20 Minutes of Nonstop Tin Flipping in Alabama! Highlights From a 40+ Snake Day in the Field
Added:Look.
>> What is that?
>> It's a rat.
>> Where was he?
>> I don't know. He's huge, though.
>> He is. Dude, is that two?
>> It's two. It's two.
>> What on earth?
>> That one's going under. I think they're both going under his head.
>> I got this one.
>> Yeah.
>> What just happened, dude?
>> This one's What is going on?
>> That was a quad flip.
>> Good morning, everybody from central Alabama. It's going to be really hot today. It's miday and we have some really early summerlike weather moving in way too early in the season, but it is what it is. So, we're going to try to work with it. We're going to get out today and access a few properties that we can only access after turkey season ends. Flip some tin and hopefully we'll see some snakes.
>> Oh, copper coming out striking.
>> Got all the way up.
>> What's up, dude?
Just the one dude, I guess. All right, we'll leave him alone.
>> Just a double down. And then you got the poison ivy is going buck wild.
>> I guess it's better than them being out in the spring.
>> Yep.
This one.
>> I went the wrong way with it.
There he is.
>> That's why it looks good.
>> What up?
Is this just one?
>> I think there might even be one under it.
>> Are we going to bring it towards us?
>> I think so.
>> Yep.
There is one under it.
Oh, king.
Heck yeah.
All right. Pretty quick king snake this morning. You had to get out here early to beat the heat, but it seems like it's working so far.
Come to papa. Got the whole There we go.
All right. Very nice.
First king of the day.
Scrabid female. All right. Hopefully this will be a trend today. a nice healthy gravid looking female king snake at our first stop along with a copper head. Only snakes of the day so far, but like I said, only our first stop. So hopefully there is plenty more to come.
It's still fairly early, so it's not super hot just yet, but it will be very soon. So we're going to try to keep a good pace.
Oh, nice copper.
>> He's a nice gray shade. There's a ringneck on top. I didn't see Oh, there's another copper at that end.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> See if we can get them get them together. This one is really cool looking. Like >> Yeah, that's a really neat looking copper head. I wish we had better lighting.
>> Two of them.
>> All right. Well, the copper heads have gone to opposite ends again, but you can kind of see the ring neck. That was a nice triple flip. Two copper heads and a ringneck. This guy's got a really cool grayish color to him and a classic coppery head.
If you've been here, >> I have flipped this one, but it wasn't.
I don't think it was last time.
>> I thought that was a for a second.
>> Big broad.
>> There's the tail of something.
>> Ew. It's a It's a pigtail. Like a little feral pigtail >> under here with a copper head. Did you drag that feral pigtail under there, dude? Number five. Yeah, >> he is zipping and zooming. Feral pigtail that a rodent drug under here, I guess.
Oo, hello there.
First eraser of the day.
>> Shiny.
>> He's very uh awkward in hand.
Very pretty though, dude.
All right, we'll put you back. Ah, no way, dude. I can't believe you would do that to me. Goodness gracious.
Hey, another one.
>> You were right.
You were so girthy.
You've been eating all the king snakes.
Consider yourself vouched.
Here you go.
>> Will come in handy in 30 years when you can't find racers anymore.
>> Something just ran. Oh.
>> Oh, a pretty rat snake. Get him.
>> All right, that was a cool flip. We got big rat copper head that I didn't get any video of. And our first rattlesnake of the day. Nice big cane break. That was a very nice triple flip. Big ratnake with a bololis under there with the timber and the copper head. I'm gonna let this guy go before he gets unhappy with us, though. Best of luck digesting your meal under there. We'll put your rattlesnake friend back in a moment.
This one has was all snaked up last time.
There's a copper down there. Sure.
>> What up, dude?
>> I'll grab a new seat, too. Man, we're going to hit double digit copper heads quickly today.
One of these maze.
>> Oh, copper. Copper on my end this time.
