Donald Trump publicly praised companies within days of buying their stocksAdded:
President Donald Trump is drawing new scrutiny over the timing of some stock purchases. Recent financial disclosures show Trump bought shares in Apple, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and Micron around the same time he publicly praised those companies. On March 11th, Trump bought between $15,000 and $50,000 of Thermo Fisher stock. That same day, he toured one of the company's Ohio facilities, called it a great company, and encouraged other drug makers to work with it. Also on March 11th, Trump bought between $250,000 and $500,000 of Apple stock. Later at an event in Kentucky, he praised Apple's US manufacturing plans. The disclosures also show Trump bought Micron stock on March 25th. The next day during a media interview, he called Micron one of the hottest companies. Trump's filings show more than 3,600 transactions worth somewhere between $220 million and $750 million.
Some trades were reported late leading to a standard $200 fine. However, the Trump Organization says the president does not pick or approve specific investments, and that independent advisers manage the portfolio.
