Role Theory in sociology explains that individuals behave differently with different social groups because their status and role expectations change accordingly; for example, a person's behavior toward parents (as a child) differs from their behavior toward friends (as a peer) due to the different status positions they occupy in each relationship.

"Why We Act Differently with Friends vs. Parents 🎭Hinzugefügt:
Can I see that she is friend to someone?
She is a daughter to someone.
She might be a sister to someone. She could be an older sibling or a younger sibling. Okay.
And the person is the same. When I saw her interacting with her parents, the topic was same, let us say, West Bengal election results. [music] It could be anything. So, when I saw her interacting with her parents, the way, the manner of interaction was very different from when I saw her interacting with her friends.
And I thought, what a hypocritical person.
The same issue, and see how differently she is behaving.
But then sociology told me that in both these situation, her status is different.
With respect to parents, her status is that of a child.
But with friends, it is peer group.
And because of that difference in the status, the role expectation is very different.
So, when you interact with your parents, your behavior would be very different from when you are interacting with your friends. So, this is not hypocrisy. This is role theory in sociology.