>> Eraser on your end.
>> We got two coppers and a racer.
I know you love these guys.
>> Oh, thank you. You're too kind.
Do you want to try to move the copper?
One of the coppers. All right, there we go. There we go. Two copper heads and a racer.
A picture of that. Snaky morning. That's our second triple flip of the day already.
That's still early.
Oh, >> nice.
>> That's a big rat.
>> Pancake.
>> All right, another rat snake. This one's just coiled perfectly under this stack.
Probably no need to even mess with him.
We'll just cover him back up. That's a big one, though.
>> Oh, copper.
>> Nice copper in the dark.
>> Copper number 30 >> way down there.
>> What's up, brother? Go see Noah.
>> Hello.
Hey buddy.
This one's got that juice to it today.
>> No. Was that a critter?
>> There's going to be a cane in this one.
>> There's another rat snake. You got him.
>> There's a cotton.
>> What?
>> Hello, cotton friend. That caught in the double. Give me about a scoop, man.
>> I'm going to try to.
>> That's all good.
>> All right, >> I'm good. I was just going to get a picture of the Bose, but it's okay.
>> I did, too. Well, we're still finding snakes.
What are you doing, brother?
>> Snakes under everything.
>> Literally.
>> Look.
>> What is that?
>> It's a rat.
>> Where was he?
>> I don't know. He's huge, though.
>> He is, dude. Is that two?
>> Two. It's two.
>> What on earth? That one's going under I think they're both going under.
>> I got this one.
>> Yeah.
>> What just happened, dude?
>> What? What is going on?
>> That was a quad flip.
>> Three rats in a cotton and two of the rats were just like basking next to the stack.
>> This one's beautiful.
>> Yeah, they're all nice.
>> Look at that guy.
>> That is a really cool looking snake.
>> Yeah.
>> Get you a third one.
>> Yeah.
That was ridiculous. There's snakes everywhere.
Snakes coming out of the woodwork.
All right. Well, that was a ridiculous flip. We flipped the one rat snake and a cotton mouth hanging out under the tent.
And then as we started to walk away, these other two rat snakes were just coiled in the bushes and started moving around and we noticed them and were able to catch them. That was crazy.
All right, dudes.
Here's your stack.
That one's trying to go. There we go.
That is such a beastly rat.
>> I love an old junk pile in the woods.
>> As do I.
>> Hey, we're having a ratnake party today.
That's got to be like number six or seven. We're losing count so fast and it's still really early. A lot of time to just keep stacking numbers. But it is going to get hot on us eventually. We're just not there yet.
>> Every second not actively moving is unbelievable.
>> Is this just one?
>> Okay, cuz this end's going to be fire anty as Oh, there we go.
>> In shed, but it's a king. I like it.
>> Looks like a nice one, too.
I'm ready to receive.
Hello.
Very nice. All right, we're wrapping up at our first area of the day. Really, really snaky start. This is our second king snake of the day. Not the king snakiest morning, but not too surprising with how hot it is.
Looks like >> it looks better than it did last time.
>> There's a big ass broadhead.
This is impressive how long this board has lasted, >> right?
>> It's like still in good condition.
>> Yeah, it's cuz it hasn't weathered.
>> All right. Big gravid broadhead skink under this board.
She is looking healthy. You can see she's nice and roon full eggs. She's probably going to lay them under there, pull a couple ticks off of her, and put her back. Yeah, it does.
>> I hate this board.
>> Me, too.
It's the only flip we'll get out of it.
>> It's It's getting there.
>> Pretty to cut.
>> Oh, nice. What the >> We got a nice nice double. Ah, he bit me. Nice double flip under this board Mark and I set up last year around a year ago today. All right, guys. We are fighting the heat of the day right now.
We just grabbed lunch and just found a nice uh yellowbellied slider in this ditch. He's got a maybe a little bit of Come here. Looks like he might have a little bit of red ear influence, but I think that's going to be mostly a pure yellow belly.
