[00:00:00]there was a spike of anti-Asian incidents in many different countries from France to Canada, UK and so on. So what it tells me is that the world or the west or anywhere not not a part of Asia has had a very long and ambivalent relationship with Asia. Asia is vast and gigantic. But if we're just going to talk about China, East Asia, Southeast Asia, very long and ambivalent relationship built around conquest, desire, misunderstanding, hatred, fear, jealousy, envy, all these sentiments have been going around for centuries, and they continue to crystallize in the present moment simply because of the power and the presence and the rise of China. You can't actually separate anti-Asian sentiment domestically from anti-Asian feeling globally. Though the dynamic of anti-Asian hatred is an index for how the world has always been intertwined around questions of cultural desire and fear, but also capitalist expansion and competition.
