[00:00:12]We are back and as we promised, we're going to be talking about a very pertinent conversation and topic, mental wellness among the youth because many youth are out here looking good on the outside. They look vibrant. They look strong. But deep down some of them are fighting with internal struggles that if we are not careful to address it blows up and before we know it some have committed suicide, some are sinking in depression and especially at such a time as this where the nation is facing uh crisis of all of all kinds. The youth are the most affected. So we felt that it's good that we talk about mental wellness among the youth. How can we help our young people because they are our future leaders. So we need to preserve them right now. We need to help them so that they can grow to be the leaders we aspire in the future that we are looking forward to. And helping us with this awesome awesome conversation is Reverend Dr. Mugami who is here with us and we're going to hear from him some more about his passion for the youth and also just to help us unpack this conversation of today. [00:01:46]>> That's good. You look vibrant like a youth.

[00:01:52]>> Thank you. You have to stay young.

[00:01:56]>> Thank you.

[00:01:57]>> Yes. Maybe give us a brief introduction of yourself.

[00:02:00]>> Oh yes. I am Reverend Dr. Mugami Muku as you have said uh married to one beautiful wife Lucio Wangjiko >> and uh we run a ministry is an NGO called National Christian Youth Network.

[00:02:17]Wow.

[00:02:17]>> Uh better known for the Jesus night event.

[00:02:21]Yes, >> which have raised a lot of uh renowned artists uh in Kenya and even out uh and all over the world.

[00:02:32]>> And uh we are back. We actually meeting every first Friday >> at Zuri Premier Cuisines on Nagakan Walk from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

[00:02:44]>> So we open that door for our young people and they're talented to come. We raise their God-given talent every first Friday. Even on 5th of June, we will be there and we give glory to God.

[00:02:58]>> And I'm also the senior pastor, Glory Christian Church.

[00:03:02]>> Amazing.

[00:03:03]>> That's beautiful.

[00:03:04]>> Awesome. What What really led you to get into how did you start now the the the youth ministry especially?

[00:03:12]>> Yeah. Uh it is a calling that's for sure. Many people ask how did you hear God?

[00:03:19]Did you see the burning bush?

[00:03:22]>> But I could relate to the young people so well >> and again to look into their issues because many times they overlooked and they are there to be seen and not to be heard but they carry a lot and indeed in my heart there was a passion and there is even today burning to seek what is in the young people. What has God put in there? And indeed, not to waste it away because a lot of times they are told you are leaders of tomorrow. You you have to wait. Your time has not yet come. But if you go through the Bible, a lot of those who are called, they were called at their young age.

[00:04:02]>> Whether it's Ha, whether it's David, >> all of them, even Moses is calling came late. But he was being prepared in the young age. God never ignored.

[00:04:14]>> Yeah.

[00:04:15]>> So at the end of the day even Jesus >> he started his ministry at that that is youth >> and by that three >> he was already accomplished.

[00:04:26]>> So this uh kind of a notion >> that your time is not yet.

[00:04:32]>> You have your season and every season counts.

[00:04:37]>> So let you not look like you are living a rehearsal. M >> today is 21st of May 2026.

[00:04:45]>> The way you spend this day is gone.

[00:04:48]>> It's not going to come back again. That day of the character is gone.

[00:04:53]>> So do not live your life like it's a rehearsal. It's good to live it to the fullest. As Jesus says, I came that you may have life and have it more >> abundant.

[00:05:04]Amen. Amen. And amen. And that is powerful. And especially now as we get into our conversation of the day, as we look at >> especially the mental wellness among the youth and I know you interact with so many uh young people of diverse backgrounds and all and and and you will agree with me that as as Betric alluded to as we were beginning in terms of from the outside they will look okay and uh yet deep down they are struggling with so many things. They are grappling with so many things in in in them and within them.

[00:05:41]>> How do they protect themselves from mental breakdown?

[00:05:47]>> Yeah. You see today the it's the digital age >> and a lot are influenced by the social media.

[00:05:57]>> There's a lot of hype in the social media. But many times what they don't know >> is what you see on the social media is not at all real.

[00:06:07]>> You may not take a photo or a video from where you live.

[00:06:13]>> But the moment you get to a big hotel >> at uh Wales airport, even if you wouldn't get on the plane, >> but you floss. And for the young people, >> they may not differentiate between that which is real and what is fantasy.