Nice to get our hands on something while it's hot, though. We'll leave him to it.
Here in the next hour or so, we'll be able to flip a little bit more, but in the meantime, we're just going to set up a little bit more flip and wait for it to cool off. Maybe swamp.
This one's giving me a good vibe right now.
>> Oh, >> sure enough.
>> Sure enough.
>> Why does he look like that? He's just got some dirt on him. Maybe >> he's got leprosy.
>> First snake of the afternoon. Copper head.
All right, we got a very warm and bothered copper head here who's coming to the toe side of the tin.
Hey, eraser.
>> This I mean this is good, you know.
>> Yeah, we're finding snakes. Come on, dude.
How are you this warm, my guy? Look at him. Somebody got into him.
I don't want you to get into me. Can we just be friends? Please. Please.
>> Yeah, you ain't having it.
>> I know. Oh, I I can see that.
>> Get him. Get him.
I can see that somebody has recently been abusing you. However, I am not that kind of person. I just want to look at you. Take a quick voucher image for my records. If you would be so kind as to stop biting me for even one second.
First racer of the afternoon. Notably not a fan of us.
The ever familiar grass of monk.
>> Oh.
>> Oh, nice.
>> Oh, >> two of them. That one's pretty. Why does this stack smell the way it does? All right, first uh double of the afternoon.
Two hot, grumpy copper heads. Check the bottom porch.
Oh, look at that little guy. What on earth? The tiniest of shrews.
There's a ringneck.
It's not a king, but it's a snake.
It's been decent amounts of these little ringnecks under 10 today. I haven't shown too many of them, but we've seen a lot more than we have recently. I remember this.
>> Oh, look at that.
>> Oh, nice.
>> He's so well camouflaged.
>> He's got that just crawled under here look.
>> He's got that I'm basking while dead look.
>> Is he dead? Are you dead, sir?
>> No, he's just actively eating rodents.
He just did a big nest right under there. Oh, he's beautiful, too.
>> He's very similar to that other really nice one we built.
All right, the flip is back on.
All right, big rat snake number. I don't know how many for the day. Full of food yet again.
Tis the season for nest rating.
Listen to how much noise it's making.
actually does not feel.
>> Oh, that's attached. Somebody Oh, another one.
>> I was about to say somebody's been sitting there and he's still sitting there.
All right, there's another rat. Next set over. Looks like he was sitting there when it was cooler this morning and kind of moved back into the shade over there where it's a little cooler. Let's grab him and get a look.
Hello. Hey, he is in shed and also big.
Do you have rodents in you? He's different color. He's got that gold look. Come on.
>> God, the sun feels nice.
>> I can't believe we're flipping snakes, which is weird cuz I feel like this the stuff in the woods this morning was fine.
>> Yeah.
Damn.
>> Don't understand. Oh, there's a spade foot there. Oh. Sure enough. That's so weird, dude.
>> You got some water.
>> I don't understand why he doesn't just go further underground when it's this hot.
All right, these guys are really cool.
So, we're going to get a look at them real quick.
Hey, buddy.
Oh, look at how deep his hole goes. It goes like way underground.
>> God, I love this thing.
>> That is so cool.
All right, dude. You want to back down your hole?
There you go.
There he goes.
You can still see him backing up in there.
Oh, there's a cotton tail, I think, in this next layer. Oh, is that a different one? Yeah, it is. There's two.
>> What the heck? What are you guys doing up here?
What was that, my guy? I wonder if there's another one down there at the bottom. This is one of the grumpiest cotton I've ever seen.
>> Dude, relax. We'll cover you back up.
God damn it. That's a king. Yep. And it's from today or yesterday.
Sure is a king, man.
>> Look at that head, too.
That stings.
Oh my god. And it's nice. Holy. It's nice. Wa!
Oh my goodness, dude. What was it doing?
