Seriously, What is Happening with Wishing Coins?

[00:00:00]Animal Jam introduced the wishing coin in December of 2023 and since then it has become an immediate success. Since then, a wishing coin has been around a thousand sapphires according to the community on the MyShop Explorer. Well, except not anymore. What happened? I I don't know. Well, actually, I do know because I've been keeping track of data from previous eight months and we'll look at that together today. and maybe we could find some patterns and maybe we could see the reason why wishing coins doubled in price in 8 months. Okay, so this is my wishing coin index or WCI for short. I have been once per day updating the values of the lowest price of a wishing coin on the shop explorer and that is without an outlier. So for example, if someone puts one for 600 and it gets bought instantly, it's not going to be put on this list. But otherwise, it's uh it's pretty accurate. As you can see here, it is a ton of data. And I mean, just doing something daily for quite a bit of time does add up. With all this data, we could do one thing, and that's graph it to see how the different values of wishing coins were throughout this 8 months of data that I collected. So, yeah, right here is the wishing coin index from November all the way up to July. Right now, the data started down here with the lowest price around 900 in November. And you could see for a while that 1,000 right here was the good mark or what um if this was a bond, it would be the par value. It stayed around a,000 for a good amount of time. There's parts like February here where it stayed above like 1,200,300 for a bit, but then it went back to down to 1,000 for and stayed like that. But then after May, it hasn't been lower than a,000 since. And now it's up to 1,800. You might think, oh, it's because of the kitsoons, but the kids released around here. So, this was even before that. It's pretty impressive that somehow the value doubled in honestly a couple months because before this it has been always around a thousand for two years basically although I don't have the data to back that up. Refining coins were introduced in March of this year and have become a gamecher. Apologies my computer fan keeps turning on constantly. Anyway, refining coins were introduced [music] in March of this year and have become complete game changers for everything related to mythical animals. In fact, I feel like the refining coins are what actually made me start caring about mythical animals a little bit because before then, I have such bad luck I was never able to get anything actually cool. Now, I could technically look at the shop explorer, see something that could be cool, and use refining coins to make it cool.

[00:02:51]After time, of course, and after a lot of refining coins. I'll explain that a little bit. Here we have a ton of data, too. Although not as much as the normal wishing coin index, I could show you what I collected within four months of time. And this was, of course, through two cycles of the refining coins being out and now being back out of stores.

[00:03:12]So, this is how the refining coins looked from the time period. So, this is March here. Uh, there was one day before the refining coins actually released.

[00:03:21]they accidentally got released in anyone buying a wishing coin bundle. So, they popped up for 4,000 there. But otherwise, they started at around 1,200 and by the time that they were out in like uh March, the end of March here, they went up to around 1,800 when they left. [music] After that, obviously, they had a little bit of uh churn time to actually get back up to 4,000.

[00:03:52]And then around here, this is when kitsune's released, they went up to easily 4,500 plus.

[00:04:02]Couple days later, they're up to 5,000 and stayed up to 5,000 for until they re-released on July 1st. And then now they're slowly rising again. Refining coins are similar to the super party favor potions which similar to the wish refining coin. I also track the super party favor potion. Another limited time item.

[00:04:27]I started back in November about a day before they actually released by coincidence only. And they dropped immediately down to 3,000 once releasing again. And then they jumped down low as the to 2400 and went all [music] the way up to 5,000 in January. Only took around two months for them to reach 5,000.

[00:04:46][music] So what does this have to do with the normal wishing coin? Well, uh, all these items are what you call consumables. And they're also quote unquote currency item. And basically all these items were and still are some sort of currency when people trade. So, some big events regarding these consumable items that I just mentioned on the wishing coin index. What actually made each bump and each [music] dip happen?

[00:05:11]Cuz each bump and dip does have a story behind it, just like how the stock market works. A couple of these big events include the announcement to trade offers and trade offers in general. Once the trade offer system was introduced, the biggest thing that came from it is now there is no 24 item limit [music] sending a trade when technically it's against the rules to actually send a trade two trades to do one transaction before these offers came out. It was very hard to get let's say 25 wishing coins for your blackout spike collar.

[00:05:45]Now with the offers, one person can send all of them on one side and the other person can accept in one button. And those 33 wishing coins, for example, for your blackout spike happens in one trade is completely legal. A lot of people, especially players using um bigger items like forest gauntlets and blackout spike collars trying to trade down their items, use wishing coins specifically because they're always wanted. They always have demand and they are always with a stable currency worth behind them, which used to be around a thousand sapphires. For example, I did actually trade a couple blackout spike collars for 33 wishing coins each about a year ago. Well, the blackout spike collar doubled in worth. The wishing coins also doubled in worth, although they doubled in worth a little bit later. The other big events that happened, [music] the release and re-release of the wish refining coin, which I obviously mentioned earlier, these refining coins did one thing, and that was dethrone the wishing coin from being the best purchase you can make with real money in Animal Jam. Back from 2023 until before wishing refining coins released, the best purchase you can make with your money was buying wishing coins for the $20 or whatever price it is and reselling those wishing coins for sapphire because why would you buy the sapphires from the official premium shop? [music] It is the worst conversion you can ever do. So most people if they were going to use real money went to go buy wishing and that's why there were a ton on the shop explorer. Now that the refining coin bundles exist, many people seem [music] to have chosen to buy the refining coin bundles because first off, they're limited, and second off, if they're limited, the price will go higher per coin later on. And you get 33 in the big pack where you only [music] get 15 wishing coins in the big pack of wishing coins. So, you almost get double your money even if they were the same price. But then you think, "Oh, the refining coins can maybe go up to 5,000 sapphires or more per coin before they're re-released again." You make tons and tons of sapphires off of just a $20 purchase. A lot of players, from what I've seen at least, have stopped buying wishing coin bundles and instead buy the refining coin bundles with their real money because I mean, if you're getting more sapphires for the same dollar, why wouldn't you buy the refining? Now that the refining coins are gone again, we may see wishing coins lower in price again because people are buying them with real money again, which they weren't doing for about two weeks.

