This dialogue often mistakes divergent socio-economic models for inherent moral superiority, reducing complex historical trajectories to a performative clash of cultural egos. It serves as a poignant reminder that international disdain is frequently just a mirror for our own internal insecurities.

Do Europeans Look Down on Americans!? Americans React | Loners #444Added:
All right, welcome back everyone. Thank you all for tuning in to another episode here of Loners. Um, please subscribe here and over down below, jump to our vlog channel and subscribe there. I think in in the next month we have some fun ideas for the vlog channel that >> they're all up here.
>> They are. So, we just need a plan for them.
>> We a little bit we need to execute them, but we think that you'll like them. So, just go subscribe there. All right. So today we're going to do a video called Do Europeans look down on Americans? And I'm sure they have for a long time.
>> Case closed.
>> Yeah. Let's see.
>> This reminds me of this um discourse going on online right now cuz the World Cup's coming up.
>> Yeah.
>> So there's a bunch of back and forth about >> Oh, like what you were telling me about like it's not walkable to get there.
>> Yeah. So one of the locations is going to be I want to I think it's in New Jersey. wherever the Metife Stadium is, East Coast. And so they a lot of Europeans were saying that, "Oh, we're just going to walk."
And Americans were like, "No, you don't.
You can't." They're like, "Okay, just cuz you're lazy [ __ ] doesn't mean [laughter] words like you." Um, and so they were trying to explain to them like >> there's a highway there, >> the lay of the land a little bit.
>> And then I don't know, everything's amplified online, but it was pretty entertaining to watch from the sidelines.
Let's see.
>> Anyway, that's the title made me think of that.
>> A couple of weeks ago, I went on the internet and watched a video that was, to be frank, disgusting, just pure filth.
>> And having watched it to the end and re-watched it a couple of times to check that my initial disgust was justified, I decided to watch a different video. And this was by YouTuber Nathaniel Drew, and it was titled, "Why did the British look down on Americans?" And that got me thinking because I've seen a few comments through my videos as well. Uh there's a perception that some Americans have that some British people or or indeed Europeans more generally are a bit snobbish um and have an an unearned superiority complex. So I want to explore that. Do you think Europeans sometimes look down on Americans?
Um sometimes. Yeah, I would say so.
>> Sorry, we didn't say it before, but this is from a channel called British Guy Reacts.
>> Yeah, I'll put the original in the description.
>> Yeah. Watching that.
Um, they're kind of out there, a little bit eccentric, a lot of extroverts, big personalities. Um, maybe British people are just a little bit more mellow.
>> Yeah.
>> Um, >> I mean, have have you noticed a big difference between the I know Northern Ireland is obviously slightly different to other parts of the UK, but have you noticed a big difference between the culture from Texas and Northern Ireland?
>> Oh, yeah. Huge. Very different. Yeah.
>> What What kind What kind of most noticeable?
>> I mean, that's the things that I noticed. I mean, they're just more out there, especially in like business and they tend to take more risks.
um than they would in the UK. Um just bigger personality.
>> Sorry, his nodding got me. He's like, >> "Yeah, >> where is he? This guy sounds like >> said Northern Ireland."
>> Okay. Okay, that's what I thought. His accent is so specific.
>> It is very It goes from like American and then it has little words that sound >> It sounds like an American faking an accent [laughter] >> to me. I think I would say.
>> Yeah. It's interesting that they take more risk and certainly if they don't have as much of a social social safety net as we do.
>> I think it's just a cultural thing like it's acceptable to take a risk over there like if you feel in business that's just seen as like a badge of honor whereas over here not as much you know it's like you failed >> as Europeans.
>> True. I didn't know that >> the what >> that if you start a business over there and it fails.
>> You probably feel more >> like you're shamed more there.
>> You probably feel it more like a failure here. I think it's just like well here the thing is like it depends where you are and who you're surrounded with but they can judge you just the same and look at you as a failure as well. It all comes down to yourself I think and how you're able to take the criticism of trying something.
>> I think it it's the criticism only comes if it significantly impacts your life in a negative way. But if like you just move on to something else I don't know if the judgment's there. I do feel like people take a fair amount of risk here though.
>> They do. Americans think Europeans look down on them.
>> Do you think that's true? Do you think Europeans look down on Americans?
>> Um, I think that uh Europeans can look down on Americans because they're known to be uh not to be like uh like >> you got to be careful what you say.
[laughter] >> You're going like dumber than the Europeans. And >> but you think that because what's interesting is that the Americans are richer than us. So if if we're smarter than them, why are they richer than us?
>> Okay. as a country. As a country, yeah, the our country appears to be richer than every other country in the world.
But does that wealth translate down to the majority of people here? No, it doesn't.
