Look, obviously I'm not a fat activist kind of supporter. I definitely want people to lose weight and obviously they need to eat green, you know, vegetables, not you know, those kind of green like eat a salad. That' be pretty good. I just don't want you to get a little overweight. And yeah, anything green. No, not mint chocolate chip. That doesn't count. All right. Uh, let's go.

[00:02:39]>> Look, look, I I understand they're probably doing it because they're working and they want to get some sort of payment. I get that, you know. I understand. But obviously, there's got to be a better way. And all the while, >> sorry if I pause in the worst worst spot, but whatever.

[00:02:59]>> Of course, that's what they're going to say because they want to know, they want to be treated as normal. They want to be, you know, attractive for young men.

[00:03:08]They want to be the the norm, you know, so they could, you know, uh, you know, like live their style of fattiness and, you know, eat cake while going on dates and it it'll be normal. But it's not.

[00:03:22]For the love of God, just eat a salad.

[00:03:32]Looks like that's what she's she's saying. This could only last for so long because heart disease gets us all in the end. Gets them all in the end. I guess I think the rest of us are mostly fine.

[00:04:21]>> Fat acceptance has definitely fallen by the wayside over the last little while due to a little fun thing, a little fun pokey poke called Ompic. But before that, I'm sure a lot of you remember some time ago when a series of fat activists and fat positive people passed away from obesity related.

[00:04:38]>> Yep. And they all died. It's crazy what happens if you keep eating unhealthy.

[00:04:44]You know what is my favorite fatty food? Uh donuts. That is my kryptonite. If I see it, I just cannot have one. I will have a dozen. But obviously the best way to avoid that is not by having them in the first place. Avoid them of all cost.

[00:05:01]Whatever it is, >> if you are wondering what constitutes an obesity related complication, no, it is not one's own legs collapsing under the weight of one's own body. As it turns out, >> it's breaking chairs.

[00:05:18]>> Or uh basically hogging chairs just like in the airports, especially when they're trying to take multiple seats and you know, obviously being a nuisance, you know, just absorbing the air around them.

[00:05:37]No children. Instead, it is a person's heart screaming, "Please, please help me." In two of these cases, tragically, the people in question were actually trying to get themselves to a healthier place, which I feel like makes the whole thing extra sad. For a quick refresher, Jose, a fat studies academic and prominent fat activist, died suddenly in her sleep in March 2022 at age 42. She was a senior lecturer specializing in fat studies and a vocal advocate in the fat acceptance movement. I don't want to make jokes about people who have died because I generally think that's in fairly poor taste. But on her university scholarship page thing that was written after she passed away, it says that she wrote about coming out as fat girl.

[00:06:24]>> Well, yeah, but it's a good lesson to have, especially when you're actually taking those lessons not to eat too much. It's not about joking. It's about life lessons. And if you see somebody eating to death, you kind of want to point that out and say that you you're going to end up like that person. I It's just how it is. I'm sorry. It's just you don't want to get into that position when you become like I don't know, like a big ball of wonder. I'm just saying >> you didn't have to write about that. We could see. I'm just saying. Jaimeie Lopez, a former plus-sized influencer and the owner of Plus-Size Salon who was trying actually to get her weight down, died in December 2022 from heart.

[00:07:08]>> You mean she was kind of trying >> and then we had Britney Sour, >> a Tik Tocker and another former fat influencer figure who died in late 2023 and I think also uh from heart issues, although >> No, I get it. It's sad. you know, obviously, but it's kind of their it's legitly their fault for eating to death.

[00:07:30]Really, everybody has telling them over and over, if you keep eating tremendously greasy food or any sugary food, you're going to get some health problems. It is not that hard to comprehend. It legitely is right there.

[00:07:48]You could like I'm not saying don't eat sweets ever or don't eat you know like those kind of fast foods. It just you got to lower the intake. You're not supposed to have it every other day.

[00:08:01]Maybe every two weeks, maybe three weeks, but just eat some green and at least eat some at least normal basic food like like a normal breakfast at the start and then you know you just go from there.

[00:08:15]Try not to eat too much bread, like dough. Just for the love of God, at least do something and just walk around.

[00:08:23]At least go outside and go to the park.

[00:08:25]At least touch some grass. That's all I'm saying.