[00:08:14]Another idea could of course be the kitsoon release. Everyone knew kitsoons were releasing probably since the Phoenix released in December, which meant these animals had crazy buildup.

[00:08:26]They were the most hyped mythical animal ever. And if you ever check the shop explorer on the first day of the release, it went easily over 1,000 pages of kitsoons on there, which is the most ever for any release of a mythical animal. As a result of that, big hype means big wishing coin prices. Wishing coins went up to around 1,500 sapphires per coin on the day of release, and people were buying them like crazy because most people wish with their sapphires. They're already rich.

[00:08:58]What's the harm in spending a couple grand on a couple wishing coin? As a result of that, the wishing coin price went up more and more over the next couple weeks. This isn't an event, but this is something that happened very often and started probably around a year ago. And this was something that I did as well. The idea is to buy low, sell high. Wishing coins are, of course, a consumable item. Most of them will be used within the day of their purchase.

[00:09:22]They don't stay around a lot. And if the wishing coin ever went off sale for some reason, you better believe that they would go up in price astronomically quick cuz a lot of people don't have them in their inventories. They don't really save them. It's kind of like oil.

[00:09:35]When you have oil getting produced right now, like across the world, all the different barrels of oil get consumed.

[00:09:42]And if there's no way to refill that, the price will go up as a result. And that's kind of what's happening right now. Getting back to Animal Jam, if you buy low and sell high, if you have the amount of money, the collateral to start with, like let's say you had 50,000 Sapphire and you had the collateral to start with it, you could buy 50 wishing coins for 800 each. Absolutely absurd nowadays price-wise, but a year ago, you could probably find wishing coins for 800 sapphires each. You could buy them for 800, and then you know, oh, they'll go back up to a,000 in a week or two.

[00:10:14]you hold on to them, you make 200 profit per coin times 50 coins. I think that's 10,000 sapphires profit for basically free. So, a lot of people have done that as a result. And since people buy these coins more and more for a higher and higher price, that threshold has gotten higher and higher. Coins for 1,000 sapphires sell instantly now. Even 1,500 right now instantly sell. you only get to around 1,800 sapphires where it takes a little bit of time to actually see it sell from off the shop explorer, which is insane. Okay, now for some events that went in the opposite direction and actually made wishing coins go down in price along with everything else that cost sapphires.

[00:10:57]So, some events that happened within the past 8 months include the Black Friday event of 2025. That event when it comes yearly takes a lot of sapphires because the main way to actually get all your your new items is through the sapphire, especially with the sapphire pet tokens costing 400 each. People have been down on their luck and were needing the cold hard sapphires and not any collateral.

[00:11:22]So, they had to put their collateral up for sale. And that included wishing cuz there are people that have hundreds and hundreds of these either getting ready to have a jamble session or just holding on to them for a rainy day when they need the sapphires. And that point is when they needed them. This also happened in March of this year with the shamrock parasauralophus, however you say that, with those eggs costing 250 each and they also had a chance to get a golden. So, a lot of people opened a ton of eggs. People needed a ton of sapphires since if you open four eggs, there goes 1,000 sapphires. And also the extravaganza. This year was the final year that alpha windup keys were in the eggs. Any time that you made a ruby egg with 1,000 sapphires after leveling it to five, that was 1,000 sapphires gone.

[00:12:16]The wishing coin prices were down because most people don't have 50,000 sapphires. Most people have 5,000 or less. So, it makes sense.

[00:12:27]And then you look at the similarities of the WCI to the real stock market and you see that's very interesting.

[00:12:35]It's just a joke, of course. But yeah, it's funny. Okay, I also want to mention one other thing.

[00:12:41]I wish that there was a guarantee for these wish refining coins and wishing coins because a lot of people have used a ton of coins and got and did not get what they wanted.

[00:12:52]And while yes, that is just how odds work, at the same time, especially when these coins cost real money, I think it would be worth having an actual guarantee like in gotcha games like Genchin Impact, because at that point, even if you are someone that's unlucky, you still get what you want after so many tries. It could be a high number.

[00:13:15]That's fine. But something like people that aren't lucky like me might be able to actually win a legendary for once. I wonder if you noticed, but if you go back to my wishing coin index Excel sheet, you might have seen a number that was growing little by little as time went on. That number was the amount of wishing coins I personally did in order to get a legendary. I started keeping track a couple months ago and I think I'm up to 114 wishes now. Still no legendaries. I did a 50 wishing session on July 4th to celebrate the 250th anniversary of America. And I got one epic out of all those. For every one person that does two coins and gets a legendary, there are people like me that do 50 and get one epic.

[00:14:08]Same thing with refining coins. this guy here on the screen right now. How many wishes do you think it took for him to get the astral wings? The fancy wings that are on the phoenix's that give them cool flames coming out with the because he has a light element. They're yellow flames. 134.

[00:14:26]This is the amount that 134 refining [music] coins will cost with real money if I bought them with real money. I think for something like this, if you're not lucky, 100 max. 134. I've heard people that said it took 600 for the same thing to get astral wings on their Phoenix. 600.

[00:14:46]If you saved up those coins and actually got them for 5,000 each, you know how much sapphires that would cost. All right, enough rambling.