[00:06:34]>> And so this makes them to aspire >> to live like that.

[00:06:40]>> And that you are not able to offer that life today >> with the kind of the global economic challenges that we are faced with. Yeah, >> you see a young person who is here going to a campus here >> but when they are going to look for host they are comparing to those which are in UK >> and and you won't find that host that level of host you won't find it here >> so that may create the mental health issues whereby you try >> to live a life M >> that you're not able to attain and nobody is there to tell you >> this is not real.

[00:07:25]>> This is not real. It's like we say this a microwave generation >> whereby you watch a movie and everything happens in one and a half hours and you believe life should be like that.

[00:07:38]>> That's just Hollywood putting a script together. So in real life you have to have more patience. You have to go through life with an understanding >> that everything does not happen overnight.

[00:07:52]>> Yeah. Moses waited 40 years >> for that calling.

[00:07:56]>> Yeah.

[00:07:57]>> Abraham and Sarah waited 100 years, 90 years. So at the end of the day is good to go at your pace. It's good to go at the pace that you are comfortable and you are able. You are in your lane. M >> you shouldn't be competing with anybody.

[00:08:16]>> Feel secure and loved and well uh grounded in what God has called you to do.

[00:08:24]>> Pursue. Do not succumb to the pressure of in this family we want doctors, >> we want lawyers, we want engineers.

[00:08:34]If if you don't measure to that, >> there are some people playing football today who have more money >> than any doctor.

[00:08:42]>> That's true.

[00:08:43]>> There are people singing today >> who have made a name and a lot more money. So at the end of the day it's important to appreciate who the young person is >> such that they know >> that whatever God has made them and called them to be it is well >> do not put undue pressure >> on a young person to where they feel >> that I'm not accepted >> I'm not celebrated.

[00:09:14]>> Yeah. If there's one who is doing better in school, they told why can't you be like so and so.

[00:09:20]>> So that is too much pressure. Look at where their talent is, >> what they are called to do. We cannot all be doctors.

[00:09:29]>> We cannot all be engineers.

[00:09:32]>> If we all become engineers, who is going to drive them?

[00:09:39]Who is going to do these other jobs? So we have to look at a balanced world and appreciate everybody for what God has called them to be >> and value them.

[00:09:51]>> That's amazing. And I think you've alluded to a question that I wanted to ask and maybe you can add more to it.

[00:09:57]What are some of the pressures that the youth are going through and especially because you deal with them um most of the time? What are some of the recurring pressures that you see the youth going through that maybe go unressed?

[00:10:11]You see now >> the peer pressure.

[00:10:14]>> Yeah.

[00:10:14]>> And also the pressure from now the parents also as I'm saying you tell them you want to be this >> but you are not asking them what they would like to pursue. Like I know a young person >> who the dad said you have to pursue law because I'm a renowned lawyer. I have a law firm who is going to take after me.

[00:10:39]M >> and the young man was sharp but law was not what he wanted to do.

[00:10:44]>> He wanted to pursue music.

[00:10:46]>> Wow.

[00:10:46]>> But the dad enrolled him in university, pursued law, went until to be accepted to the bar.

[00:10:55]>> But he took all those photos and the certificates and gave the dad and told him now you can hang in the house. You can hang this in the office and when your friends come tell them your son is a lawyer. that I have to go pursue what I feel, >> my heart and my soul and everything in me wants to pursue >> and in that you may not understand as a grownup why they choose this over the other.

[00:11:24]>> Yes.

[00:11:25]>> So what I would say is that any pressure because actually our mental wellness issue comes about >> how do you go nuts? How do you go crazy?

[00:11:38]is when you think something over, you get to the end of it, you have no solution.

[00:11:43]>> You start over again, you think through, you come to the end of it, there's no solution. And that's how you start losing your mind. So let's not put undue pressure on our young people.

[00:11:57]>> Those who are called to go to TVET, let them pursue those courses. They are very marketable.

[00:12:03]>> Yes. And those who are then blessed with being doctors, being lawyers, being in all those careers, let them do it. But let them chart their own path and you support through it. M >> there are those who go out there we interact now they are from central they come with a very nice little guy >> and they are told again at accept the dow from there >> what are you doing >> these are two young people Yeah.

[00:12:48]>> Who tribe is not a boundary.

[00:12:50]>> No.

