[00:00:00]Today, I’m going to show you an experiment  that will clearly answer the question: what is a tick actually afraid of? For this, I built a special "arena" out of four simple  ingredients you can find in any kitchen: At first, the tick confidently ran toward the  red pepper—it got up close, but the spicy powder still turned it away. The tick turned around  and dashed toward the vinegar line! It was too afraid to even get close to the vinegar.  Apparently, the harsh fumes hit its receptors so powerfully that the parasite just panicked  and fled to the opposite side of the arena.

[00:00:29]But on the other side, it was met by the  garlic, which also gave the tick a good scare and forced it to change course yet  again. In the end, the tick stumbled upon the vanillin... and it ran right through it  quickly, without noticing any barrier at all!
