven of these Ziploc big bags for $2 a piece. Obviously, I bought all of them. Um, I've never found these other than like in a retail spot, so this was like too funny when I walked in. So, I'm I listed I think I listed all of those together or I did them No, I listed them in a lot of two. So, I did these in a lot of two, but I have so many of these. I just need to get them moving again. I've sold like $1,200 worth of them in the last 90 days, but I still just have so many.
It's crazy. And then this Victoria Secret scent I picked up for $4. This is I don't know if you guys can see it.
Vanilla Lace. This is a discontinued scent. I currently have like three of these listed for close to $200. So, this one will have to go on Merkari. Doesn't look like it's new and there's not a lid. So, I'm going to assume that this is used. So, this will go on Merkari um probably for like $50 to $80. Not too sure. And then picked up a discontinued product for a dollar. I shared that in my bolo group. I picked up three of them for a dollar and I'll probably sell them for like 60. This is my favorite find at this sale. I bought four bath towels, four hand towels, four washcloths. I paid $9 a piece. Um, so I paid what, $36. 94 is 36. Yeah, I paid $36.
And I I I was going to list these individually, like one set at a time, but I think I'm just going to do all 12 pieces in one lot. I don't know how much I'm going to ask. I have to do a little bit of research. well over a hundred for sure, but I'm not too sure how much. But that is everything that I bought yesterday. Not the greatest day. Um, but I will make money even with all the driving that I did. I If my daughter's graduation party was not this weekend, I would go back to this estate sale. The house is packed. I mean, amazing clothes. Uh, and I'm not even like a clothing reseller, but they have some really, really amazing sweaters, but we're busy this weekend. Today's half off at that sale. Tomorrow 75% and then Sunday they're going 90% off. And they have some really good cameras, too. They had a lot of like uh Olympus. There's one Olympus camera there. I was on the fence. It sells for like 300, but they wanted 160 for it. and the profit margin just isn't there. But but if I were to have went this morning, that's the first thing I would have went and grabbed. $80 into 300. I'll take that. But um I'm just not going to be able to get back out today. I'm going to edit this video for you guys, put this out, and then I have to ship some stuff, list some stuff, and then I have stuff to do for the party. So, I'm kind of like really missing out this weekend.
Um, there are seven community sales like within 20 minutes of my house. But I really don't have FOMO because my thinking is there's always something.
There's always something at an estate sale. There's always something at a garage sale. If I go thrifting, I'll be able to find stuff. So, I'm just going to take it easy this weekend and then hit it hard come next weekend. Start sourcing and listing consistently again.
I took the week off of social media to get stuff done around the house. I got everything done that I wanted to. So now I feel like I can focus more on my reselling and my content now that those things are out of the way. But anyways, thank you guys so much for watching. I appreciate all of you and I'll see you guys on my next video in a couple of days.
