Random Rain @ U-District Street Fair 2026 | Full time vending artist

[00:00:00]Hello, my name is Cynthia, artist and creator of Singles' Flute, and this weekend we're at the U District Street Fair.

[00:00:09]Wow, my hair is a mess. It is 11:10 56.

[00:00:12]We open up at 11:00, so we're about to open up here. We are all set up. I feel like this is one of the very few events that I truly just can't film me setting up because it's just like hectic and chaotic. And events in general are just very hectic and chaotic setting up, so I don't think you guys need to see that.

[00:00:24]But if you are curious, I did vlog this event like 2 years ago.

[00:00:28]Um I didn't get into this event last year, so I didn't get to vlog it, but here we are this year. And we are actually situated in an area almost identical to where we were my very first U District Street Fair, which is on 43rd across from the post office. So super exciting. It has expanded obviously since the first year back after COVID.

[00:00:46]Um and it's very competitive to get in, I will say. This event does have an application fee, so if you're new to application fees, this one has one. It is non-refundable. It's like 40 bucks.

[00:00:56]So yeah, did I lose it last year? Of course. Wow, it is bright. It rained this morning. It's been raining for the past few days, and it's supposed to rain today. Um the weather gods I think might be on our side, and it might clear up enough, but we'll see. It is like really really freaking cold. My fingers are cold. I packed two jackets and a bunch of heat warmers and everything, so hopefully today is a good day though.

[00:01:15]The setup is looking okay. Here are some pictures of it.

[00:01:19]Um I'm not very confident in it, but at this point it is what it is, and I am so exhausted. We are on week four of my 12-week sprint. I think in the last vlog I said 11 weeks. I counted wrong. It's 12 weeks. So we are on week four. After this weekend, next weekend is Fanime, so I've been packing for Fanime. I also got into a consignment over at Pike's Place, so I have to be set up for that when I come back for Fanime. I'm also doing an agility event, which is like a 5-day event when I come back from Fanime, so there's a lot of things happening, and for the next like 15 days it's just going to be go go go go go go. It's currently raining. I don't know if you can hear it, but it's raining. It's currently 12:00. Um it's been pretty slow. There's been a lot of people, but not a lot of shopping. So, everybody has been standing very, very, very far away from my booth to see what I have um and not wanting to come in. So, it's been a little little okay, but with the rain more people are going to come in. The weather was doing so good.

[00:02:20]We're all trying to find refuge. It is absolutely dumping.

[00:02:23]Um the balloon that they tied to my tent is also like just not cooperating. Do you see the balloon?

[00:02:30]>> [laughter] >> It's like it's getting wet and it's falling. Look at the balloon.

[00:02:45]Oh, no.

[00:02:47]It is dumping.

[00:02:50]I don't know if you guys can tell, but it is absolutely it is dumping. It's dumping, dumping rain. I am like soaked just from running out there to like move the balloon, but this is crazy. This dumb balloon.

[00:03:21]But, all I know that happened is these tote bags got decimated.

[00:03:25]And I just made this sign like the other day and now it's it's wet. I got to make a new sign.

[00:03:36]So, I don't know if they'll ever dry, but I hope they do. I mean, it's just canvas, but now it's wet.

[00:03:42]And the rain has lightened up a lot.

[00:04:06]Good morning. Day two of U-District Street Fair. I'm here. I'm opened up.

[00:04:12]Um it is quite sunny right now. I hope it stays this way for the rest of the day.

[00:04:16]Uh when I came in this morning, things obviously were not in tip-top shape. Um my Some of my walls fell with the wind, of course. That's my fault. I didn't weigh it down properly because I thought, you know, now that I'm in an inline booth, everything should be fine.

[00:04:31]But super easy to put back together.

[00:04:34]It took all of like 10 minutes.

[00:04:36]However, I did step in dog so I had to clean that, which is like annoying. Please pick up your dog poop.

[00:04:42]Um we are >> [gasps] >> up and ready to go. We open at 11:00. I think it's like 10:00 something. I am very hungry, and I am here by myself this morning. Yesterday was a little bit of a boring day. It was a very long day cuz we were here at like 7:00 or like 8:00 8:00 to 7:00. Did go get W D F after for dinner. Um I will say that the University District W D F location is probably my least favorite W D F, but I digress. W D F is W D F.

[00:05:07]Um and then we got ice cream for dinner, and then we went home, and then I knocked out. So, overall it was a very chill day. Uh nothing really happened. Nothing exciting happened. It was actually very slow in comparison to like previous U-District Street Fairs and previous Street Fairs that I've done for Seattle or in Seattle. So, um I'm hoping today picks up because yesterday was nothing like how it normally goes, and got me really, really worried. I will say yesterday's numbers I'm also down significantly. We're talking like 60 to 70% from 2024 since I didn't get into this event in 2025. Thank you to my savior, Jackie, who got me a turkey pesto sandwich and this is really bomb ube coconut latte from Bulldog Coffee or Bulldog News.
