[00:00:00]What's the book club of the month? The book club of the month is Yesterday by Kwo Onwuemeor. It's her debut novel. It only came out last month and it has taken social media by storm. It's a satirical thriller about the phenomenon of traditional wife influencers and the protagonist Natalie is one of those women who has six children, makes her own jam and all that jazz. And she has made a hugely successful career from it.

[00:00:27]I think she sort of presents this perfect life, but I'm not sure that is the actual reality. I think instead of, you know, creating things from scratch on like a burner stove, she's got a super high-tech oven somewhere in the back. I think there's sort of, you know, the story there that it's fake, but then she wakes up in 1805 and she suddenly is in a real traditional wife role where she is out scrubbing children's clothes until her knuckles bleed and her husband is suddenly a farmer. It's a big change.

[00:00:57]She doesn't know whether she's in a reality show, whether this is like a test from God or whether this is just a cruel joke. So she's trying to work out what the hell has happened to her. It's been sort of compared to Gone Girl. So if you like that sort of dark humor, strong women, you know, fighting back against the system, I think this will be for you. But I am really excited for it.

[00:01:17]The underlying themes are the hypocrisy of social media and also whether motherhood is a performance and what's real and what's not. Um, so yeah, I think it's a good one. So give it a go.