>> I still think >> there's still a lot of poor people in the US. That's >> I think he's saying because Americans technically generally get paid more than >> for sure >> than over there. But that also is because the cost of living is more and there's certain factors. We don't have universal healthcare like it always weighs out. I feel like this is information everyone. Okay.
>> Yeah. We also our quality of life index is lower than most European countries and most other countries re realistically. Um that's something to take into consideration too. And I also think that when he asked when when this guy said that they tend to be dumber money does not equate to being intelligent or smart. You can get a you can get a job and work like a monkey or a robot and [ __ ] get paid a lot, but it doesn't mean that you're actually knowledgeable about things. You just know that specific one thing.
>> Yeah. I remember something happened either yesterday or the day before that and you're like, "Wow, rich people aren't that smart." Like, not all of them, but he was just saying like >> it doesn't equate to maturity or knowledge. That's what I was saying that being wealthy doesn't equate to maturity.
>> There was there was a reason that you said it. There was like something made you think of it. You're like, "Wow, I would have I would have expected."
>> People were arguing. It was that couple arguing. We heard them arguing and I was just like I was like, "Wow." Yeah. You know, like you start to realize as you're older, no matter how >> the guy was saying something so stupid, okay? And I was just like, "Dude, how like older are you? You're you're so grown, like in his 40s, maybe." [snorts] And I'm like, "Damn." And then Brian's like, "It really doesn't matter how old and wealthy you are. Some people immature."
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. I guess that was completely off topic, but anyway, that's a good question. Uh, I don't really know how to answer it, but I like feel like >> But you do think there's some snobbery towards Americans, Europeans.
>> Uh, I really think and there's there's like a clash between Americans and Europeans. So, >> would you agree with that?
>> Uh, yeah. Um, yeah, I would. Uh, I think, uh, how much more do I want to say?
>> We're we Europeans are a little like high on ourselves. Um because you know we have like um uh I don't know what it's called in English but um you know when the community like gives and takes uh like it's working well and I think that's uh >> yeah a difference we have uh in Europe uh and America >> a lot of Americans watch the channel watch our channel um and a lot of them say that they think British people >> feel sorry for you >> a lot of them say that they think British people look down on Americans.
Do you think that's true?
>> Or look down on them because they look down on the rest of the world. Yeah.
>> Yeah. Like >> maybe they treated the rest of the world better. Particularly that orange bloke that's in charge at the moment treated us a bit better. The things he's been saying about the UK in the last couple of months.
>> I could just sack them off. We don't need them.
>> Yeah. You know, we're >> the rest of the world can bring America down if we want to. I'm talking monetary. Nothing like nasty.
>> Yeah. Yeah.
>> Sick and tired of they need to be taken down a peg or two. might be winning.
>> Okay, you're talking about the government and yes, we agree with you. I This just falls back in line and it's so ironic cuz it's like, oh, you guys are just a bunch of dumb idiots and then you have people on the other side of the world saying like you guys let this Donald Trump, but then also can't differentiate between the people and the government and being like, okay, that country is gigantic and Yeah. What are you know what I'm saying? Yeah.
>> Like >> be like hate our government. We hate our government. Well, that's what he's talking about. He's not talking about the people specifically.
>> I know. But I'm saying a lot of people associate Trump being in office with like we just >> came to get be our president when that's could not be farther from the truth.
>> Yeah.
>> Um so yes, chew out our government, but I think he's asking Europeans like civilians there about American civilians. And I think that that's like the there I think a lot of the um division is manufactured.
>> Yeah.
>> In my [clears throat] head, at least in my eyes from what I've seen >> to do [snorts] it. Do you think British people look down on Americans?
>> I don't I don't [laughter] know. I think it's a 50/50 thing. I think it's more of the bias that people have because of the narrative that comes out of America in regard to belief systems and >> that type of thing. I don't think it's necessarily that we look down on it. I think it's a I feel like you well I don't know maybe it's just because that's the indust like the people that we are but we don't we're very accepting of everyone. I think as a >> and you don't think Americans are >> I think it's 50 the the narrative that comes out of America is that they're not but I know I know people I work with people in America and I know that they are very accepting. It's just naturally the voices that you hear are the ones that go viral and they're the ones that have the opposite of views to us and that's why people are responding. So I don't necessarily think that we look down as a whole. I think it's more of a the narrative that comes out of it is very one-sided and that's what we interact with and that's what we get fed. We've been overseas a few times while Trump has been in office, whether it was his first or second term, and we get to see how that part of the world is viewing our media and like our government. And yeah, I would I'd feel 10 times stronger about us in a negative light than I already do if I was viewing that from overseas.
>> Yeah. But I guess it just goes back to like >> the people versus the government more and more.
>> And you think we do look down on that?
>> Uh yeah, I'd say so. I mean, I know I personally have my views on America.
[laughter] >> But is it America or is it?
>> Yeah. Yeah. It's not American people.
It's just like America as a whole.
