Passing Chords in Guitar

Um I would like to welcome you again to another your time that I want to teach you some sort of passing chords and uh we are going to be looking forward on the uh type one uh passing chords that we call them diminished chords. And how are we going to be using these diminished chords to play guitar? uh if you want to make transition from point one to point B remember we have this the so-called numbering system for example let's take an example in the key of A this one the key of A so we have the numbering system in A and this is one it's called A major number two this one it's called B minor number three C sharp minor then we have number four this one it's called D major then we have number five this one. It's called E major. Then we have F sharp minor. Then G sharp diminished. Then back to one again or eight. This is this is a major. So we have number one.

[00:01:42]Then we have number three.

[00:01:46]Then number four.

[00:01:49]Then number five.

[00:01:52]Then number six, then number seven, then number eight. So these are [music] the chords. So we have number one.

[00:02:20][music] Okay. So, the most interesting part of this is how are you going to be making the diminished chords as the passing chords. This is the most interesting part of this. Okay. So if this is number one then if this is number one and this is number two [music] and this is number three and this is number four I mean number four this one and you have number five here then you have number six then number seven then number eight these are the basic numbering system that everyone should know. So from number one before you hit number two if A is number one then number two should be B minor.

[00:03:10]Now between A and B minor between A and B we have the chord in I mean we have we have the the note in between and we call it A sharp. So if you want to to to shift from A to B, you must pass through this temporary station called A sharp.

[00:03:30]So within the A sharp is where now you can make a diminished chord. And that is going to be used as a passing chord.

[00:03:36]See? See this one? This is number one.

[00:03:39]Then you have this one. Oh, it's called A sharp diminished. See how I'm holding it by the way. So you have the finger number one being placed on the string number four. This one, the second fret.

[00:03:54]Then you have the finger number two being placed on the string number two.

[00:03:58]This is the second fret. Then you have this one. It's a finger number three being placed on the string number three.

[00:04:04]This is the third fret. Then you have the finger number four. It is being pressed in the string number one. And this is the I mean string number one, fret number three. Okay. So once if if you strum this chord, it's going to sound like this. [music] You hear this? It's called a sharp diminished seven chord. This one, [music] it's a passing chord. You have number one, it's a [music] major. Then you have this passing chord. Then you go for number two.

[00:04:35]Okay? So this a diminished seven chord.

[00:04:40]It is been used as a passing chord, a temporary station that you'll pass before you go to the number two chord or before you go to the number four chord.

[00:04:50]For example, one [music] passing chord, then you have number two, then you have major two chord, then you go to number five. Someone is not understood here.

[00:05:03]Okay. So, this is what I'm doing. I'm trying to use number one. Then I'm trying to make a passing chord.

[00:05:14]Then you know that number two it's obvious the B minor chord. So you make major of the B minor chord instead of playing this minor chord.

We are trying to dig out what passing code may be used if you want to play from number one to number two station in the numbering system.

[00:06:06]Remember, remember we have um the so-called numbering system that or that joins the chords from number one to number seven. So you have number one, you have number two, you have number three, number four, number five, number six, number seven and back to eight. In simple language, these are what we call.

We have the chord in between between between number one that's a major and number two that's B minor. In between we have the passing chord. So what type of passing chord are we going to be using? Okay, that passing chord will be the key that is found between the A and B. And guess what?

[00:07:22]It's going to be the B flat or A sharp.

[00:07:24]That is the note that is found between the A and B. So that A sharp you are going now to make it do I mean I mean diminished seven chord. So when it becomes diminished seven chord is where now it can be useful to dissolve I mean to resolve the chord from number one to number two. For example, if this is number one, then you'll have to play the A sharp diminished seven chord. This one, [music] this one, it's called A sharp diminished seven chord. [music] I showed you this.

[00:07:55]This chord, it's called A sharp dim.

[00:07:58]This is number one. Then you have A sharp diminished seven chord. Then you go for number two. For number two or number four, this is number two or number two or number four. one then you have number two then you have number three 2 then one.

[00:08:21][music] So we are trying to see which chord can it connect between number one and number two. So if this is number one then number two should be this one. This one is the so-called A sharp diminished seven chord or B flat diminished uh B flat diminished seven. This one.

[singing] [music] you hear la when it sounds like this it is like it is suggesting that you shift to the next chord and that's why it's called diminished code I mean it's called a passing code it's a passing code because it's a temporary station that you should pass before you go to the next session that's how we define the passing codes so passing codes are just codes that you just pass by before you hit the next session to the target okay so it's one Then a sharp diminished seven. Then [music] this one is B minor. Then you may major the B minor as a passing chord going to number five.
