Extreme summer heat can silently damage kidneys through dehydration and heat stress, so protecting kidney health requires avoiding peak sun hours (11 AM-5 PM), maintaining 3-3.5 liters of daily fluid intake with healthy options like lemon water, buttermilk, and coconut water, avoiding excessive painkillers and outside food to prevent GI infections, and adjusting dialysis treatment for patients on renal replacement therapy.

Summer heat doesn’t just drain your energy — it can silently damage your kidneys too. 🚨💧Added:
Hi, this is Dr. Neha Singh, your kidney specialist. Let us look at few steps which will help to safeguard our kidney health during extreme summer conditions.
Avoid outdoor exposure as much as possible, especially during peak hours of 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Avoid heavy physical exertion outdoors during this time. Keep yourself hydrated. Drink at least 3 to 3.5 L of fluids. Plain water is good, but not sufficient. Add lemon water, buttermilk or chaas, and coconut water to your diet. Avoid aerated drinks, processed drinks, and sugary drinks during this time. Restrict alcohol intake. Patients who are on diuretics should consult their doctor and [music] take the medicines according to the doctor's recommendation and prescribed dose. Excessive painkillers or over-the-counter drug intake during summers [music] can cause excessive vasoconstriction and can precipitate the already compromised kidneys and lead to AKI. Protect yourself from gastrointestinal infections [music] during this time.
Avoid outside food, raw, uncooked food.
This is because GI infections [music] can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, and reduce the total body fluid, which can lead to acute kidney injury. [music] Patients who are already on dialysis should get back to their dialysis unit [music] and readjust their dry weight based on summer's heat, sweating, and all these factors taken into consideration.
>> [music] >> So, the dialysis dose needs to be modified during summers. Hope these tips have helped you. Let us know any other topics you wish for us to discuss. Stay healthy. Stay safe.