>> Culture as a whole or not so much the culture. It's more as my sister rightly stated, it's more just what the narrative that comes out of America, see a lot of stuff on the news and like you haven't seen in England for a long time where someone stormed the capital and stuff. Do you know what I mean?
Especially when you look at gun culture and how set they are in their laws and whatnot where you look at and again >> English people aren't much better, don't get me wrong, but you look and you say they are so set in their ways. anyone tries to tell them different with any sort of view and you just get shunned.
Do we look down on Americans?
No. I I wouldn't say I do. I feel like a lot they look down on us. I feel like it's the other way around. Yeah. Like cuz we obviously we do Tik Tok and then when when our TikTok started like we do music and it and people started seeing it and that they they all the Americans were commenting is this what they think's cool over in the UK and they were they were taking a mick of it and I was just like bro like >> bottle of water. [laughter] >> Yeah. You know what I mean? We listen to a lot of American culture over here so how can we say we mock it? Like we listen to a lot of American rappers. I watch a lot of American TV. I don't I don't think no Americans are watching no English. What even is English TV?
>> Some is popular though. So like um like Oh Bridgetton and stuff is popular. All the [laughter] >> all like the really posh period.
>> Family Guy though. That's America.
>> Skins. Inbetweeners. I remember watching things when we were younger.
>> Inbetweeners is is so funny. I love that. I I do think a lot of uh the there's I think specifically British uh culture is received well here. But we do make fun of the accent because it's fun.
>> How can you not? And then Americans will uh like about um British people, they'll be like um y'all don't have seasoning in your food.
>> Yeah. Yeah. That's one that we've heard a lot.
>> It's I think it's harmless and funny.
Anyway, >> what about you? Do you think British people look down on um Americans at all?
>> Well, I don't know. I've got American family. So, I love America. So, you don't? Yeah, I love Americans. I think What about the general public?
>> But I think the general public I think >> you're going to go >> I think it's because of what I was saying like like English people are so like most people are quite miserable.
Most Americans are very happy, very like jolly and I feel like it's two different like sides. It's like >> you know I feel like the Britain's more judgy as well.
>> I feel like we are very judgy. I feel like America's not that judgy. Sorry, I meant English, not British. I know I will get hung for saying that.
>> Okay, if we are smarter then why are they richer? They asked that to these two dudes who don't even speak English as their first language. That's why it was hard for them to try to explain that. Sorry, a comment says that if we are smarter then why are they richer?
They this is a question they can't answer.
>> Yeah, but this person's asking like this is the question they can't answer. Like you don't have a point there. It's even if they can't answer it, it doesn't mean that the question was a good question anyway.
>> Yeah, >> I thought that was a stupid question.
>> Yeah, I don't know. It is a It is a dumb question because it's very generalized.
It's not like like there's wealthy people in the UK or in Europe. There's wealthy people everywhere.
>> That's an American thing to say, by the way.
>> Yeah, I don't know. In my opinion, the wealth here in the US does not get distributed um well at all. and one the 1% really controls everything and that's the biggest issue. So it looks like the image of wealth but then the people don't really feel it. The majority of people don't feel like we're the wealthiest country in the world.
>> Yeah. Cuz in media it's all glitz and glam and Hollywood and blah blah blah blah. And it's like people are waking up which I'm happy about.
they are waking up to the disparity and also the amount of homeless people here like they're seeing beyond the veil here.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh so I that I am grateful for. Okay.
But I also think we need to understand where to project our judgment.
>> Yeah. I think um >> but again it's like the news you're only going to see um the crazy stuff like people storming the capital which is [ __ ] insane and is a huge talking point >> when debates or not debates but well kind of like u electoral debates and stuff >> start happening.
>> Uh there's just a lot of clash here. It's a it's very very divided and I feel like that's obvious too.
>> Yeah.
>> Very very [ __ ] divided here. There's a lot of Americans in the comments getting so [ __ ] buttth hurt.
>> Yeah.
>> It's actually kind of funny. It's like, okay, sorry. This is how I feel when you're sitting there like, "You don't even know us and blah blah blah." It's like you're giving Europeans uh more ammo to not like you.
>> Yeah.
>> Okay. You're not being welcoming. You're not being someone that's like like meet people where they're at, I guess.
Anyway, like be a be a little understanding. Be a little like, okay, well, this is why they think this. No [ __ ] [ __ ] I thinking the same thing.
the girl and the brother seemed like the that that sister, she seemed to be pretty um >> she [snorts] had her head on, right?
>> Like understanding of of the situation >> Americans.
>> Americans. So yeah.
>> Anyway, okay, I've rambled enough. I feel like this talking point has been beat to death by us in many videos. So anyway, >> all right. Just leave your opinions in the comments and uh please like, comment, subscribe, jump over to the vlog channel. Peace.
>> Bye.
