This video powerfully demonstrates that sustainable recovery stems from community-based support and personal agency rather than punitive exclusion. It serves as a vital case study for shifting the social perspective on addiction from a moral failing to a treatable health crisis.

Added:Yes, everyone, we're all good.
A big shout-out to everyone out there who likes, shares, comments, and subscribes to this channel.
Twisted Manchester on the canal.
Plus me bearings, I went to park.
Hope they're open. It was shocking show what to find in the car park and literally walking all over the gaff. It's like a maze.
But, yeah.
We'll find out where he is now.
I'm actually going to meet him. The table has been to court.
And he's out. He's there.
Is that his ban lifted?
This is great news.
So, he can just like he's free to walk around Manchester. He's being banned. He did get a 2-year ban.
But, what he's He's what now? He's 13 months clean.
He's done two 10k runs.
He's done a white collar boxing event, and he's won.
Stopped the guy in the second round.
He's now going into prisons and sharing his experiences So, what he's just He's just doing incredible. But, today you know, we're starting a process in Manchester with Saki of getting his teeth done.
Getting all them ones he's got in his mouth pulled out and a new set of bearings put in.
Let's go and see him anyway. Let's catch up with him.
See how he's been.
Yeah, I've never really saw this week before, so just knocked me sideways a little bit.
And he's with his mum today. He's just dragged her all over the gaff, haven't you?
>> [laughter] >> I was just being telling the people here how well you've been doing.
You're going into prisons and everything, aren't you?
>> Of course. Just started the CBOs have dropped now.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Hello, mate. You're okay? So, you've had your community >> Yeah.
>> ban and all that dropped?
>> Yeah.
>> How's that make you feel?
>> Yeah, good.
>> Yeah.
>> I think it might have put some like other other barriers on me doing other stuff, but it's just good.
>> Yeah.
Can you send your phone on silence, please, while we're there having a conversation?
>> mean John.
>> Well, me and John.
So, yeah, man. It's just been selling everyone as well. Like you're getting your teeth done. You've done a couple of 10K runs.
>> Yeah.
>> You know, you've done a boxing White Collar.
>> Three Peaks.
>> Three Peaks, you've done that as well?
Wow.
But we're in social on a regular basis.
You know.
>> Yeah, fuck you. Andy Burnham Burnham phoned me last night, didn't he?
>> Who?
>> Burnham.
>> Andy Burnham phoned you?
>> Yeah, saying look after money for me.
>> [laughter] >> What's your take on these rough sleepers, though? It's like he's the his face >> Do you know what it is? They're putting them into these things. They're not rough sleepers. They don't They need to be taught like I got taught to do. They need to be taught about the disease of addiction.
>> Yeah.
>> That's the job. Like I could be told off the police now, right? You need to be at probation. So, I'm on my way to probation.
>> Yeah.
>> You knowing that if I don't turn up to probation, I'm going jail. But as soon as someone offers me fucking a drink or a fucking drug, do you know what I mean?
I'm taking that with all still all intentions of going to the probation.
Once I've had that fucking thing, you know, then my thoughts change and all I'm fucking concerned about is where I'm getting drink and drugs from. Until the point of 10:05 comes and I think, "Fuck it, I've missed probation." And then that just gives me That gives me the green light and just to fucking cause havoc.
>> [laughter] >> I'm going jail anyway.
>> Yeah, that's the most important thing.
>> Yeah.
>> Is yeah is getting and scoring and using and boozing and it.
>> Yeah, and then just thinking, "Fuck it."
And then then in your head you're already thinking >> Well, I've fucked up anyway.
>> Yeah, who's going to Who am I going to be locked up with when I have any drugs inside?
>> Yeah, yeah, that's all it is.
>> it's all about who's >> I think that's what it is. So, I think they put him into I think they need to prioritize these like hostels that they put them in. They need to split them up.
Who wants to get Who Who's Who wants some sort of recovery? Who's not asked?
