Barron’s analysis is a classic high-brow flex, turning Dylan’s simple folk rhymes into a sophisticated lecture on French poetry. It shows how intellectuals love to find deep literary meaning in even the most casual pop songs.

A Tribute to Bob Dylan本站添加:
Hey everybody, it's Bishop Baron. Uh, most of you who follow me know that Bob Dylan means a lot to me. And this Sunday is Bob Dylan's 85th birthday. Five years ago on his 80th birthday, I did um a little song for you called Every Grain of Sam, which is one of his really great songs. Um, but you know, this year too, his 85th birthday coincides with my 40th anniversary as a priest. I was ordained a priest on May 24th on Bob Dylan's birthday. So, a lot to celebrate for me.
Um, you know, I could talk about Bob Dylan, but I thought the best way to pay tribute to what he's meant to me is to sing a song. I'm going to sing now, not one of his kind of classic, most famous ones, but a song I've always loved, and it's from his great album called Blood on the Tracks. It's called You're Going to Make Me Lonesome When You Go. And it's a more light-hearted song, but like all Bob Dylan's songs, even the light ones, there's something always interesting and quirky in them. This one has a reference, for example, to the French symbolist poets Verlin and Rambo.
And um he also rhymes Honolula and Ashtabula, which I've always admired. So I'm going to sing in honor of Bob Dylan.
Uh, you're going to make me lonesome when you go.
I've seen love go by my door. It's never been this close before. It's never been so easy or so slow. Been shooting in the dark too long. When something's not right, it's wrong. You're going to make me lonesome when you go.
Purple clover, queen and lace, crimson hell across your face. You can make me cry if you don't know.
Can't remember what I was thinking of.
You might be spoiling me. Too much love.
You're going to make me lonesome when you go.
Dragon cloud so high above. I've only known callous love. It always hits me from below.
This time around it's more correct. It's right on target. It's so direct. You're going to make me lonesome when you go.
Flowers on the hillside blooming crazy talking back and forth and ride.
Blue river running slow and lazy.
I could stay with you forever. Never realize the time. Situations have ended sad. Relationships have all been bad.
Mine have been like vales and Rambo.
There's no way that I can't compare all the scenes to this affair. You're going to make me lonesome when you go.
going to make me wonder what I'm doing.
Staying far behind without you.
Going to make me wonder what I'm saying.
You're going to make me give myself a good talking to when I look for you in Oh, Honolula, San Francisco, Restula.
You're going to have to leave me now. I know.
But I see you in the sky above in the tall grass and the ones I love. You're going to make me lonesome when you go.
Heat. Heat.
So, happy 85th birthday, Bob Dylan.
