This video examines how political connections can enable wealthy individuals to develop protected natural areas, as demonstrated by the controversy surrounding Ivanka Trump's luxury resort project on Sesan Island in Albania, where developers received tax-free 99-year leases on state property and exemptions from environmental regulations, sparking protests from local communities and conservation groups concerned about habitat destruction and unequal treatment under environmental laws.

They got a new place to run本站添加:
So, apparently Donald Trump's got yet another place he can run away to, and this time it's Albania. What's going on?
Well, let me show you guys. Uh, protests in Albania over Jared Kushner. So, that's the son-in-law, right? Married to Ivanka Trump. Backed luxury resort. Wow, fantastic. Conservation groups say work has begun in protected coaster area while prime minister insists project will bring jobs and investment. Where have we heard that one before? And basically, there's this protest. I think it's going on for a couple of days now and uh people are against this thing.
Let me show you guys a little bit of footage of this stuff. This has been um all over the news there. They're calling it the flamingo protest. I think you can see here revolution flamingo. The basic gist of it is that this is protected land essentially like a national park kind of thing, right? And they're holding up flamingos. It's the same way that um Trump wants to basically take over the national parks in USA, drill for more oil, otherwise, you know, uh do more resorts and casinos and golf courses and such. And you can see right there, there's a picture of it, 1.4 billion. Um I I think that's Yeah, I think that's euro because I've heard different uh projections on this in terms of four billion, but basically it's billions of dollars and and people are out protesting. Uh let me show you guys some more of the protests. Part of it is the way it was done. I guess people in the area woke up one day and suddenly there's bulldozers outside and you know concrete walls and barbwire that kind of stuff and you're like what is going on? And then they rolled back a lot of um how can I say environmental protections uh because they the the rules like hey and this is corrupt basically hey if you build a fivestar resort then suddenly there's no rules for you right. Uh listen to what a local person has to say here.
>> Many even want the project to be cancelled altogether.
>> We are protesting against the intervention that has been carried out in Zeneck. The machinery should be removed. Nature should be left free and the area should be restored to its previous condition.
>> Put on barb wire. Albia Albia >> and it's actually um multiple locations of protest it appears. This is Ivanka Trump then defending her island.
>> I'm working on an incredible project with my husband in the Mediterranean.
It's it's massive in scale.
>> I think that's an understatement. Can you explain it? There's no power on this island. You're building you're building everything from scratch. Correct. Well, it's an unbelievable, beautiful 1,400 hectare private island in the middle of the Mediterranean. We were on a friend's boat and we stopped for a swim.
Effectively, that's how we found it. We swam to the islands. We went on a hike barefoot all the way up to the top and we were just captivated and it stayed with us ever since and over the course of of many years. And I and I wonder like just my first reaction is are you like scoping around where you can escape after the presidency? Is that is that what we're talking about here? Like hey, we're looking for an island. Oh, we just happen to find this one. It's Albania and um you know there's no power. So they're going to have to do a lot of things with this and that's why this is a natural habitat you know concern.
Environmentalists obviously are concerned about this. Uh the Trumps then are just looking for well but but don't you want Trump Resorts? Don't you want Trump's name over everything? then obviously not everyone necessarily does.
>> Whereas we developed the opportunity to help realize its potential and and transform it but with a lot of restraint and care because the land is so beautiful that really the architecture has to be fully integrated into it almost rise from it. You know it's not even a business for me despite the scale of it. We not only the island, but we have five miles of beachfront directly across from the island, this beautiful peninsula with a lagoon on one side, the ocean on the other. I >> I'm not even sure what that means. It's not even a business, and we're talking about billions of of dollars here. And uh and he she even describes it on a massive scale. I mean, clearly there's money involved with this stuff. And to claim that it's not a business is kind of ridiculous.
>> Um beautiful white sand beaches. For me, this is it feels more like a challenge than anything else. It's the the culmination of all of my experience in real estate, all of my travel, a lot of reflection on how I want to live, how I think people increasingly are wanting to live and trying to really build something that's a tangible manifestation of that that requires a lot of vision.
I don't know like the way she talks like you know a tangible manif manifestation of how they want to live. So I guess in your mind epste island's not enough you want to have Trump island. I mean seriously they're talking about doing an island here right and I guess that's a manifestation of how they want to live.
>> Um the collaboration of some of the greatest masters that exist. So, I was just um I was just there walking the land. Um really just trying to sort of be with it and experience it alongside some of the greatest living architects of our time. Like true masters of their craft, people with integrity so absolute like there will be no compromise.