Do you know what I mean? Cuz >> Well, there's plenty of people out here like that just don't care. They're not interested. They've got no like >> I know, but they're saying you get a bed for the night, but they put them in with other people, and all they're doing is creating healthy fucking addicts really, cuz they're getting a night night a good night's sleep. Fucking they come out in the morning, they fucking they've had a Do you know what I mean? They're fucking fully fully powered to fucking rob anything they fucking can.
>> Recharged. Anyway, let's get a move on.
>> Yeah, mate.
Baby fucking plan.
>> Yeah. Baby kittens.
There's the policeman, Seamus.
>> Thank you, sir.
Thank you.
>> Police dogs.
>> Oh, oh.
>> So, the police have just pulled you?
>> Done now, yeah.
>> What did he say?
>> Just now, just read now that your CBO order's fucking done now, yeah. So, yeah.
>> What did he say? How was it?
>> Yeah, sound.
>> That's good.
I'm just going to go on a little walk while Seamus goes for a coffee with his mate.
What are they doing this morning anyway?
I've seen a load of tents, new tents.
Now, Andy Burnham, like we said before, is planning to end rough sleeping in the UK.
Should have started here years ago.
Greggs bakery.
I can imagine that used to be quite popular back in the days. Been closed down for years by the local mayor.
Okay, so what do we got going on?
And here, gates open.
Have people actually been living in there? They have a nest.
Anyway, let's move on.
>> I've been home all the time.
>> Oh, you've got a boss on time, lad.
>> I've been home all the time.
>> Where have you been?
>> Home, mate.
Home, mate.
>> Oh, have you?
>> Yeah.
>> People are messing us up there.
You've got a few tents plotted up around here.
See you later, mate. Take this out of here.
And he's been in and to go to sleep in.
But then you've got this over here, which is absolutely disgrace.
>> [bell] >> This is where the the attack on Cozzi happened, I believe.
State of this. Wow.
What nice show.
The closer you get, the more it stinks.
This is bad luck.
Oh, and if anyone can sleep here, it's beyond me.
Then you got all the scents over the road.
It's crazy.
You got to see here as well as that because he's wanted this.
Now he's put a shift in.
He's been told that there's a new way of living.
He's been shown it.
And he's grabbed it with both hands.
Now he's full of love and it's not That's great.
And as they say in the NA literature, you know, we'll carry the addict until he can carry himself.
So that's why I don't just like enabling, so to speak.
Or just empower him to do his own thing.
Because I do believe it's important that you're out there, you take responsibility, you become accountable.
You learn to live life on life's terms, pay bills, manage your roof over your head. And that's what done. That's what he's done.
And this promise he said a month ago of getting his teeth done. That wasn't sort of That wasn't a motive for him to change because no You're not changing. I don't know what you're saying. You're not getting anywhere.
No one's stopping you when you're using and you're in the grip.
But it's nice that he's got that He's got clean.
And he's got the opportunity to to have some life-changing surgery cuz that's what he needs, surgery. And he's good. So, let's go and catch up with him.
So, I think we'll uh walk into the gardens and see what's what there.
I thought he was taking a swing at me then with that bag.
He was one of them flying locusts.
Big elbow movie.
Lovely frenzy.
What's his name?
What's his name?

>> No, he's he's seven.
>> Hello.
There you go, fella.
>> He's just with men, he's a bit bit jumpy.
I think it's cuz I'm gay and he doesn't really see a lot of a lot of men.
>> That's okay.
I'm not gay, mate. So, unless you want me to be.
>> He'll love you even more than that. He love He loves them actually, man.
>> He loves them actually, man.
>> [laughter] >> Nice to meet you.

I can hear it. Where is it?
Is it coming from this way?
Yeah.
No one knows the streets of Manchester better than yourself.
>> Yeah.
>> So, what's what's the daily routine and >> Well, this will be it. Now, you wake up, you have your morning fucking whatever you save from last night or you manage to get in the morning, go and get your shit. Do you know what I mean?
