I am building a super strange log cabin addition in rural Alaska

[00:01:55]Yeah. So, all these boards I just milled them. We had a big good standing tree down by uh our summer sheet pin and so I >> I cut it down today and milled up most of it.

[00:03:08]All righty. Well, I got all the boards up and uh yeah, I'm just squaring them off and putting them down here.

[00:03:27]But yeah, so I after this I'm going to start putting down the the zero logs on the side to actually start the log wall. And that's going to be kind of a kind of a pain just because it's going to have to be very specific.

[00:04:16]I like that. I like I went ahead and I put the first uh log down here.

[00:05:08]>> I ended up putting this timber down here. I went and milled it specifically.

[00:05:14]I I ran out of uh memory on the SD card and I had to go and uh adjust some things.

[00:05:22]But now I'm going to be doing this other side.

[00:05:31]Same thing. I got to go mill a timber to sit flush with this top piece.

[00:05:44]Um, one thing I kind of didn't take into consideration is once this is flush, I still need to in order to come up and start my log wall, I'm actually going to have to make a D log here so that the side of the log is buted up against here. I can't have a round uh H log like this one is. It's going to have to be milled specifically to fit in this gap here, which it shouldn't really be that big of a deal, but I guess that's just the way she goes sometimes, you know. Um yeah, so we just milled this log up and I can't even believe it. It fits.

[00:06:38]First try, it was perfect. It's perfectly level in every way. This doesn't happen very often.

[00:06:48]In fact, I'm having trouble believing that it worked out like this. So, in order to get back to zero, this side was shorter than that side over there.

[00:07:00]And so, we had to mill it in a super weird way.

[00:07:04]And uh yeah, it's it's I'm almost speechless.

[00:07:17]So I I guess we're just going to timber lock it down now. Now, uh now that the zero log is in, basically can just start putting in uh actual H logs on the side.

[00:07:36]Just got to [ __ ] it up into this little crack here.

[00:07:41]We got a huge bag of wool so I don't have to go and get a bunch of moss.

[00:07:51]And I got some beavers for dinner.

[00:07:59]Yeah, I guess I'm going to timber lock this thing down and start milling the other ones.

[00:11:55]So, I uh I messed up a little bit and I the D-Log that I cut to fit in this spot here.

[00:12:03]Well, it was I was just really tired and I I didn't mill it. I didn't pair up a sister log for it.

[00:12:13]So, I'm going to use the second half of this log. You see, I got this is actually one whole log here. But I know I need to fill this gap with something.

[00:12:32]So, I'm probably going to have to go back to the mill maybe and I don't know. I'm going to have to figure out something. All right. So, I got this replacement piece.

[00:12:46]Uh I just went ahead and did it freehand mil it with the chainsaw, which is wasn't terribly hard, but it was harder than expected.

[00:13:05]Just going to see if this thing fits in here properly.

[00:14:09]Yeah, you know, sometimes you just kind of got to overlook some of the little tiny discrepancies that arise while you're building these kinds of structures. I uh I don't know if that's the right thing to do, but I got to keep going on and just make it as good as I can.

[00:14:36]I've never built a button pass cabin like this with the H logs and whatnot, so it's been kind of a weird little learning curve.

[00:14:45]But doing this first layer here is I think it's uh showing me how it needs to go forward basically.

[00:15:07]>> All right. Well, the first layer, this is where the log wall will actually start kind of taking shape.

[00:15:15]Um, I've got some bits and ends that I think I'm kind of debating whether or not I want to use uh my big really big logs that I have at the bottom and then gradually get smaller as I go up, which saying it out loud makes a little bit more sense, I think.

[00:15:44]But um yeah, I've got a big honker down there.

[00:15:55]This one's pretty big. It doesn't really look very big from this angle on the camera, but she's definitely probably like 200 lb at least.