[00:12:50]>> But now you're coming to tell them you cannot be married by the person who has shown you love and your heart has gone to them by the mere fact that they come from a region that we believe >> we cannot >> intermar.

[00:13:10]>> You need to really bridge that >> and tell them it is well.

[00:13:15]>> We are all the same. We are Kenyans.

[00:13:18]>> Cultures are diverse and is a beauty.

[00:13:21]>> The more different we are, the more united we should be.

[00:13:25]>> Therefore, let's know >> why lose do this different from us.

[00:13:30]Let's interact. Let's support this couple. Yep.

[00:13:34]>> Rather than taking them down that uh route of getting into mental distress.

[00:13:43]>> Yeah.

[00:13:43]>> Yeah.

[00:13:44]There there are different uh I'm I'm trying to look at it in terms of >> yes >> warning signs >> and and you have said it >> and rightly so >> that uh growing up the young people are there to be seen >> and not to be heard.

[00:14:02]>> Yes. And uh that that is not the case because we are now having a generation that is very >> outgoing. That that that for them we are here and you will listen to us >> you know and different people they have different perceptions of that. There are those who will say it's disrespectful.

[00:14:24]There are others who will say well they it's it's a it's a nice thing. talk to this family and talk to these parents >> who have not encouraged their young person, their daughter or their son >> to to speak out. And by by speaking out, I mean when they're going through stuff in life, when they're going through challenges and so you find that this person is battling so many things alone.

[00:14:53]So there there there is loneliness, there is anxiety, there is uncertainity and it is bordering on depression.

[00:15:03]>> So how can they be able to uh to share >> knowing that they will be listened to?

[00:15:09]They will not because again >> with this generation >> you need to be careful not to be seen to be judging them.

[00:15:18]>> That's the thing.

[00:15:19]>> So how how how do we >> Yes.

[00:15:21]>> Help us as parents.

[00:15:25]you find uh as you have rightfully put it, >> a lot of the young people are totally distressed because many times like if you get on TikTok >> is one video after another they may not even get enough sleep, >> not watching a series or anything. And that disruption of sleep and all that may cause stress because when as a parent you want them to be active in the day they are very sleepy.

[00:15:54]>> And uh sometimes we need to understand that there's a generational gap >> and to bridge that generational gap has to be very deliberate >> in the sense that we have two ears and one mouth. The problem we have as parent many time is wanting to use the mouth more than the ears.

[00:16:19]>> Do we listen to our young people?

[00:16:21]>> And when we purport to listen, do we hear what they say >> and know they have a brain of their own?

[00:16:30]>> Or do you want them to accept whatever you say without them questioning?

[00:16:37]>> You see, that is why he says we think they are disrespectful. M >> they are disrespectful because we don't want them to talk back to us. M >> they just have to listen listen and once they listen whatever they had in mind they can keep it >> and that is where the challenge is >> because probably uh the former generations were good at following orders and asking questions later >> but these ones have to ask for everything you tell them >> they have to ask questions you have to be ready to Explain >> why do I have to come home by 700 p.m.

[00:17:22]And not >> take eight.

[00:17:25]>> Yeah. As we were told by 7 be at home and you knew that you are there.

[00:17:35]>> So they will ask you why >> why daddy why mom and you sometime you come late and now we were told as we are parent we can do whatever we want. They say even as we are children we can do whatever we want.

[00:17:50]Yeah.

[00:17:50]>> And now you starting not under my roof.

[00:17:53]Whenever you are here, you have to do as I have to come reason with them.

[00:18:02]>> Even as young as they are, >> they are looking at somebody talking and reasoning >> and also is a very informed generation.

[00:18:13]These young people are very informed.

[00:18:14]Information is everywhere. Everywhere.

[00:18:17]Yeah. So whenever you are coming with this remember you have to have the right information. Yeah. Because the moment you tell them this even as you talk they are looking online and telling you whatever you are saying I don't think is right. Yeah. So the parents have to be more patient the the guardians even the teachers even us as pastors you have to be more patient with them. You have to really listen and uh even the government I would encourage them listen to these young people they have great ideas >> they if they implemented we can have >> the Singapore we have been dreaming about >> yeah so some of these things do not sweep them under the rug >> do not say hey these ones wait them for them to grow uh these are lost generation those are terms we don't need to use we need to listen to them.

[00:19:15]>> Pick of what is positive and what it is that they want to be done.

[00:19:21]>> Don't purport that you know.

