This Doesn't Seem Like The Golden Age!

[00:00:01]All right, people. It is Harmless Dave talking about things in real time for a few people just like you and just like me.

[00:00:10]So, it's Memorial Day weekend and I think I need to talk about this because the music world, there's not really much to talk about the music world. There really never is, at least the kind of music that I like to listen to.

[00:00:25]But, what's been happening in the world right now, and I know people probably want to escape and get away from it all.

[00:00:34]So, here's a news article. This Memorial Day weekend is shaping up to be one of the priciest at the pump since the turn of the century.

[00:00:45]Gas prices are up across the country just as 39.1 million travelers are estimated to hit the roads.

[00:00:55]As of Friday, the average cost of regular gas is $4.55 per gallon.

[00:01:02]This is according to AAA.

[00:01:04]That's up 43% compared to the same time last year.

[00:01:11]This rivals 2022's record-high Memorial Day weekend gas prices, which averaged between $4.61 and $5.53 per gallon for regular and diesel.

[00:01:25]Diesel is very expensive out there.

[00:01:29]Uh prices are high due to the ongoing Iran war, which is set to mark its third month next week.

[00:01:40]So, yeah, um and a lot of the stuff that I was planning on doing this summer as far as family stuff, I really have to rethink all of it because it just costs more money to do stuff. Um not only that, but uh grocery prices are higher.

[00:02:05]It just seems like everything is more expensive. You try going out to eat at even what I would call an in-between fast food restaurant, a place like say Chipotle.

[00:02:18]And you're dropping 40 bucks on three people and you're like, "Okay, what just happened here?"

[00:02:24]I mean, it's all a bunch of vegetables and you know, you put like a topping on there like a meat topping.

[00:02:33]You choose your protein, right? You choose your protein and your vegetables and >> [sighs and gasps] >> you know, they charge you like $3 for a drink. You know, you get out of a soda fountain for a I don't know. I mean, look, you have to make decisions in your life.

[00:02:50]Um what I feel really weird about is that I keep hearing how this is the golden age and you're going to get tired of winning and so forth and I'm sitting here going, "Yeah, um I don't I don't think that's true.

[00:03:07]I don't think that's true. And as much as I've been political in the past, like I don't want to be political anymore. I just want to observe what's happening, kind of like what I've always done, and then come to a conclusion, you know, you you observe who's doing what. Um there's this war going on, even though I've been told it's not really a war and that we've already won the war or we're winning the war or we're negotiating our way out of the war, even though we've already won the war.

[00:03:44]And then some days I hear how we're going to blow stuff up again.

[00:03:50]And then other days I hear about how uh a deal is imminent. We're going to negotiate and it's going to come to an end.

[00:03:59]Meantime, it's not just fuel.

[00:04:02]There's also things like fertilizer. People need fertilizer, especially at this time of year.

[00:04:08]Um plastics, medical stuff.

[00:04:14]There are a whole host of things that now are being reduced into the supply chain.

[00:04:22]Not as much as before. And this will ripple out for quite some time, even if this gets fixed tomorrow, which supposedly there are negotiations going on.

[00:04:35]Um it's going to be a long summer for a lot of people.

[00:04:39]Rents are ridiculous where I live.

[00:04:42]Like 2,400 to rent out a three-bedroom house.

[00:04:48]2,400 bucks.

[00:04:50]I mean, most people can't make 2,400 dollars in a month. Okay?

[00:04:56]And so even if you have a really good job, you still have to pay for food and gas and the utilities, and it's it's crushing.

[00:05:06]I've got friends who are like, "Yeah, I'm not going anywhere this summer."

[00:05:10]I had planned to do a bunch of things.

[00:05:13]I'm just going to stay put. The old staycation is back. Remember like 2010?

[00:05:19]People were going on staycations. Well, the staycation is making a big comeback.

[00:05:25]I'm just not sure this is the golden age. Okay? If this is the golden age, then I'd hate to find out about the age that's uh like the bronze age, you know, the copper age. I don't know.

[00:05:38]Gold was it? Gold, silver, bronze?

[00:05:40]I mean, the bronze age is going to be rough if the golden age is like this.

[00:05:44]So, anyway, um so I'm just wishing everybody a happy Memorial Day.

[00:05:50]That's That's my upbeat take on what's happening.

[00:05:53]Um, not feeling it out there, folks. Not feeling the greatness of everything anymore. Um, politics is useless right now. It just seems useless. It just seems that nobody cares and nobody is really listening.

[00:06:12]So, on that happy, optimistic note, uh, the best thing you can do is pray.

[00:06:20]Pray for peace.

[00:06:21]Uh, pray for prosperity. Pray for tranquility, domestic tranquility.

[00:06:27]Pray for the people who you love and even pray for your enemies because you never know.

[00:06:33]Maybe things will change because of that.

[00:06:36]God can do a lot with just a little bit.