>> It was in the grass.
>> I can see where it's been sitting here.
>> We can't let that get away.
>> No. Oh my goodness.
>> Do this.
>> I think we can probably just >> You get it and I'll keep it from going this way.
>> Yeah. Hey, buddy.
>> It's nice.
>> It is so nice.
Rattlesnake in the grass. Keep an eye out for another one, too.
>> Yeah, that's the nicest one I've seen out here by far.
>> Hey, beautiful.
We going to Oh, we are not chill. He's going to go under the tent, I think.
>> Let him go under there.
>> We'll flip him.
>> It's like a South Alabama cane.
>> Is he actually going? Yeah, he went under there.
>> Hoping on.
>> Yeah.
>> Think he's in a layer, >> man.
>> That'll do it.
>> That will do it here. I got this. Can you do this thing?
God, dude.
What an awesome animal.
Yeah, that's a beast.
>> I love this thing.
As you should be my favorite thing every time I come out here.
>> Oh.
>> Oh, nice. He's out of shed too for sure, right?
>> There's a copper down there as well.
>> Yeah, let me get him out of these fires though.
>> Yeah, >> he is beautiful, dude.
>> We keep finding this same ratnake. We found this ratnake five times today.
>> Let me get a little double to hold him down there.
>> There we go.
>> A little bit closer.
>> Big grey rat. Big copper.
>> Thank you, good sir.
>> It's a chill brother of a grey rat.
>> Oh, there's a king.
>> Are you kidding me? off.
>> They really are tuckering down for the night, aren't they?
>> It's getting to be that time.
Is this a single?
>> Oh.
>> Hey, there we go.
>> Last piece again.
>> Last piece of the day.
>> All right. Last piece of tin for the day. Had a king under it. Just like last time we came out to this property. We flipped all day and got a king under the last set.
>> Looks like he's got a meal, too. Or grabbed one. That's a grabbed snake.
>> Yeah, >> I think. Heck yeah.
>> The whole back after the tail front.
>> Yeah, I would say she's grabbed.
>> All right.
It's what you like to see in your tin stacks. All right, we good to let her go.
All right, put the gravid lady back in her tent stack, which is really just a big single with a smaller sheet underneath it. Not even really a proper stack, but sometimes that extra layer is all you need.
Oh, >> all right. Second cotton mouth of the night. I didn't get much video of the first one because there was a car coming.
It was about the same size, same vibe.
All right, it's getting dark on us. We just cruised yet another snake. This is a little copper head. Beautiful little guy. Last year's baby. Hasn't grown too much. Put my foot next to him for a little scale. Try not to get bit.
Luckily, these guys at this size are not too much of a threat when you've got proper footwear on. At least we'll just escort him across the road. Nice to see a pretty clean little copper head.
Really hoping to see a mud snake tonight. But we saw a do today, so we're optimistic they'll be out.
All right, just barely got this guy out of the road in time. A car came along and made him thoroughly unhappy and he's been trying to bite me. But second copperhead of the night, another little guy. All right, it's possible this is the same snake. But there is yet another baby copper head. That might be our first one of the night, but I'm guessing it's a new one. Just seems like these guys are doing incredibly well out here.
And for some reason, all the babies are moving right now. These are last year's babies, too, not this year's babies.
born in 2025.
All right, it is very staky out here.
Here we have a very active gastra blaster that's jumping his way across the road.
Hey, we finally got something that's not a copper head. Just a weird mediumsized grey rat sitting in the road. First non-copperhead since it got dark. Oh no, we had the one ariththrogaster. So, second non-copper head of the night. All right, I'm almost home. It's after midnight. And for some reason, I just cruised a queen snake. That is a very strange snake to see on the road at any time, much less at this hour in this location. I'm nowhere near a creek that I know of. And there's just a queen snake hanging out. Really strange. I'll get him out of the road. But probably the last snake of the day. It's been a good one.
Hey.