[00:19:23]>> Listen.

[00:19:24]>> Wow, that's really good. And I'm also thinking of something that I think sometimes we may fail at being intentional about. The Bible says to bring up a child in the way they should go and when they are older they will not depart from it. That even when sometimes they stray, they will find their way back. Yes. Talk about why it's important to as parents be intentional about helping the young to be grounded in the word of God and in a relationship with God even as they are growing up rather than try to do damage control later. Why is it important for us to start while they are still young?

[00:20:02]>> Actually that scripture and proverbs 226 >> uh is very powerful.

[00:20:09]>> Yeah. because it's like you planting a seed >> and you're watering that. But the growth, the increase is given by God.

[00:20:20]>> And you'll find those parents who raise their children in the ways of the Lord.

[00:20:26]>> They pray for them.

[00:20:28]>> They may stray as you say, >> but they will come on track. They will come back in the fold in due time >> because whatever has been sown in their life will not dry up.

[00:20:41]>> It will not wither.

[00:20:43]>> It may suffer some setbacks at times but they that voice will still come back and speak to them >> and tell them your mom used to say this.

[00:20:54]Your dad prayed for you. They put this scripture for you. So those things will come back. Do not think you're wasting your time and do not think all is lost when you see them stray.

[00:21:07]>> They will still come back in the fold.

[00:21:09]Do not give up on them >> because Job never gave up on his children.

[00:21:15]>> Yeah.

[00:21:15]>> Yeah. Even when they went for the party all night, >> the next day you still come make a sacrifice and repent for them. So as parent do not be tired >> of really bringing your children back to the fold >> because many times that comes in where you say >> we are not going to do anything about it.

[00:21:43]>> We have paid fees enough time. We have taken them to a rehab enough time. We have done this. So they count what they done and no changes. But as long as you keep the testimonies building up, they will come to testify of what the Lord has done and they will appreciate one day that you never gave up on me.

[00:22:04]>> Yeah. Yeah. Because that is one of the biggest uh things that are happening in families. You have different families.

[00:22:11]There's that family that is able to embrace >> their child regardless. Yes. You know they may be weward >> not in in a way to you know encourage what they are doing. No but they keep showing love.

[00:22:27]>> They keep encouraging them. They keep talking to them with a lot of love with a lot of compassion.

[00:22:33]>> But then again there is another family that you know as you have said me I gave up on him I gave up on her. Um I actually chase them out of my house. You know because that is what especially from our African setup >> you you cannot stay in my house doing certain things and so we are kicking them now >> and yet there is this very big yuning world >> that is waiting to embrace them.

[00:23:03]>> Yeah. you know is where they were saying when the child does very well they belong to their father. Whoever does bad in your mama.

[00:23:11]>> Mama. Yes.

[00:23:13]>> But as a parent you should own up >> to your children no matter what.

[00:23:18]>> And uh you find that when you do not give them that love and support, >> it will be very hard as you saying cuz when they go to the world they will just be used. M >> nobody cares >> for these young people out there.

[00:23:35]>> They will find a cy and a world that is going to beat them to the c.

[00:23:41]>> So it's very important as family as parent to really understand and not give up on them.

[00:23:49]>> Yeah. Such that they need that social, emotional and even spiritual support.

[00:23:55]>> Yeah.

[00:23:56]>> Yeah. And and that way you find that they will they may resist it for a while. They may try to play tough, >> but everybody will get to a point >> where they'll break under that love, under that concern.

[00:24:12]>> And you'll see it. It will come. Even the hardest of them, the most hard, >> it will get to a point >> where they will accept and then change begins from there.

[00:24:25]>> Yeah. Yeah, >> because we are told when we were still sinners, >> Christ died for us.

[00:24:32]>> So many times as parents, we also forget where you came from.

[00:24:39]>> There's something that you you you've mentioned and it has reminded me something >> and and and it's it's happening in our nation.

[00:24:48]>> Yeah.

[00:24:49]>> It's a case of young people. I'm talking of now the levels of immorality that is there >> whereby now you hear people are saying I will not get married but they are hooking up with married men >> or vice versa >> so it's a young man >> and instead of him you know waiting and doing the right thing and starting his own family >> he gets now hooked up with an older woman and all and and it has Before it was in harsh tones, >> but now even when you look at social media, >> Yeah.

[00:25:28]>> people are openly saying that I'm in such a >> relationship, >> a relationship.

