[00:00:00]Can an RC car go faster when fitted with F1 car wings [music] to create downforce? Well, to find out, I started by timing how long it took for this RC car to go around the corner just as a bare chassis. The average time around the corner was 3.91 seconds. So, next I made some extremely [music] large wings from aluminum. On the next run around the corner, I got the time down to 3.21 seconds. To optimize the wings, I ran some rudimentary wind tunnel tests [music] and I could see that there was some boundary layer separation behind the front wing, which seems to be caused by it's being angled up too aggressively. I changed the front wing to be smaller so that more air would actually hit the rear wing. But, after some testing in an empty car park, it seemed [music] that the smaller front wing meant that there was too much understeer. So, it was back to the larger front wing, but angled slightly less aggressively. And now we could try one final time to see if the car would go faster. It did. We got the time down to 2.29 seconds.
