BEAST MODE FRAGRANCES and DESIGNER BELT BUCKLES equal INSECURITY SIGNALING | Story TimeAdded:
Why do beast mode fragrances and designer belt buckles equal insecurity signaling? Let's talk about it.
All right. Hey guys, welcome to the video. If you're new here, my name is Curtis and today we're going to be talking about [music] beast mode fragrances and designer belt buckles and how they just signal uh insecurity uh in my opinion. And I want to talk about why I'm even making a video on this topic. Um, basically I got inspiration [music] from my trip uh going abroad back to the states and while I was sitting in Haneda airport.
So let me kind of talk through this story a little bit. So yeah, I was sitting in Haneda airport in Japan waiting for my flight to go back to the States to visit. Um, and while I was sitting there, you know, I was [music] listening to my headphones, some rock music, so it was quite loud. And first, uh, I started to smell a very strong [music] scent. Smelled very bro if if you will. Um, which is fine, you know, everybody likes what they like. Um, but [snorts] then I heard this loud laughter, loud talking, like just like almost yelling. [music] Um, so I like And I have my music on, right? And so I'm like, "What the," you know, and so I turn my music off and I turn around [music] like this and there's this guy.
He's probably my age or a little older.
He might be around his 50s or so.
[music] And he's like on the phone laughing, yelling like And so at the time I wasn't 100% sure if that smell was coming from him, right?
because there were a lot of other people in the airport. I wasn't 100% certain.
[music] But when I look back, you know, he's wearing kind of, you know, these jeans, shirt tucked in, this huge designer belt buckle like Yeah. And he's [music] being loud. So anyways, I got up to go to the bathroom.
He had gone and sat back down still talking on the phone and yelling. Uh, I So, I'm walking by him and I'm passing by because I'm going to go to the restroom. I walk by and right when I walk by, it's him. I confirmed it is him smelling. He must have taken a bath, oversprayed, or his fragrance is just [music] too intense, too strong. And so, I'm like, "Holy smokes, man." Like, this guy is screaming [music] for attention, right? I mean, he is screaming for attention. Uh, just extremely obnoxious.
So that is what kind of inspired this video. U so I just kind of wanted to talk a little bit about um you know how beast mode fragrances and designer belt buckles kind of go hand in hand um and how they both kind of signal uh like both prime examples of like insecurity signaling essentially. Um but you know I think both of those are used as like a so-called like um like high visibility status right it's like you you know beast mode fragrances it's like extremely extreme projection extreme longevity it's like scent trailils that last forever you know it's [music] like those things are very hard it's very hard to ignore that Right. Um, and then like those big designer belt buckles when you're passing by somebody, it's like it's like almost the first thing that you notice, [music] right? It's it's very easy to notice, right? Um, and you know, I guess the reason why people [music] do that is the appeal about being noticed, right? [music] They want to be noticed. I want people, you know, to like, look at me, everybody, look at me, right? Um, I think that's probably one reason. [music] Um, and it's like you're communicating a certain image almost of [music] like, you know, maybe it's for like wealth or status, like you you want people to think, oh, this guy has money or, you know, whatever it may [music] be. You're trying to communicate a certain image to everybody else. Um, you know, and may maybe it's maybe it's a form of self-expression. [music] Maybe you do like being the loudest person in the room. Maybe that's your personality.
Um whether that's a good thing or not, I mean I think that's extremely [music] subjective. Um, but you know, I think both of those things, you know, uh, beast mode fragrances and designer belt buckles just scream notice me everybody, look at me. Like I don't know. And given given also the fact that I mean this guy was my age or older, you know, I don't know. I I don't know. Um, anyways, [music] like I I I think it's like it's it's like from my standpoint it's it's [music] kind of looks like you're trying too hard, dude. Like why are you trying so hard? [music] You know, what's the you're like demanding attention, right? It's like I I don't know. I just don't understand. And maybe it's not for me to understand, right? Everybody's different and I do appreciate uniqueness in everybody. Um but that the the kind of overly kind of loud character, his personality in conjunction with the just the he [music] bathed in the fragrance.
Um but it was so strong like uh and with that belt buckle like it was just like man uh just the combination of everything was overwhelming and pretty [snorts] cringe to to watch to be honest. You know, I [music] think like the effect that those things have on others. I mean, the belt buckle, you can easily ignore it, right? All you just don't have to look at it, right? You can easily ignore it. Um, now the fragrance on the other hand, there's no escaping that, especially in like a closed space like that. Like, I was sitting literally 50 ft away, 50 ft away, and I was able to smell his fragrance. It was crazy.
