So, let's pull into town, unload some stuff, and we're wearing out our equipment. We got a bunch of old equipment.

[00:02:14]So, we've had it 10 or more years, and it's wearing out on us. And the biggest problem is we move it.

[00:02:23]We drag it in and out of stock trailers, move it to where we're branding or to where our calves are this spring or that spring, and it's just getting frustrating. So, we're going to go look for a new calf table, go to IFA, see what they've got, try to upgrade little equipment and see if we just can't keep keep this business rolling. You tear stuff up. [00:04:14]And so it's really hard to compare prices because for one, he's not black and he's not not the most finished, sexiest looking steer. So it's hard to compare top numbers. I'm really curious what he goes for.

[00:13:37]>> All right, you just watched these sell in the ring and I tried to film just some odds and ends. Just different stuff so you can get a feel for what the market is. Different colors, different weights, different sizes, how old they are, how fleshy they are. There's a lot of variables and it's really hard to say if a number is necessarily good or bad because because it all depends on if she was sick, if if they were bred there.

[00:14:04]There's a lot going on. The steer, what did you guys figure that steer weight? I should have videoed loading this morning, but that daylight Doug helped me and it was a wreck for a minute, but we got him. had plans of keeping him and feeding him out and some people backed out. So he was $775 and he sold for 356.

[00:14:30]After charges we made 266972.

[00:14:36]So, one one silver Charlay steer uh 775 today's market in Cedar City 2600 and we'll round up to $70.

[00:14:49]So, I don't know if that is comparable to where you guys live or not. The young young heer that sloughed her calf sick.

[00:14:57]She weighed $850, but you could tell she didn't look good. People weren't that interested in her. She got a buck 80, $1,480.

[00:15:07]So, big difference there. We'll talk more about these numbers when we get home cuz there's some different things we want to touch up on for a minute, but we've got to go do some shopping.

[00:15:18]So, we'll get out of the big city of Cedar, get out of this windy hole, get home, and we'll sit down at a table and kind of talk about these a little bit and wrap this up there. This seems kind of weird, but I I just kind of want to be an advocate for the younger generation, the youth growing up, that if if livestock is something you want to do, then you should do it. You should find somebody's backyard that has grass in it. Go buy some doggy. It'll be $1,000. Doggies are I mean, it's crazy. day olds are a,000 bucks. But but you can feed that thing on your grandma's back lawn all summer long, put some weight on them, go sell them and make some money. If you want to build a family ranch one day, the only way to do it is to get to work. And you know what? If it's one doggy at a time, then eventually you will get there. Me and my friend Kaden visit all the time about doing this. Like this is a little unheard of. My in-laws helped us a lot, but us being able to buy our own farm ground, our own a lotments, and make our own family business is pretty unheard of. A lot of people will take over one that's already established, but building it, it's it's a different ballgame. It's hard to do. So, don't give up. If that's your dream, go for it. Let's talk about this one steer we sold today. One head at 775 lbs. Was he a pretty steer, Dusty?

[00:21:34]>> Yep. was $28, right? So from 70 to 80 we jump 6580 90 7720 8580 2010 was $106. That's as far as we go 2010. I should have printed off one more page.

[00:22:04]It's not as big as everything else, is it? 2010 we go $16. To 2026, we go 3.56.

[00:22:13]And that's probably average. I mean, it's not top of the line classy, but it's not trash either. So, that's a huge jump from $28 to 356.

[00:22:24]Our gain, our differences from 28 to 356 and our fuel cost. We'll see if everything is climbing equally real quick. Okay. Hey, you're going to love this. Listen up, okay? Beef prices from the '7s, all of this is from the '7s to present. Beef today is 12.7 times higher than it was in the '7s. Trucks or vehicles, 27 times higher. Houses, any guess it on this one?

[00:23:03]So gas and beef are equal. Those playing fields are equal. Your housing market is stupid high and trucks are stupid high.

[00:23:14]So that makes sense why everybody still drives old trucks and doesn't have brand new houses.

[00:23:20]If that made you wonder, the house market is stupid expensive. It's no wonder people could afford to live and just flat out be happy because you could go to work and just make a living and get by and be happy. Man, how would that be? You didn't have eight jobs and never slept and side hustles. Side hustle probably wasn't a word back then. So, can a person make money selling beef, selling cattle, raising doggies in your grandma's backyard?

[00:23:49]Well, let's jump back to 2670.

[00:23:58]That's a big number.

[00:24:00]How much do you spend on fuel costs for one doggy? How much do you spend on fuel cost for 100 head, 200 head? 1,000 head.

[00:24:08]Back here in the drought area, we have acres per cows. You lucky guys in the green wetlands, you have cows per acre.

[00:24:17]So, it depends on where you live.

[00:24:18]There's lots of variables. you can probably make way more money back east.

[00:24:23]If I'm just saying, there's probably way more grass and it's a lot easier. It's a lot less work. So, if you live in that area, if you live anywhere, I would recommend it. If you love agriculture, go for it. Just go to work. Just find something. Just be an advocate. Just do what you want to do. Make yourself happy. Your life will never change if you don't make a step forward.

[00:24:48]Okay. What do you guys pay for an AUM?

[00:24:50]An animal unit per month. What do you pay for AUMum?

[00:24:54]$30, $40, $60. What's 12* 30? $360 that it cost you to rent your grandma's backyard for 12 months and her neighbors cuz you only got 6 months out of each backyard.

[00:25:09]So, there's that cost. You had to hire someone to go get your doggy unless you put it in the trunk of your car, which you could haul it back in the trunk, but it's going to be bigger. You've got feed cost, fuel cost, your salt. You got to have salt for them and minerals. That's going to cost. They got out, tore your fence down. You had to rebuild the fence. You had to haul water to them cuz your grandma doesn't have a water spet.

[00:25:32]So, you had to haul water. You have buckets of water. Of the $2,670, did you make 500 bucks? Did you make a,000 bucks? Everybody's numbers are different, but there's money to be made and definitely money to be lost. So, you can lose a lot of money in a hurry. If you want to go broke, just get some cows. You can lose money in a hurry. You can acquire a lot of stuff, a lot of broke down stuff, a lot of equipment that doesn't work, and you'll be smiling about it. You'll sleep good at night.

[00:26:01]Life will be great. This was just kind of a thought process I had of my love for agriculture and just being an advocate. If you guys want to get into agriculture, go for it.

[00:26:12]There's there's lots of people doing it and the cattle numbers are the lowest they've been ever historically long times. So, you guys need to help out with that. Go raise some cattle. Put steaks in your freezer. I got some freezers with steaks in them. And then you can share with your family because your family's going to want them anyways. So, uh, let me know in the comments.