[00:25:33]>> Yeah.

[00:25:34]>> And and and they are saying if you want, I can actually hook you up.

[00:25:38]>> You You get?

[00:25:39]>> Wow. And and those are the levels of wickedness >> that our people, our young people, >> sons, daughters, brothers and sisters, that is the world that they are living in and the world that is awaiting them.

[00:25:55]>> How do you how do we help >> those who are >> not yet there >> and also for them who have fallen into that trap? How also do we help them to get because for sure that is not God's will over their lives.

[00:26:12]>> Not at all.

[00:26:14]>> Actually, you remember when there was the Jenzi protest, they said what they fear most.

[00:26:19]>> Oh yes.

[00:26:21]>> One of the things they fear most is marriage.

[00:26:24]>> And uh you can tell is a deception of the enemy.

[00:26:28]>> This thing of uh one in soft life.

[00:26:31]>> Yes. where somebody purports to really be providing for you >> but they are not on the other side showing you what you pay for it.

[00:26:42]>> Yeah.

[00:26:43]>> Because let's say today you are a young lady. You hook up with a man.

[00:26:49]>> We call him baba, call him sponsor, whatever you want to term as being. M >> but this guy as a family >> would not sacrifice his wife and children >> for you.

[00:27:03]>> So he's holding your life to where no young person could approach you >> because you >> and they are afraid of what the baba may do to them. Yeah.

[00:27:16]>> So you pass the years, you are they settle down and you are there with your baba >> and one day you will drop you >> after you are used up and your time has passed.

[00:27:31]>> So it's a lie of the devil.

[00:27:34]>> Yeah.

[00:27:34]>> Telling you that it's a good life.

[00:27:38]>> You see what is good in the meantime.

[00:27:41]You have to look at it. As you see the word of God asks what good is it if you gain the whole world and lose your soul >> your own soul.

[00:27:52]>> So at the end of the day it is very very important and I would also uh caution those in the older generation who are misleading these young people.

[00:28:05]>> Yeah. fall a fling >> which is just for a short time >> and then you know you're not going anywhere with them.

[00:28:13]>> Yeah.

[00:28:14]>> What are you going to do with them?

[00:28:16]You're wasting their future away. You have lived your life >> and you know you're using them >> for whatever means you have. Please stop it.

[00:28:24]>> Yeah.

[00:28:26]>> And for the young people, >> the advice is only one. M >> when Joseph was faced with potass >> the only thing he did was flee >> free for your life is fleegiving whatever you drop there flee >> wow that's really good >> flee yeah because the more you dil the Delhi entertaining pot's wife, you waste away your life.

[00:29:02]>> It's true. And it's true.

[00:29:03]>> And sorry, sorry, sorry for that. Just just to add up because I I want us to go with the same thought process. I'm I'm thinking of parents.

[00:29:11]>> Yeah.

[00:29:11]>> You know, your your child, your daughter, your son is a student, >> all right? They're in university and you pay their school fees and all. But when they coming back home, >> they come back home with a car, >> with a very big shopping for you.

[00:29:31]>> Yet you know the amount of money you give them, >> but you don't question.

[00:29:36]>> Talk to those parents as well.

[00:29:39]>> When a parent like that starts saying hallelujah.

[00:29:41]>> Exactly.

[00:29:43]>> And you know the Lord has blessed the daughter of my son. Please parent is very important. You know what your son or your daughter is doing.

[00:29:52]>> Yes.

[00:29:53]>> Because even if they come and tell you I'm dating somebody of means who can provide this, you cannot celebrate because you didn't set them >> to college >> or to campus to date.

[00:30:08]>> It was for studies. And therefore uh when they bring that shopping >> uh you could talk to them >> and tell them please this is not right.

[00:30:23]>> They may not hear it right then but >> if possible as a hard stance to show you do not support you could even refuse that shopping >> in a nice way. Tell them I won't take this >> as I show that you are not with them in this >> because the moment you keep taking that shopping you are going to take in the person >> who is bringing in that shopping.

[00:30:54]>> Yeah.

[00:30:55]>> You cannot eat of the devil and not pay of it.

[00:30:58]>> That I can tell you for sure.

[00:31:00]>> Yeah. So the moment you keep entertaining, they will ask you to the face where did you think all these things were coming from?

[00:31:09]>> Yeah. Yeah.