[00:08:51]Um, and I'm hoping that it's not too late for me this time. But because life just seems to go on recycling stories and events and things that happen and despite the rise of Ompic and people returning to being reasonably waif thin pointy people, a bunch of fat activists and fat acceptance figures I guess have continued to pass away. But people don't really notice anymore because it's not, you know, it doesn't garner that much attention because >> well obviously because nobody cares about it anymore. It used to care back in the day, but not anymore because they started to realize that there's actually a lot of health problems to it. What do you know? It's not scientific. Well, technically it is, but it's nobrainer really. It's normal. Like, just don't eat what you can't, you know, just don't eat to the extreme. You know, eat healthy. Yeah. I'm like a broken record at this point.

[00:10:35]Sometimes I wish I was one of them.

[00:10:39]>> Ew. No, I'm just kidding. Well, yeah. At least she's at the park, so it's something. But it's just sad seeing this. Really, it is. I swear to God, if I was there from the very beginning and start shaming her, she would legitely get annoyed and not legitely start showing me how it's really done that she'll probably start running and stuff.

[00:11:01]It worked. I have done this to plenty of people >> cuz they just eat whatever as much as they can. No, seriously, they actually thank me for it, too, because obviously it does it. You know, obviously shaming does work. But, you know, to it really depends.

[00:11:41]We call it the hunchback and he fixed his posture and it worked for him and it's funny. Well, you know, depending how you do it and all that stuff, but he really did fix around, you know, basically he did a 180. It was incredible.

[00:11:56]600 pound >> got more ladies than I >> life just don't very few people on the show actually choose to improve and keep the weight off and it's sort of just like watching someone deliberately drown themsself although watching someone struggle to do basic tasks like getting out of a car without it turning into a medical emergency really does inspire me to go for a walk so you know there's that >> yeah I'm a little hungry I didn't eat all day >> ah I'm thinking that maybe is a good thing and maybe rather than pursuing food, you should be pursuing going to the gym. Maybe you should go and buy yourself a pair of good headphones and then take yourself on a walk or to the gym. And >> well, I agree. Absolutely. I 100% agree.

[00:12:40]I like them. The mentality is head to the gym, but obviously you have to start small. It's like eating. It's like obviously if you you know you're eating so much portions you're going to have to let's just say not eat the bread for example or not eat like some sort of like you know like sauce basically like ketchup you know mayonnaise or ranch.

[00:13:03]It's like the little things that you minus it out and then eventually you get used to it. It takes time, baby steps, and obviously going to the gym right away is, you know, is, you know, be, you know, better 100%. But I just, you just don't want them to give up right away.

I don't know what happened though to them. Probably I don't know.

All could have been avoided if you just consume a little bit.

[00:19:52]I know that reality television is absolutely built around showing extreme situations and kind of extreme people doing extreme things.

[00:20:01]>> Exactly. It's entertainment. That's what they're, you know, people look at because obviously it's like, how do I put this? It's kind of like the intrigue. It's like a for example, they want to feel good like a person who's eating like garbage, you know, like greasy stuff and they see uh this huge oversized whale. I'm just saying. And eating like tremendous a lot like a mukbang. Yeah. And it basically is like at least I'm not that big basically.

[00:20:31]And in this >> it's like entertainment feel good kind of like that >> case obviously it's about you know people battling obesity and whether or not they can and >> some of them are some of them don't care >> will actually lose weight and rejoin society but like I said it is it's dead set like watching somebody hold their own head under the water to drown. I think the worst part for me is I don't even know what this is trying to achieve because at what point does this stop being normal entertainment and become something kind of grotesque like a weird voyerism of I don't even know I don't even know how to describe this because there's there is a lot of nudity because they like to show you that these people can't wash themselves. What is what is this saying? Are you trying to scare people out of obesity or you trying to normalize it? Which one is it, doctor? I Yeah, I like this guy. He said one of those quotes which it was kind of interesting. It's like because that person was fat. I think it was the soda girl. Yeah, it was it was interesting.

[00:21:36]If you won't do the things you need to lose weight, how do you think weight loss surgery is going to make you lose weight?

[00:21:42]>> I know it's going to help me lose weight because at the end of the I know what I want for myself.

[00:21:48]It's not it's not very much going to help. you still could have the the heart failures and all that stuff, but it's better to lose the weight on your own because you'll create that discipline.

[00:21:58]Obviously, that's a shortcut and obviously it does, you know, kind of help, but in reality, you won't have that discipline. You could go back into that disgusting, you know, eating habits again. So, you would rather I would rather basically it would be better if you just do it on your own. strain of severe obesity and just being obese in general is undeniable when you consider that 18 people for the most part over the course of the last decade or so have died from one show. One show about fat people and 18 people from that show have died. That is that is insane. And actually while I was looking into this I thought huh I wonder who else has passed away from obesity related complications.

