I'm Getting My last Surgery TodayAdded:
So, I've had surgery, she's had surgery, and she's had surgery.
Amanda has even had surgery. We've all had surgery. You guys are going to think we're so weird for starting a video like this.
And we're back. We are. We're here.
Welcome to another episode of Shay's Surgeries.
>> [laughter] >> We were laughing because it seems like our YouTube videos or long-form videos we're usually talking about my recoveries. Uh-huh. Now, to be fair, they've been spread out over like 3 years, so it just seems like a lot.
Yeah.
>> [laughter] >> But, I am here to talk about another procedure I'm going to be having. I also wanted to talk a little bit about the fact that it's been 3 years today, I think, since I started my transition, my social transition. And I had gotten facial feminization surgery. That was my first procedure. Well, I guess technically my hair was, but I'll just say as far as gender affirming for my presentation, it was FFS, so. She had a hair transplant in 2021. Yeah. But, you weren't really planning on transitioning then. It was kind of like you were out, we were talking about it, but it was more of like, "What can I do to be comfortable as I am now cuz I can't imagine ever transitioning." FFS, facial feminization surgery, obviously, was your like >> social transition.
>> Your dive into the deep end.
>> There's no going back. And that's how I felt. I was like, am I Do I really want to do this? I really wanted to, but you know, pre-surgery nerves is so scary.
Facial feminization surgery was a very difficult start, right? Would you say it was it's been your most difficult procedure Emotionally, yes. I thought bottom surgery would be the hardest, but no, facial feminization surgery, emotionally, was the most the most difficult. And I think it's just because I went into it not knowing that it's a game of patience. Um, just because it it takes it does take a while to see results with that. So, yeah, I think if I had known, you know, what to expect, I probably would have been better, but it was it was hard. And so, for people who maybe don't understand, like, why surgeries? Like, why just not Why not just transition and just be happy and live your life? Like I ask myself that all the time.
>> [laughter] >> No, I think, you know, there's the the trans umbrella is really broad. I'm learning from so many people I've met.
Surgery is important to some people, some it isn't. I'll just speak for myself. And gender affirming care and surgeries have changed my life for the better in every single way. I also want to disclaim that surgery should always be taken serious and should be heavily investigated before Yeah. stepping into it. So, this video today is about this final procedure I'm going to be doing.
Yes, and we'll tell them all about that.
And I also thought it would be helpful to sort of recap where you've been. So, we talked about the hair transplant, we talked about facial feminization surgery a little bit, which yes, was a grueling Yeah. long recovery. And then, you had vocal feminization surgery. Yes. And overall, that's been very helpful, wouldn't you say? Very helpful, not perfect, and that's mostly because of me. I I need to do more training, but some ways I don't care. And if you listen to my old voice, in case people are wondering, like, it's drastically different. It's just >> Yes. There's a lot of training you have to do, so. Anyway, so happy with that.
Yeah, a lot more confidence. You talk to strangers beautifully. That was something that was hard for you before.
Um, so it's been great. And then, um, let's see. So, after vocal feminization surgery, you did bottom surgery, right?
Yeah. And like I said, that one was actually probably one of the the happiest, easiest surgeries I've done.
Yeah. I don't Okay, it's not totally easy, but, you know, it's it's been the one of the most like no-brainer for me, so. And I've expressed that in our previous video.
So, do you want to tell them about your final procedure? And so, for this final surgery, I'm going to be doing uh three surgeries actually in one. So, of course, with this being my last surgery, I had to go out with a bang, right?
>> [laughter] >> Yes, and she is going to Dr. Leif Rogers. So, the three surgeries I'm going to be doing is a breast augmentation. I'm going to be doing uh rib contouring, which I'll explain here in a minute, and I'm going to be doing uh lipo 360, I guess this is called, um, to help with the contouring of my torso.
So, yeah, I'm actually going to be going to see him, Dr. Rogers, in Pasadena, Beverly Hills, and he specializes in these techniques. Uh, specifically, the rib contouring is something that as some of us really scary to a lot of people.
No, they're not removing my ribs.
Um, what they're going to be doing is creating a essentially like a clean fracture, I hope I'm saying that right.
And so, it's not as scary as people make it sound. Um, I've actually had some friends have actually had many friends who've done this procedure um, with incredible results. And the reason I chose to go with him is that he's like one of the pioneers in doing this, especially with um, the amount of ribs they're able to do to give a a real nice, natural look. So, yeah.
I'm I'm really excited about this one.
Um, but I'm also nervous, you know, cuz it is a pretty long procedure with the recovery, but I'm just going to go into it the headspace I did with my last surgery, and I'm just going to stand right up and run out the door, so. Yeah, and Shay hasn't had enough good to say about Dr. Leif Rogers, his bedside manner, and just a really caring and competent surgeon. And so >> Yeah. I am I'm excited to show you the results, which I will be doing. Um, I'll be documenting it probably as another video as a follow-up, but then also in short form as well. We're leaving actually tomorrow morning, which is why we're filming this at night.
>> [laughter] >> Yeah.
>> will be the first procedure that actually Amanda won't be with me. I know.
>> Yeah, so this is a schedule conflict, and I I love, you know, for one of us to be of course with our our kids as well, so. But yeah, so that pretty much covers what I'm going to be doing, and I'm excited just to have that feeling of being done, but also excited about the results, so. Yes, and I'm so excited for you. I think you're going to have amazing results and be really happy with it. It's been amazing watching gender affirming surgeries for Shay and how much she's just been able to honestly just like relax in her own body and just feel like free to go and live her life.
Transitioning later in life and just like really getting to enjoy your time and and feeling at at peace in your body. It's it's amazing. And I do want to say I I know that a lot of these procedures aren't available to a lot of people, and I recognize my privilege in being able to to have this opportunity, and I I just hope that by sharing our story that that not only can we help normalize, you know, procedures like this that really do save lives, um, that hopefully that this access to care becomes more available to more people. Yep, so important, um, for people to have access to that care.
Well, we're grateful for you in our community, and thanks for joining us on another adventure. Yeah.
>> [laughter] >> It's 3 years, it's so crazy.
>> 3 years, that is really wild. And thank you for those who've been there from the beginning, so.
>> Yeah.
We'll see you. Bye. Bye.