[00:31:10]>> And that will be a hard question to answer.

[00:31:13]>> So the best thing tell them no I won't take a shopping. I don't know where it's coming from and I suspect >> this you are not given from school.

[00:31:24]>> So wherever it came from just return it.

[00:31:27]>> Yeah.

[00:31:28]>> Wow. That's important. And I'm just thinking of the recent cases as well.

[00:31:33]We've had relationships going sour.

[00:31:36]>> Uh boyfriends killing the little girls, you know. I mean, we had even a case of somebody stabbing >> the partner in broad daylight. These are things that are happening. So when it comes to navigating relationships, talk to the youth about it and how they can guard their hearts.

[00:31:53]>> Yeah. It's very important from the word God to have boundaries. Yeah, >> boundaries are very important >> because what happens in those kind >> of actions is uh where they call them crime of passion or whatever that may be >> is whereby you think it's love but in actual sense it's infactuation >> which is very strong >> and which is very possessive and very jealous >> such that if you love somebody for who they are. Even if they leave, you let them go.

[00:32:32]>> But if it's infactuation, it's very jealous.

[00:32:35]>> Yeah.

[00:32:36]>> And you may think it's love, but it's not. It's like where you want somebody, you are like, I can't find them with somebody else.

[00:32:44]>> And even those stories, it's not like somebody is cheating, but because of the passion and that kind of infactuation that has taken over you, >> if you are told M >> uh George and Petrice were found some place having lunch. You start already building a story in your mind >> and that's why you crash because of that uh insecurity within yourself.

[00:33:12]>> The lady will say hey me >> I don't think I can deal with this. And now you start boiling up saying ah so what I was thinking is true.

[00:33:25]>> Yeah. And it's it's not there. But it is very important for these young people to have the boundaries because the moment you give your body to somebody >> who is not your wife or your husband >> then you are joined to that person >> and people think probably it's just a thing of their body. It's just physical but it's deeper.

[00:33:51]>> It's very spiritual.

[00:33:53]>> Yep. And that is why you find some people have multiple personalities.

[00:33:59]Yeah. Because they are going with this person with the other person. They are being joined.

[00:34:04]>> So the person you find in the morning is very different. In the afternoon is very different in the evening. They don't know there's a spiritual activity. The devil uses that gateway and really terrorizes people because every person you join to is not just physical, it's also spiritual. So I would encourage our young people to abstain.

[00:34:26]>> Abstain until the Lord settles you down >> is very very important. Don't go giving yourself away.

[00:34:35]chips >> her values, selfrespect, self love even >> I I don't know uh growing up there was this organization called Nakada that was uh you know drugs and substance abuse >> and uh >> and and and and they were so big and so loud.

[00:34:58]>> I don't know what happened because maybe their visibility is not as loud as it was then.

[00:35:04]Yeah, >> drugs and substance abuse still remains a threat >> to the young people >> because for them and for some they feel that is the only gateway >> to numb my emotions >> to to to to to hide my emotional pain, my trauma and also mental distress.

[00:35:26]H how how are all those things connected and how can a a young person remain you know sober and and clean?

[00:35:35]>> Yeah. And I once volunteered also with Nakanda a lot >> and I wish Nakanda would give the voice that it was.

[00:36:06]>> Whereby when you are high you forget everything. You know >> there were some young people who are seated uh here in town >> and uh one of them after getting high was looking at Hton Hotel >> and telling his friend what do you think I should do with it?

[00:36:30]>> Dude, I think that receptionist needs to go. So this is showing you things that are not there.

[00:36:38]>> True.

[00:36:39]>> And is for a moment.

[00:36:41]>> And then the other thing that they forget is that those who introduce you to drugs, they'll give you the first dose, the second, the third day when you go, they tell you to there's nothing for free here.

Many times uh they don't even have to go to a pub. They have to set up some place outside and enjoy.

[00:37:48]>> So in actual sense uh it's very important for the young person to know from the word go >> that this will only ride you into trouble. It will not solve any problem.

[00:38:03]>> Yeah. And even if you hit a high, it's just for that time that you see like you on top of the world. Before you know it, you are down again.

[00:38:14]>> Yeah.

[00:38:14]>> And therefore also deal with the source.

[00:38:19]>> We need to know who are these people >> trafficking drugs >> selling drugs. Why are we hiding them all this time?

[00:38:28]>> Because somebody's doing a kill out of these drugs.

