This video provides a clinical demonstration of how legal doctrines like "hot pursuit" function in high-stakes reality, effectively bridging the gap between constitutional theory and tactical execution. It serves as a sobering reminder that the sanctity of the home often yields to the pragmatic demands of public safety.

Suspect's Hide & Seek Game Ends in Chaos
Added:On June 26th, 2022, in Lovington, New Mexico, officers were inside Dusty's Bar and Grill on a routine walk-through when one of them recognized a man, Rashad Mackie, who was wanted on multiple felony warrants. When officers attempted to speak with him, he took off running.
This would mark the beginning of a strange, winding search across Lovington, where officers followed one clue after another in a dangerous, real-life game of hide and seek, trying to figure out where Mackie could have possibly gone.
>> Let me see your hands, Rashad.
>> We're going to be in the parking lot.
He's on foot.
He wants to be BETWEEN RIGHT HERE.
>> HE'S GOING TO BE RUNNING TOWARDS YOCUM.
>> RIGHT here in this in this field.
>> Go this way.
>> Go that way.
>> 28, black male, white hat, white shirt, jean shorts, Rashad Mackie.
>> Hey, go stay on Yocum.
>> Okay.
>> The vehicle is his. The vehicle is going to be moving inside Lovington.
It's going to be a dark gray Acura that is going south on 17th, south on 17th.
>> Confirming he got into a vehicle?
>> His vehicle that he was using. The vehicle he rides in has left. 21's in route after the car.
>> He does have district court warrants hold without bond.
>> Hey.
Go slow walk it, at least to the field over there to the trailers. I'm sure he got in the car, though. Check the beds of the truck.
>> I got this.
>> Yeah, that'd be nice. Do you know if he got back in his car?
>> I don't know.
>> There's a car that's parked right there.
>> Yeah, I have no idea where he is.
>> Okay.
>> You guys didn't catch him?
>> Oh, no. He's too fast.
>> What did he do? What happened?
>> Oh, he's got felony warrants.
Yeah. Did you see me eat it?
>> Hm?
>> Did you see me fall?
>> [laughter] >> It's okay. It happens.
>> Yeah, it happens.
>> Have a good night.
>> Thank you.
>> You too.
424 dispatch, I'm back in my unit. I'm going to be ATL in the area where he ran.
>> Officers continued searching [music] the surrounding area for any sign of where Rashad Mackie could have gone. For the next several minutes, they searched the blocks around Dusty's [music] bar, but he was nowhere in sight. Roughly 20 minutes later, officers located his vehicle abandoned in an alley less than a mile away. With the vehicle now located, officers were one step closer to finding Mackie, but the night [music] was about to take several unexpected turns.
>> warm, too.
>> What?
>> still warm.
>> That's his hat, too, isn't it?
>> It's a white hat.
Yep.
>> You want to do a search warrant on it?
>> No, we don't need to. We'll just tow cuz it was involved in what went on. So, just do a We'll do a report and just do a clean.
>> Oh.
>> Yeah, it's unlocked, so we can >> Yeah.
>> All right, I'll start logging the valuables.
>> Officers began searching [music] the vehicle subject to impound and completing the paperwork to have it towed from the alley. Inside, they found a wallet with identification [music] belonging to someone else, a purse containing two phones, and a hat they believed to be Mackie's. [music] But as officers continued looking through the car, someone stepped outside.
>> Yes, sir.
>> Is there a reason why you're looking at my car?
>> Okay, this car was involved in an incident earlier.
>> Um not that I'm aware of.
>> Oh, that I'm aware of cuz it happened with us.
>> I have no idea what you're talking about, but >> Okay, well, the vehicle's going to be towed, okay?
>> Towed for what?
>> The car ran from us.
>> I had the car the whole time, so I don't understand.
>> No, we have the We have the car on video. So, you can keep lying and end up in jail for for resisting, evading, or obstructing, or you can go back inside, or you can tell us who was driving.
>> I >> So, the vehicle is actually going to be towed. I would keep a better eye on it and not lend it to anybody.
>> I didn't lend it to anybody, so >> Okay, well, there was somebody >> That's why I'm asking why it's getting towed, but can I get my driver's license from inside and then we can >> Look, man, we talk to people all the time.
>> Okay. Thank you.
>> We have video footage of this vehicle, man. Okay?
>> Have you seen him?
>> Yeah. Okay. We've already been so you were digging around in the car without my permission.
>> I don't have to have your permission when I'm doing the vehicle inventory because the vehicle's being towed so I have to make sure that all the items in the vehicle are documented.
>> I know my rights and I know that that that's highly illegal.
>> Well, that's what this sheet's here for.
You can also pick a copy of it up at the Livingston Police Department. Do you know who all this stuff back here belongs to?

>> Can we avoid get the Let me Let me Can I >> You can You can tell me or you can give me the guy that ran in the house that was driving it and maybe we can talk about not getting on the tow truck.
>> All right. Um he's inside.
>> Where at? You want to take me in there to where he is?
>> Yeah.
>> Is there only this door and then the front door?
>> Front door There's only two doors that I'm aware of.

So, he ran from us into a field, came back, got in his car, and then another officer who was traveling at a very, very high rate of speed. We then find the vehicle and because that vehicle was is involved in that incident that happened at the Lexington Inn, we were able to tow that vehicle because it's evidence. At the point where we were out there, we have a gentleman that lives here, comes outside, and he's like, "Hey, that's my mom's car." And we're like, "Listen, man, it was involved in this. We're going to tow it." And he didn't want his car to get towed.
So, we told him, I said, "Do you like Do you know who's driving it?" And then he told us who it was. And then he said, "In order for his car not to get towed, he would allow us to come inside the residence to search for him and only him."

As part of a plea agreement, he pled guilty to the two resisting [music] and evading charges while the others were dropped. Mackie was sentenced on those charges, and in April of 2025, the New Mexico Court of Appeals upheld [music] his judgment and sentence, noting that officers were enforcing a warrant and court order when entering the residence, and also had permission to enter from an occupant, [music] and also made entry under exigent / emergency circumstances with knowledge that a fleeing felon may unlawfully be inside the residence.
