Verlan highlights the fascinating irony of a language that rebels against its own rigid rules, turning linguistic chaos into formal dictionary entries. This video captures the frustration of learners who realize that mastering French requires unlearning it just as much as studying it.

Reaction to Paul Taylor - La langue française c'est de la m****🇫🇷Added:
[laughs] I feel like the language speaking is so strong.
[laughs] Hi guys, welcome back again to the channel. It's a beautiful day.
So today we're going to be checking out um something from the Monteress comedy Paul Taylor. I don't want to this actually translate to the French language is basically personally I say the French language is one of the most language I've heard although it sound very lic back but I really just fancy the language so much you know back the going up in in school when they t us French things like bonjour mademoiselle comment ça ça va bien? Merz you. Please sit down, miss/ madam.
Yes! Thank you to all the healthcare workers. You'll see that later. Hello, my name is P. Very happy to be here. I'm not from here, I'm from England. Are there any English people in the room?
[laughs] So happy. I'm really happy. My name is Paul. She said, "I live in France, and to live in France, you have to speak French."
But the French language is [ __ ] complicated because you do things with the French language on purpose to piss off people who are learning French.
OK, we're going to switch words around like that for no reason. Crazy stuff.
No, that's something I didn't know, wow.
I thought it was a synonym for awesome. Yeah, it's great. It's great. That's crazy. No, Paul, you're actually an idiot. Phew, it's you take the word 'ouf' and in fact the word 'ouf' is the word 'fou' but backwards.
[clears throat] [ __ ] off.
[laughs] I don't think but the [ __ ] off I think what he's trying to say is like um I'm going to use a very known um African word where you say things like [clearing throat] and you say um ok they have the same pronunciation different meaning and I think that's what he's trying to emphasize on [laughs] too complicated OK, I didn't know I did n't know the system. I was also told about verlant, in fact the word verlant is the word the reverse, also reversed.
Level unlocked.
I didn't understand. I didn't know how to learn my lines. A friend of mine said to me, "Yeah, Paul, I like your bit. I have an idea for you regarding the staging. Actually, the next time you perform your bit, try not to play it straight out of the ' comassenais' right away. So, I checked online to see if there's something you shouldn't type into Google, and that's the two words together like 'ass'.
[laughs] ' com' [laughs] ' university was' I think the singular and plural.
[laughs] [laughs] So I started to understand that you have to switch words, but it doesn't stop there because there are double 'ver' words that are doubly 'veranis' [laughs] once the 'ver' enters the official dictionary you start the process of 'verlanization' again [grunts] [laughs] The word 'femme' for example, the word 'femme' reversed normally, what is 'meuf' but 'meuf' is in the dictionary now so people say what, it's not a word, it's just sounds that come out of 'f'. It's like an Englishman trying to read the word "femme" (woman) but not knowing how to spell it. Same with the word "arabe" (Arab), same transformation, "arabe" became "be" and entered the dictionary. Now what do the French say? " Terroriste" (terrorist). It's [laughs] funny shitty language.
And what's more, "verlant" (backwards slang) exists with English words. I heard someone in Paris say, "Eh, le cla de SP."
Oh, the black guy went into speed language.
[laughs] Okay, listen, I'm going to stop talking to you with this shitty accent because it's super hard to maintain for 6 minutes.
[applause] Yeah, I'm an [ __ ]. I'm sorry, but I feel obligated to start with a fake shitty accent because you French speakers don't believe me when I say I'm English with this accent because it's true, normally English speakers, when we speak another language, we really speak like balls. We're really there. Yeah. Good evening. Good evening.
How are you? Given the views [laughs] So French speakers don't believe me, and I understand, but I'm really only half English, actually. My mother, [laughs] [laughs] [laughs], I was born there, so I'm really, really without it. It's just that I don't have an accent because I lived in France for five years when I was very little, and when you're very little, you're kind of like a sponge when it comes to accents. So, I don't really have an accent when I speak French, but I make a lot of mistakes because the French language—because even you don't know how to speak it correctly, because I see you French speakers correcting each other.
It's incredible. If the language is complicated for you, for us it's impossible to master 100%. So, I make mistakes when I speak French, but I don't make the same mistakes as you. I make the mistakes English speakers make, and actually, English speaker mistakes without the English accent, it works because I see you French speakers correcting each other. It's incredible. If the language is complicated for you, for us it's impossible to master 100%. So I make mistakes when I speak French, but not the same mistakes as you. I make English-speaking mistakes.
And actually, English-speaking mistakes without an English accent just don't fly. And I realized that French speakers don't actually think I 'm an Englishman who speaks perfect French. They think I'm a Frenchman, but a dumb one.
And people just freeze up in front of me, they make weird faces when I make basic mistakes. Like, I say "une croissant," they'll say, " They don't understand why I look like an idiot." And it annoys me. It really annoys me because I've really tried to make an effort to learn French, and because living in a country when you're very young isn't enough. You have to keep learning and improving. And I decided to study at university in French. And when you do To study in England like that, you have to go for a year to improve in a French-speaking country. Since I'd already lived in France for a while, I wanted to discover something different. So I decided to spend a year improving my French in Quebec.
[laughs] I was warned that it's not the place to improve your [laughs] and I realized very quickly that going to Quebec to improve your French is like going to England to improve your cooking.
We have [applause] the same ingredients, but we do whatever we want with them.
[laughs] And Quebecers do whatever they want with the French language. It took me three months to understand the accent, the expressions, and at the time, to finance my studies, I decided to take a part-time job at Apple in the Apple Stores. And my position at Apple was the manager of angry customers and angry Quebecers. I wasn't at all prepared for that.
First day, I arrive, there A guy arrives, he's angry, I can see in his eyes that he's angry. He comes with an iPod in his hand, he comes to see me and he says "Well, just now, I was lost.
No idea. You there there this thing there there it works Windows because tabarnac I don't have it there there it doesn't work at all fix it right away. OK. [laughs] [laughs] Uh, sorry sir, actually I'm not from here. That's why my French is crap. Uh, sorry.
You saw that I had enchanted them.
How? Well, um the subtitle did not do justice.
Is there a way we can actually be getting translation of this a typical French person? Please help us down there. We need a translate of all of these videos because I am quite certain that we missed a lot of things. Do you understand? And even it's not just us, even the subtitle, the automatic subtitle at some point where like I'm not cut up for this job. [laughs] So, it's very annoying because we I missed a lot. Well, um we really love this comedy because actually what he says we could from the first part that we could understand we could a little bit resonate with that. So, please do well to help us recommend someone who can help us with translation. Yeah, we really need that. Please, please. So, thank you guys for sticking around to this part. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and comment on this video.
See you guys on the next one. For now, remember, bye guys. Sorry for the trans