[00:38:32]>> Exactly. Well, they need to be busted.

[00:38:35]>> Needs to produce these people.

[00:38:37]>> We need to deal with them.

[00:38:39]>> Yeah.

[00:38:39]>> They should be in prison >> because they don't give this to their children.

[00:39:21]>> So we need to cut this before it gets out of hand.

[00:39:25]>> Yeah. We need to deal with it, >> face it such that as we are helping our young people, we have to know who is supplying these drugs because even as we in this studio today, >> yes, >> there are some who are being recruited into taking drugs.

[00:39:42]>> They in those dense.

[00:39:43]>> Yeah.

[00:39:44]>> Being recruited.

[00:39:46]>> So we have to deal with it from the source even as we help our young people to get over this. take them to counselor, take them to rehab, >> let them clean up, and then also bring them to churches where they can be prayed for and change their lives.

[00:40:04]>> And I love that you've mentioned churches because that's actually the direction I would want us to head. How can the church provide a safe space for the young people? Because I think some of them have gone to churches only to be judged and to feel like they feel out of place. So, how can the church provide that safe space to help them navigate through their mental wellness?

[00:40:27]>> You know, it's very easy.

[00:40:31]>> The church >> Mhm.

[00:40:33]>> you can tell how serious they are.

[00:40:35]>> Yeah.

[00:40:35]>> By going to their budget.

[00:40:38]>> Look at the overall budget and how much >> is given to the youth ministry.

[00:40:44]>> It's negligible. And that's the biggest constituency of the church.

[00:40:48]>> Yeah. But you take these youth activities >> they tell you scrap this scrap this scrap this leave this one and this one >> for the whole year because what will capture these young people is activities.

[00:41:02]>> Let's not kid ourselves.

[00:41:04]>> Yeah.

[00:41:05]>> They will not come because we are super spiritual church. We do kesas every night. Tell them go to a corner. No.

[00:41:12]These are people who can barely pray for 2 three minutes. M >> so don't kid yourself if you don't have activities >> which can attract them they were coming to church >> because this is fishing >> we are told we are fishers of >> of men >> I know most of us we like sausages >> but if you're going fishing you wouldn't prepare your bait with a sausage >> okay >> because that's not what the fish did. So let's not look at us as parents or whoever what we like ask ourselves what do these young people like prepare the bait well they like loud music they want to dance theirin is kicking nothing wrong with that if you don't give that to them they'll get it out there in the world and you blame them but the world has prepared their bit well >> such that is attracting the young people >> so as the church we should unapologetically go for their activities and those things that attract the young people. You see them storming into churches.

[00:42:25]>> You see them ask them what is it you like to do? Introduce it in church. Have a budget for it >> and you'll find that these young people are coming to church and then anything else you want to do, >> you can do. Even missionaries knew we are not going to go for education.

[00:42:45]>> So they brought about sugar, they brought about salt, they brought about clothes. So as you go there to get the sugar, >> yeah, >> you are told we are not giving anything until after the class.

[00:42:59]>> So mainly let's do those activities. M >> how many churches have recreative centers >> where you have sports, where you have pool tables, where you have all these things that young people may appreciate >> because if you keep it the conventional boring church, >> you won't find a lot of young people getting there. have activities where they are concerts.

[00:43:29]>> The music is what they really that attracts them.

[00:43:43]of God. You sh you using now that platform now also within minutes and you plant a seed and that seed will definitely grow and become something bigger >> once the fish has come to you now you decide do I want to fry do I want to grill do I want to boil but once it's on the high sea is not yours >> talk to this young person in terms of some routines or habits they can be able to >> build in themselves and in the process be able to be emotionally resilient and also be able to maintain mental wellness.

[00:44:22]>> One thing I'll say before we even look at what they need >> is uh the company.

[00:44:30]>> Wow, that's good.

[00:44:31]>> The company is very very important.

[00:44:34]Yeah, >> you'll find if I start hanging out with George, >> you'll rub some of him on me whether I know it or not.

[00:44:45]>> So, if you join uh peers >> who are partying, >> yeah, >> who are out there, >> they will rub it on you >> because they'll be calling, hey, this weekend where it's happening. So no matter how much you want to resist it, you'll find you're carried away.

[00:45:43]>> Because you taking a higher standard.

[00:45:46]>> It's like we say, I'm standing on this table and I'm trying to pull somebody up and they trying to pull me down.

