The video effectively leverages celebrity health scares to deliver critical medical knowledge to a distracted public. It is a pragmatic, if slightly sensationalist, approach to public health education in the digital age.

Corey Minor’s Wife Shares URGENT Health UpdateAdded:
It's a condition that causes a breakdown of muscle tissue releasing a damaging protein into the blood possibly damaging the kidneys. So >> How does it happen and why can it be fatal? Our chief health editor Dr. Parthan Andy joins us now with more on this scary diagnosis and doc I've always thought of it as the good sore. That's what you hear people say and that's not the case.
>> to an extent but uh Glenn and Dave let me start by saying that Jared is is expected to make a full recovery but let's start with the basics to understand what happened to him. When you lift weights right you cause tiny tears in the muscle fibers so your body will actually send protein to sort of pave over the damage and this is how you end up with bigger muscles. Now rhabdomyolysis which is a long name for rhabdo can happen when you have extreme muscle strain. The injured muscles can break down and release a protein called myoglobin into the bloodstream and that protein can damage the kidneys making it harder for them to remove the waste and concentrated urine and this can lead to kidney failure. In some cases rhabdomyolysis can even cause death. So how do we know doc if we're overdoing it and when to quit? So Dave I'd recommend that you stick to moderate intensity levels and avoid overdoing it by listening to your body. It always gives you signs. That means not going beyond what feels comfortable or natural. Also I want you to make sure you drink enough water. Really important there. Drink enough water. Now rhabdomyolysis is extremely rare but it's still important to know that if the signs are there you're really pushing your boundaries of your workout regime. And just like in Jared's case you can experience sore muscles, weakness and trouble moving but also watch for dark colored urine or infrequent urination. If you experience these symptoms it's important it's critical to get medical attention right away. If you're diagnosed and treated early enough you can expect a full recovery. Now I don't want people to get afraid of rhabdomyolysis and and stop exercising. It's good to push yourself like Glenda says that you build up endurance and strength. Just don't go to extremes and that's the key and this is not the first case of rhabdo I've seen with CrossFit so you've got to talk to your doctor and see what's right for you to not push yourself to extremes.
Uh that's it right there.
>> [clears throat] >> Yeah.
Yep and they and they do call it um and they do call it uh rhabdo for short for for people like us who have no idea how to spell this thing or to pronounce this thing.
So um my grandson That's what I want you to pray for.
Pray for him.
Give me just give me a second.
>> [snorts] >> Yeah it is.
It is.
And so what the um >> [snorts and sighs] >> what the >> [sighs] [snorts] >> it flushes the kidneys out.
And so they have what's called this um this CK number.
The CK number is basically um kind of a level of a certain type of creatine that needs to be down.
And so >> [snorts] >> um uh his went down. They were treating him.
His went down.
Uh it did go back up a little bit uh just recently.
But he he's um he's still doing better.
He's still doing better.
Um [snorts] they need to get him to where he's able to walk around and it's not painful.
Um this little boy is when I tell you this little boy is um smart. You know everyone says their kid or their grandkid is smart. No. This little kid is is is kind of I want to I'm not going to say next level smart.
Um but he's really smart.
And sometimes he's too smart for his own good and so you don't know if if he was just saying something um you know it hurts so I walk and it hurts but no it really it really did. And I was letting his parents know that um I could feel the same thing so when I'm walking it was I was just just weak. I mean how I asked my wife um cuz I couldn't >> [clears throat] >> open a a bottle a water bottle the other day.
Um so she so she opened it for me.
Sometimes I got strength sometimes I don't.
Pray for him. He's he's a 6-year-old boy.
>> [snorts] >> Uh me I'm 53.
So I'm I'm optimistic.
I'm optimistic uh about overcoming all of this.
Um >> [clears throat] >> but there's a different type of fear and concern when it's one of your one of your kids or your grandkids.
Um so >> [sighs] >> um so that that's my bigger concern is if something were to you know the only way that you can shut me up is if you shut me down. If something were to shut me down permanently and I'm no longer here on this earth amen. Praise God.
Um I'll look for you in heaven. You can find me in the bald section. Right? So but I think um I'm good. I think I'll be good. I'm I'm I'm believing that.
Um and I think that in this whole situation and I you've heard me say this before that God isn't always concerned with taking you out of out of a situation as much as he's concerned about seeing how you respond and react in the situation.
And so in this situation my only response has been just to turn to him.