[00:22:44]uh who you know has a fat acceptance profile. And it really didn't take me all that long to find more examples of fat acceptance/Body positivity people, body positivity influencers who have died recently, which is very sad, >> which is a lot of them, don't get me wrong. They're just not here with us anymore. But to be honest, no one's to blame but themselves. You can't put that on the show. Well, unless they go like, "Well, if you eat a bunch of Twinkies, you're going to be on the show for a lot longer." But that could be the case >> to be honest.

[00:23:18]>> A woman called Mona Lisa Steven who is a Nollywood actress. I guess Nollywood is Nigerian.

But it's neither me nor a joke because I was so radicalized recently. This is a total aside, but I was so radicalized recently because I watched this documentary called The Anatomy of a Romance Scam. I think I'll put the poster on screen probably. Uh, and it was about romance scams and how many Nigerians scam elderly Americans by pretending to be investors or pretending to be romantic partners >> or their, you know, family members. I need $200 to get out of this country.

[00:24:19]>> And they make literally billions of dollars. I did the math. It's probably somewhere in the realm of like five or six% of the country's GDP is scamming Americans and Europeans. And I don't know, it just it radicalized me so much.

No offense, boomers, but you do not have good discernment when it comes to people trying to take advantage of you. Just you guys should definitely watch the documentary. It was really good. It made me so angry and I I genuinely called my mom and I was like, "Hey, listen. I know that you like to be on the internet and in your fun little groups and stuff, but please, if anybody ever asks you for money, do not give it to them, no matter how good their story is. Thank god she's still married to my dad, and my dad's like, "What is going on here?" Anyway, back to obesity. Mona Lisa Steven, who was a plus-sized model and content creator, died in May 2025. She, like many of the >> Do you notice a pattern? They're all dying here. So maybe the problem will solve itself.

[00:25:51]>> Diabetes complications is sort of hard to glean online, but for what I can tell, she died of hypoglycemia and internal bleeding, which can result from being diabetic.

[00:26:00]>> Yeah, that's definitely painful. Sister confirmed the death of the hardworking and beautiful soul. Well, it sucks. You know, I know, I get it. But obviously, you know, it happens. We You know where you're going to. you know what you could have done to stop it, but you didn't.

[00:27:58]started sounding the alarm about body positivity and how grotesque it is in the modern era. I mean, it's always been grotesque.

I'm not sure how many of you remember, but a woman called Gabrielle Lascano went super viral a few years back because she announces she was leaving the body positivity/fat acceptance movement and she felt guilty for having ever taken part. In a series of videos, she talked about being fearful for her health. Oh yeah, some chatter I mean some chatter Yeah. said like Lindsay or Lizzy. Yeah, I remember she was, you know, a large woman. Yeah. Fat basically. And obviously she managed to actually lose a lot of weight and she looks a lot better now. Yeah, exactly. Did Oh, yeah. That's right. She destroyed an image of herself that way. Yeah. Yeah. It was a cardboard cut cutout. Oh, okay. Yeah. See, that's good. I like that. than learning the hard way that obesity restricts you and it also kills you.

[00:29:29]>> She recently did an opinion video with the New York Times where she reiterated how dangerous the fat acceptance movement is in this sense. And while she still wants people to be body positive, she doesn't think being obese is the >> it's either in or nothing because obviously you can't please both sides.

[00:29:48]You got to choose one. And I rather choose the one that is more healthier.

[00:29:56]>> Over time, I got heavier and heavier.

[00:29:59]I've always been an adventurous person, but there was a lot I couldn't do anymore. Fitting into the seats on roller coasters, planes. I couldn't wear heels. My dresses wouldn't zip up. And that wasn't all.

[00:30:10]>> When you're bigger, you might not be able to wipe as well as a a thinner person. You can't reach cuz there's no space. Some days I would look at photos and not even recognize myself. At one point during this video, Lasano describes how the longer she was in the movement, the more that she gained weight. And honestly, she's not the first person who has said this and described this after leaving this movement.

[00:30:32]>> I started to wonder if loving myself at any size had become an excuse to ignore how big I was getting. I felt like I saw myself being brainwashed. Essentially >> in my travels of the internet, I came to find out that yes, in fact, unsurprisingly, lots of other women also view the body positivity movement through this lens and in this way. This woman, for example, articulates something very similar to Lasano, saying that body positivity ended up being a vehicle for accepting things that were actually genuinely not okay. I think it got to a point where the movement, I was using it as an excuse to stop taking care of myself. Like don't get me wrong, for a long time I really liked the message. Like I think we all should feel good in our skin.

[00:31:15]>> Well, yeah, of course. It's it's legitly trying to normalize being, you know, a slob and just eating whatever you like.