[00:45:54]>> Who is easier to win?

[00:45:56]The one pulling you down will pull you down.

[00:45:59]>> So you need to hang with those who are on the table that you want to be and encourage each other on that table.

[00:46:06]>> Yeah.

[00:46:07]>> Otherwise if you start hanging with those >> down there saying you are winning s they will win you before you win them.

[00:46:15]>> So keep the company >> those close to you. Let them be those who are encouraging you in the right direction. M >> those who are when you tell them this what I want to pursue they encourage you >> they don't tell you that is not possible >> leave that for now as young people we have to enjoy life we have to have parties we have to do this and at the end of the day you find yourself drifting >> whether you want it or not >> true >> yeah and in no time whatever you purposed and whatever goals you had will be washed away.

[00:46:53]>> Therefore, is very important as you look at how you uh make your life work, >> how you're going to set your goals because it's for you to set for yourself and the mean to achieve.

[00:47:08]>> Because nobody else can do it for you >> for sure.

[00:47:11]>> It has to be you. Your parents may love you so much, >> but this as we say, sure, Christ is my personal savior. It has to be you personally taking the initiative and then you may struggle at first >> if you've not been doing so but with time you'll find you adapting to this lifestyle >> whereby >> you are able >> to now >> it's like just the way they say keeping fit.

[00:47:43]>> You have a craving for chips.

[00:47:48]Sometimes you may sleep off and find that you're eating what you did. But as you keep that discipline, you find you're losing cravings for the junk food. You are getting more healthy. It's the same thing. Once you set those goals, you say this is what I want to do.

[00:48:05]>> Now, get the right company. And then even if you slid off one or two times, don't beat yourself so hard. Say, I'll rise up again. I'll shake off the dust and I will get back on track. I'll do what is right.

[00:48:20]>> Yeah. And I love that you mentioned that because my next question was just to speak to the person who is feeling overwhelmed this morning. And some of them maybe it's because of their sin and they feel like God may not accept somebody like me because of the things that they've done and they've been caught up in this wave Christianity is boring but they are overwhelmed and they're just feeling confused. Yeah.

[00:48:42]>> How can they detangle their thoughts and where can they start? Where can they begin? How can we encourage that person?

[00:48:51]>> Yeah. Actually, the word of God says, >> "Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but rather be transformed by renewing >> of your mind."

[00:49:01]>> So the mind is a very powerful tool >> in the sense that >> where faith begins is not even in the heart, it's in the mind.

[00:49:11]>> Wow. The difference of those who make it and those who do not make it is just in the mind.

[00:49:18]>> And if you get a new mind, >> if you start encouraging yourself also words are very powerful, start speaking positively >> because the moment you say I see danger, I see darkness or I won't make it. The devil will use that and you're not going to make it. So keep encouraging yourself. See, as tough as it is, as the cost of will is so high, the Lord is still going be to be the one to drive me to where I need to go. No matter what happens around the world, I know that I'll make it. Again, as I've said, also relate with people who encourage you, >> not those who discourage you.

[00:50:02]>> Yeah. Because the look they give you, you are dying.

[00:50:09]But there's somebody else who come and say God use cancer, God use this, God is able.

[00:50:16]>> And they encourage you and you see you getting a life.

[00:50:20]>> Actually, I remember when I was in school and some boys said, "We'll make somebody sick tomorrow." And I was like, >> "No way. How can you do that?"

[00:50:32]>> Mhm. They said you see and actually they planned it so well that the guy who sleeps next to him in the dometry once he woke up said hey man what's wrong with you >> your eyes are looking so red are you okay >> then but I'm okay I'm well >> the moment he went to the dining to take his uji another two were there I where what's wrong with you today >> and he doesn't know they had talked with the other guy.

[00:51:08]>> By the time he got to class, the deskmate is asking, "Hey, have you come to class like this?"

[00:51:15]>> He dropped there.

[00:51:18]>> The matron was called rushed to hospital and when he got there the doctor say, "What is wrong?" He says, "I don't know, but I'm very sick."

[00:51:29]>> He asked, "How you know you're sick?" Is it I was told I'm very very sick.

[00:51:33]>> I was told >> but it's no sick is is what you being told >> takes actually the encouraging words are very very important.

[00:51:45]>> Yeah. Very very important especially for somebody who is down >> we need to encourage them.