>> No compromise. Great. Uh while she's doing that, right, while she's promoting her island, these are what locals are saying. So this idea that this is some, you know, benign peaceful thing is is absurd, right? And you can see people are protesting. Uh then even Jared's talking about he was on vacation the summer 2021. So I guess where oh on a Rothschild's boat of all things that's his own words. You actually can see it right there. Okay, great. We spent a couple days in Albania and you can actually see people protesting. Um here's a little bit more. This got testy over on CNN.
>> Yeah, go ahead.
>> Let me finish. What is this? What's going on? Let me finish.
>> The project is not yet there.
>> The environmental impact is being worked.
>> You understand? And let me finish.
>> And yeah, go ahead.
>> Let me finish. What is this? What's your go? Let me finish.
>> Uh don't there's no need to be disrespectful. I'm asking you. Go ahead, Prime Minister. Finish your thought.
>> So that's how they're defending the island. Um this is a report on it. It says free island 4 billion resort.
Kushner pays nothing. Okay, Albania pays everything. Here's what happened in Albania. Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump firm, Affinity Partners are getting Albania's only island, state property handed to them on a 99-year lease tax-free with governmentbuilt infrastructure, right? So, I can see how people are protesting not only just the the land itself, it's like, why are my tax dollars going to the Trumps?
Basically, they pay nothing for the land. The 4 billion project includes a luxury resort on Sesan Island and a second development at Zvenic, a protected wetland coastline. The land near uh Zevenic was quietly purchased by Qatari building our partners. Affinity provides the name Gulf Capital funds it.
PM Rama amid growing protest, quote, there is no chance that investment will stop as long as I am here. Albanians call it Trump Island. Yes, you heard that correctly. Trump Island. The deal was fasttracked days after Trump won reelection. Uh you can actually see some pictures of the protest. Um says Ivanka Trump plans a luxury resort on a protected beach. Locals and conservationists aren't thrilled. Uh this is um some pictures of the area. So it actually is really pretty, but you probably should be, you know, protective of it. Again, wildlife live there and and once you destroy it and puts Trump names on it, you know, it changes forever as you already know. And local people are paying for it. And this is what people were saying that just like woke up one day there's barb wire fences and such like that. Uh here's another protest sign. Ivanka Ivanka keep your hands away from Narai. And here's more of the protest. Uh there's a quote here.
I'll read it. You can hear what it says.
Controversial change to nature laws.
Part of the backlash in Albania surrounds a change to the country's nature laws to permit luxury resort construction within environmentally protected areas implemented in 2024. So basically right when Trump was elected here uh the law now exempts structures of excellence five stars or more and whatever that means right structures of excellence. So that's why then Ivanka is going on and on about oh we got these awesome architects whatever right? So I guess if you build a quote structure of excellence, no laws for you. Um the usually the fact that rich people can get away with what they want to do something that you hide under the kind of language of public interest.
Extraordinary situations and so on.
Actually writing in the law that luxury resorts are exempt is quite remarkable.
Meaning it's crazy, right? Or ludicrous or ridiculous, however you want to say it. Uh this is one of the most brutal legislative texts I've seen environmental uh career in environmental field in my career, right? Um and the person are saying, you know, it's already booked because there's animals there. You can see protesters all around the fence and um here's a quote from a protester. Uh the project is quite destructive since it's actually planned to be built within a protected area within a protected landscape which is actually one of the most intact wetlands in the Mediterranean. Uh as we speak now there is no permissions publicly available. There is also a point to where um who is the name of the people actually developing said thing. This is from Barren. It says what we know about Trump relatives project in Albania. And let me read a quote here and you guys get a sense of why it's a bit questionable. The investment on Sesan Island at 1.6 billion while Rama recently referred to a 4 billion euro project in uh Zervenex. So I guess when you add those up together maybe over five depending on how you want to calculate the numbers here. Um Affinity Partners referred AFP's questions to a PR agency. Okay. which provided a statement attributed to Asher Abbisera, chairman of the Saison Real Estate uh development, a company described as managing the project with a quote variety of investors, you know, whatever that means. Uh we're excited about the opportunity to create a world-class destination and make one of the largest private investments in the region's history. Okay. However, AFP has not been able to find any legal trace of a company with that name. So that's a bit shady there. There's always shady stuff going on with the Trump people and I just want to let you guys know what what's going on. But at the moment it does seem indeed like there are want to build uh Trump Island and is this where Trump plans his exit? I was thinking more Argentina but you never know. Maybe Albania is their their goal here. So that's my thoughts on this. I' like to hear yours and I'll catch you all in the next