[00:31:23]And obviously you want people to like you for who you are. What I mean by that is what you want. You know, like obviously I want to eat a bunch of Twinkies and I'm going to get fat no matter how big I'll get. and you will like me no matter what and I will take so much space that you just had to sit there and enjoy it.

[00:31:46]No, you will not have a Twinkie.

[00:31:48]>> But I think the narrative somewhere changed from self-love to just complacency. And I found the movement as an excuse to sort of let myself fall off the wagon a bit and also skipping habits that are actually beneficial for myself.

[00:32:04]And for some reason, discipline was labeled as self-hate.

[00:32:07]>> Another woman.

[00:32:08]>> There you go. Discipline. See what I'm talking about? Do it. Do it.

[00:32:14]>> Yes. Of course it's hard. Everything is hard.

[00:32:20]>> 25 that fat acceptance became untethered from reality and the movement is actually just led by mean girls, which >> I'm pretty sure they're last legs. I'm sure the fat positivity movement is legitely on legitly on the ground right now.

[00:32:35]There's no way it's going to come back again. Everybody knows it's it's such a h you know unhealthy lifestyle. It's not going to work. And if people are trying to gas you up like every positive how fatty you could be and you know how good it is, they're completely wrong. And I'm glad people are realizing that. Even the ones who are are believing that they think that, you know, positivity is, you know, fat positivity is good. I'm glad they're at least knowing that it is not.

[00:33:07]>> I was in deep with the fat positive, body positive, fat liberation movement for a really long time and I left. I I packed up and that's because I felt like it got so nasty, so mean, untethered from reality. And >> well, how mean is it? I I'm kind of curious about that. Like what were they saying? Is it because people are trying to say you're fat? Well, trying to control myself here. But it's probably because obviously it is an unhealthy thing, especially when there other people who are trying to like say that be happy with who you are, but obviously that who you are is like for example harder to get up in the morning because you're overweight and obviously you get lazier. You don't want to do nothing and you want to just snack down basically like the whole fridge which is pretty bad and you're not buying any, you know, any kind of green stuff. No, no mint chocolate chip.

[00:34:05]>> Matt, the goalpost >> was just constantly moving. lot of people in it who I think >> encourage people to not seek medical professional help um for health conditions or just like flat out deny science um and pick and choose when to apply science. I also think that there's a little bit of a victim.

[00:34:27]>> It's not science, just common sense.

[00:34:29]Just don't eat what you're not supposed to eat. Technically speaking, you're not supposed to drink soda. You're not supposed to eat fast food. But obviously you could you could eat it if you want, but every like every two weeks at the max. Maybe three.

[00:34:46]I recommend almost never, but maybe once a month. Maybe do it as a cheat day.

[00:34:53]Obviously. Yeah.

[00:34:54]>> Culture within it that it has created.

[00:34:56]>> I'm not saying don't give up on it. You know, obviously I do like soda once in a while, but you it'll taste a lot different after for like if you hold off soda for a month, it be it really is becomes like a lot sugary. It's crazy.

[00:35:11]But I recommend not drinking it. Water is the better choice.

[00:35:16]>> Um, and I think some of the leaders of at least >> Yeah, fine. If you want to drink some sort of energy drink, maybe, but again, I wouldn't recommend it. the online movement, I'm gonna be honest, are mean girls. And I think that because some of these people are creators online and have their income tied to it, they kind of almost become incentivized to create more extreme takes, right?

[00:35:36]>> Since last >> it's because those people want to see them suffer and uh you know, make them feel better about what they're eating and obviously they want you to see you die.

[00:35:45]>> Spoke about this specific topic. So many new videos have cropped up where people are saying that fat acceptance is a scam and it's a joke and moving away from it.

[00:35:56]And again, it's not because of Ozmpic in this capacity. I think it's because people are waking up and realizing that this movement is miserable and bad for society. I mean, I'm sure a lot of them then go out and get OMIC because that's that's their way out of this. That's their golden ticket. But I keep saying this and I think I'm correct. You know, I think that body positivity was always one giant cope. And I'm not talking about the original body positivity, which is accept yourself despite your flaws, yada yada yada. I'm talking about the sort of Mongaloid horrible version of it that we know and love today. And yet, crazy in spite of this, it doesn't stop things like FatCon from going ahead. Yes, this is real. on their website. Fatcon is described as a three-day conference for fat joy. Fat joy.

That's That's going to be a no for me. It's never going to stop being absolutely nuts to me that people pursue trying to normalize that which is not normal. And I'm positive this has been studied. But I would love to know what guides this kind of psychology. What is the motivation behind trying so hard despite everybody dying, despite people pulling back, despite people objectively wanting to be smaller and thinner? What is the desire to persist with this?