[music] Maybe the air conditioner was pushing it over, whatever. But it's like, dude, when you're in like an office-based closed area riding on a train or whatever, there's no way anybody can escape that. So, it's like you're you're really um like intruding on people's space, right?
So, I mean there it's just very obnoxious. It's obnoxious kind of behavior [music] in an obnoxious type of fashion in my opinion because both of those are fashion, right? Whether they're good fashion or bad fashion, that's subjective. It's up to you. But for me, in my opinion, they are both obnoxious forms of fashion, [music] you know. And again, it's I kind of touched on this a little bit, but you're you're really trying to throw out a status signal to somebody. You're [music] again, you're trying to maybe you're trying to show them that you're wealthy, that you have money. Look, I have a Gucci belt buckle, [music] right? I have all this money. or you know you're wearing this all this fragrance it just kind of signals you know you're trying to display your wealth whereas I think a lot of times you know many people including myself view it as [music] being insecure or like very performative. It's almost like you're like when you're when you're wearing those things it's almost like you're you're a clown in a circus performing for everyone. That's how it kind of comes off. I don't know. I kind of feel like it it's a big sense of insecurity. It's like you're trying to compensate for something else that's missing in your life, you know, and for whatever reason, I think, you know, [music] I don't think that beast mode fragrances and designer belt buckles are the answer to your problem, you know.
And granted, you know, I need to also look at this on the other side. Some people might just actually like those things. Um, but there's always a time and a place for those things. Like, okay, if you're going to a club at night, beast mode fragrance, yeah, that would work fine.
Uh, that would work fine. Designer belt buckle on the other hand, you shouldn't [music] ever wear that. Those, but again, I'm just throwing my opinion in there. I just think they're the tackiest looking things [music] ever. Um, I I would not be caught dead in one of those. Uh, so but if you like those, do you, man, and rock it with pride. But like I don't know, it just really signals someone being insecure in my opinion. Um, [music] and look, you know, do I have beast mode fragrances in my collection? Strong fragrances. Yeah, sure. But when I wear those, I'm adjusting [music] where I'm spraying and how many sprays I'm doing. So like for example, let me think Beach Hut Man by Wash for example. That is one of the strongest fragrances in my collection.
Not only does it last a very long time, but it pushes heavy. That is a room filling fragrance. Now, when I wear that, I'll do [music] one spray under my shirt, so it's not on open exposed skin where the air is hitting it and it's really [music] kind of pushing out a seage.
But I'm able to kind of catch ws of it and I'm keeping it fairly close, right?
It's not necessarily filling up the room. So yeah, I will wear fragrances like that, but I'll adjust. Like, you know, for me, there's just a true beauty in elegance and sophistication [music] and subtlety.
And I think for those of you guys that have been following my channel for any amount of time, you know that I really push um more elegant uh soft um sophisticated fragrances. Um it's just my vibe. It's just kind of what works for me, my personality.
Um, and yeah, I I just enjoy the beauty and that soft elegance. And you know, also I live here in Japan. That style fits really well here. But what I found too is that, you know, when I go back to America, I still don't like those beast mode fragrances. And obviously I don't like the designer [music] belt buckles, but it's, you know, I I just prefer that kind of soft elegance. Like I'm not offending anybody, right? I'm that's just [music] adding to my overall aura.
It's like the aura of being felt rather than seen, right? You know, [music] something's there and something's like, "Oh, okay." Like there's something about this guy or this girl. I can't figure it exactly what it is, but it just kind of adds to the aura, right? There's nothing that's popping you in the face like a beast mode fragrance or designer bellbuckle, right? It's just like very subtle and there's a real beauty in that. And [music] I I don't know. I I kind of wish more people would understand that and kind of follow that trend, but at the same time, you know, it's [music] like do you and do what makes you happy. Don't let what I'm saying about designer but belt buckles and beast mode [music] fragrances change your mind. I mean, do what you like to do. I'm just telling you like how I feel about them. Um, you know, there's a time and a [music] place for everything, but you know, I I think uh, you know, I think for some people, you know, when they wear those, it just kind of they're they're searching for something else that's missing in their life, like, you [music] know, and it just I don't know, it just comes off very very obnoxious and insecure in my opinion. Um, but yeah, rant over. All right, guys. So, that's all I have for you for today. Don't forget to like and subscribe if you enjoyed today's content.
