Madlanga Commission | Lesetja Senona set to take stand
Added:Onto the Mdlanga Commission now, where the suspended KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head, General Lesetja Senona, is expected to take the stand once again at the commission in Pretoria this morning.
Senona's testimony was previously postponed after his legal counsel took ill, uh prompting the commission to reschedule his appearance. The suspected KZN suspended uh KZN Hawks head is expected to answer questions relating to that 2021 Port Shepstone drugs theft of 541 kg of cocaine with a street value of approximately 200 million rand that was stolen from the Hawks premises. SABC News reporter Karyn Maughan has the latest update on this.
>> Good morning to you, Sakina, and to the viewers at home. We certainly expect Major General Lesetja Senona to have plenty more questions to answer to. When he previously came to the commission, the commission had not had the advancements that it made on the Port Shepstone theft of 541 kg of cocaine through various different role or key role players, let's put it that way, that give us a different picture as to what could have been taking place there against that overall backdrop, or rather allegation, that this was allegedly all about a design. There's a several key role players that make quite interesting allegations that leave Senona with a lot of questions to answer before the Mdlanga Commission. In the main, some of those uh questions include the facts that you have two witnesses at the very least that are quite material to what was taking place at the KZN Hawks at the time. That is Warrant Officer Callus Ande and Brigadier Nieuwoudt, who are stating under oath that at the time of this particular incident that it was known by the KZN Hawks management who the suspects were behind the theft of that 541 kg of cocaine. Of course, that raises a lot of questions as to whether or not all of the subsequent actions taken by the management after that particular theft had anything to do with actually trying to solve this particular bizarre incident or was it a means to try and allegedly cover up an incident that was allegedly by design because if they already knew who the suspects were, then it makes no sense for them to have conducted all of those polygraph tests and shifted [snorts] Car Sandra from that particular Senate unit to an administrative role within the Hawks if there was no merit to any of the allegations against him. Again, another important fact for Lieutenant General Sitole to answer to is the suspicion that was raised by Brigadier Nyuci that this particular facility or storage facility and its strong rooms could only be opened by key that was left in the possession of Major General Lesetja Senona. The implication there is that possibly what took place there or what was left behind after the theft could have been allegedly staged because it is understood that only the keys could unlock those particular rooms. We'll find out at 9:30 what Major General Lesetja Senona has to say since the commission has made much advancements on this particular bizarre and mysterious Port Shepstone theft.