[00:39:31]>> It's glutiny of what? That's exactly what it is. They just want to be fat and they just wanted to have everybody accept it.

[00:39:43]The ones that are asserting that fat acceptance and body positivity as we know it today are just massive massive roads to achieve complacency.

[00:39:56]Because if someone's telling you that you're great as you are and you don't have to change, what would ever make you want to change and do better?

So I think that those women who are making these observations are probably correct >> because other women I'll say this obviously there is a women and women kind of versus in there because obviously they would actually encourage this like you know encourage their bestie to eat the whole fridge and for some reason they will just tell each other they look skinny in reality they look like fat as a cow. I don't know why they do that. maybe because I they just don't like telling the truth, but it's not helping anybody.

[00:40:40]>> And the other thing is that if you have in fact tied your finances to being a fat person and telling other people about being fat, then yeah, you are incentivized to keep other people overweight, which is crazy work. That is a crazy thing to realize. Wow. Hey, just your >> You go, queen. Oh, yeah. You look so skinny. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. Uh-huh.

[00:41:04]>> Fat best friend, your fat influencer, your body positive bestie to jump on and let you know you're not on your own.

[00:41:11]You're not alone. There are still at least a dozen of us out there who who are here.

[00:41:17]>> Yeah, we're millions >> who are who are still trying to keep, you know, open and safe spaces for bigger people. So, I definitely think that there are way fewer people making this sort of fat acceptance online content because so many people have left the movement.

[00:41:34]>> Yeah, of course. Because they're finally waking up and they're noticing their life will be ruined and basically cut short if they don't change something.

[00:41:42]>> Many people have lost a bunch of weight and no longer fit into the movement.

[00:41:46]They sort of get >> Hey, I'm just saying it what it is.

[00:41:49]>> Don't get mad at me.

[00:41:51]>> But the people who are left, man, are they salty. But I guess if I'm being honest though, >> well, of course back then obviously it was such a very positive movement and everybody was on board and obviously there was a lot of things that kind of ruined it for them because obviously they started demanding demanding demanding for a lot of things. I remember the one that mostly people hated was obviously at the airport or the planes. They wanted free seats like like three so just to be built for them even bathrooms and it just got worse and worse until finally people had enough and they just told it what it is. You're big, lady. You big.

[00:42:33]>> Have been. And a lot of the old content that they used to make and still do now to a much lesser extent always seem to revolve around stopping people from pursuing dieting or getting medical help or uh you know slimming down or this type of thing because they just perceive that as an attack on being fat and they perceived it as fat phobia.

[00:42:54]>> Good. We need more of that. said this before, but I do think with a lot of social ideologies and social cultural movements, a lot of people just woke up to them and realized how corrosive they were slash are andor how stupid and ineffective this way of thinking is. I think the broader culture has completely moved on here and I think that we're going to see the closing down and the slowing down of these niche micro online communities more and more as time wears on until inevitably we roll back around to them in about 20 years time because apparently everything just continues to recycle itself. In the meantime, and I do think this is really sad and really quite tragic, and it's, you know, I don't take any happiness out of saying this, but I do think that we will continue to see more fat acceptance and more fat liberation, people pass away.

[00:43:44]And I think that those who understand what's going on will move away from these movements and will make better choices and inevitably slim down. So I think on a long enough timeline naturally we will see the fat acceptance movement and all its other little offshoots shrink and shrink and shrink until really it sort of is no more. So >> and I think that's you know as much as sad as you want to make it seem but I think it's it's fine and it's I think it's good not necessarily them dying.

[00:44:15]It's just obviously we don't need that kind of positivity movement. It shouldn't never existed in the first place. It was something that was going on a little too long and I'm glad that people are waking up that it is finally seeing some push back and being, you know, pushing people to the right direction of being healthier. That is probably the main thing. And I get it.

[00:44:36]If you want to eat as much as you like, go for it. You want to do that, absolutely go for it. You want to eat pies, you want to eat Twinkies, you want to eat whatever you want, go ahead, do it. But don't freaking make it into a very like lifestyle of, you know, positivity of health. Don't do that. Don't say fatty being fat is healthy. No, it is not. If you want to go down with this ship, let it go down.

What do you think the implications are as people get fatter and fatter and fatter in our society? Do you think that we should be paying closer attention and we should actually be ringing the alarm bells about how terrible obesity is? Do you think that this is just sort of a natural byproduct of the food that we have access to and how much people eat and what do you generally make of this issue overall?
